Full-time: Bochum 1-1 Bremen

A late Niklas Stark goal broke Bochum hearts as they drew 1-1 with Werder Bremen in their opening game of 2024. Patrick Osterhage opened the scoring shortly after the hour mark with a stunning strike, and it looked as though they would pick up all three points. However, Stark's effort, which deflected off Osterhage on its way to hitting the back of the net via the crossbar, snatched a share of the spoils for his side. Bochum remain 14th in the table, one place below Bremen in the table on goal difference.

What a strike!

It felt like something special would be needed to break the deadlock, and Osterhage delivers! He picks up the ball around 25 yards from goal, takes a couple of touches and fires a stunning strike into the top corner and beyond Zetterer's desperate dive. Bochum are ahead!

Bochum - the season so far

Despite going winless through the first nine matches of the campaign, Thomas Letsch's Bochum are level on points with 13th-placed Bremen, albeit with an inferior goal difference (-15 to -7). They've picked up 10 of their 16 points at the Vonovia Ruhrstadion, including two of their three wins so far this term. Takuma Asano is the Ruhr outfit's leading scorer with five goals, but the Japan forward will miss the restart on Asian Cup duty.

Bremen - the season so far

Werder lost six of their first eight matches of the season, before stringing together two three-game unbeaten runs either side of back-to-back defeats to pacesetters Leverkusen and third-placed VfB Stuttgart. The Green-Whites - aided and abetted by the seven goals of Marvin Ducksch - have 16 points from as many games, giving them a six-point buffer on the bottom three. However, two points from seven away games is the worst return in the division ahead of Matchday 17.
