Watch: Edin Terzic unhappy with result

Same, same

As was the case in April, these two teams share two goals between them and take a point. Bochum's season is up and running after a crushing defeat to Stuttgart last weekend, while Dortmund will probably be unhappy with just a point from this trip, though on the balance of play, they can actually count themselves quite fortunate to have got even that.

Too little, too late

Bynoe-Gittens gets into a dangerous position, but his shot is into the side-netting - too little, too late for Dortmund.

If the deadlock is to be broken, it will be in the five minutes of stoppage time.

Ball Recovery Time

information
Ball Recovery Time
Ball Recovery Time gives the time in seconds in which it takes a team to win back the ball following a loss of possession. It also allows conclusions to be drawn about a team's style of play. Only time when the ball is in play is counted (i.e. no breaks in play such as for goal-kicks, throw-ins etc).

Post struck again!

Osterhage's shot takes a deflection and the fingertips of Kobel take the ball against the right-hand post. Bochum have found their second wind and are pushing for a winner.
79'

Double change

In a bid to prevent this game from ending 1-1 like it did in April, Dortmund coach Edin Terzic is poised to take a final attacking throw of the dice with Bynoe-Gittens and Moukoko coming on for the final 10 minutes.
79'

Bero blazes over

That would have been a fine way to make your Bundesliga entrance, but Bero's effort flies just over the crossbar.
69'

Kobel to the rescue

That was another remarkable save from Kobel! Stöger's shot takes a deflection and appears to be looping into the top corner, but the Swiss custodian stretches every sinew to touch the ball over the crossbar.
66'

Even affair

Dortmund have caught up in the shooting stakes and it's now a very even game, as is reflected in the scoreline. Incidentally, the xG of both goals was just 3.2% - both very unlikely strikes, but if you don't shoot, you don't score.

Nmecha again!

That's three shots in a matter of minutes for Nmecha, whose latest shot grazes the outside of the post. Dortmund are certainly in the ascendency now.

Transformed

That goal has transformed Dortmund, who now have a spring in their step. Nmecha meets a cross and turns it just wide.

Malen levels!

The first chance of the second half for Dortmund, and it's the equaliser! Julian Brandt lays the ball off 25 yards from goal and Malen picks his spot, low into the bottom left-hand corner.

Wittek limps off

An enforced change for Bochum early in this second half, with a limping Wittek leaving and being replaced by Danilo Soares, the man whose position he has taken recently.

Terzic's test

Bochum are good value for their half-time lead, and could arguably have been more goals to the good. It's up to Dortmund coach Edin Terzic now to find the right words to get Dortmund firing on more cylinders in the second half.

Dortmund will probably be happy to hear the half-time whistle, the way things are going. Passlack has Bochum's next opportunity, but he scuffs his shot wide.

Crossbar!

Close to a second again for Dortmund, with Hofmann's glancing header striking the top of the crossbar!

Much ado about little

Dortmund are putting plenty of passes together, but so far they are not getting into any dangerous situations. Bochum, on the other hand, are doing far more from much less.

Bochum lead!

A rocket from Stöger puts Bochum in front! It was a simple build-up starting from Riemann's punt which was laid off by Wittek, and I don't think anybody expected Stöger to strike from such a tight angle, but he's fired it into the far corner!

Morey's agony over?

Mateu Morey is in Dortmund’s matchday squad for the first time since 1 May 2021. That’s a gap of 847 days, during which he has been beset by knee problems.

Lucky 7?

Seven may be a lucky number to some, so what can be made of there being seven Bochum players in the starting XI today who also started the 1-1 draw back in April?

First for Felix

Felix Nmecha makes his first start for Dortmund, replacing Marco Reus in one of three changes compared to the opening weekend of the season. Nico Schlotterbeck and Marius Wolf are also in from the get-go today.

Bero's Bundesliga bow

Matus Bero makes his Bochum Bundesliga debut, replacing Christopher Antwi-Adjei in the starting XI – the only change compared to the 5-0 defeat to Stuttgart.

Dortmund starting XI:

Kobel - Wolf, N. Schlotterbeck, Hummels, Bensebaini - Sabitzer, Can (c), - Malen, Nmecha, Brandt - Haller

Dortmund subs:

Meyer, Morey, Süle, Özcan, Hazard, Reus, Bynoe-Gittens, Moukoko, Adeyemi

Bochum starting XI:

Riemann – Masovic, Ordets, Bernardo – Asano, Passlack, Losilla (c), Stöger, Wittek, Bero – Hofmann

Bochum subs:

Thiede, Soares, Loosli, Osterhage, Broschinski, Gamboa, Schlotterbeck, Daschner, Antwi-Adjei

Terzic seeking revenge

“We’ve got a score to settle,” said Edin Terzic on the eve of Dortmund’s short trip to Bochum. “Many a side have tripped up here; we’re ready, no matter how heated or intense it will be.”

Bad memories

Dortmund will not want to think back to their last trip to Bochum. The 1-1 draw on Matchday 30 saw them lose top spot to Bayern with four games to go. Though they did return to the summit until the final moments of the final day of the season, it will nevertheless be remembered as an opportunity wasted.

After you...

Leipzig's 5-1 win over Stuttgart on Friday night has got last season's third-placed team up and running in style - can Dortmund restore the three-point gap between the two title candidates? Press play to see how Leipzig responded to their opening day defeat to Bayer Leverkusen.

Bochum's backs to the wall

It has not been the start to the season Bochum would have wished for. Eliminated from the DFB Cup by 3. Liga's Arminia Bielefeld, Thomas Letsch's team fell to a chastening 5-0 defeat to VfB Stuttgart on Bundesliga Matchday 1 - hardly the run of results to spark confidence ahead of meeting last season's runners-up, but then this is a derby!

One in 11

While their head coach has yet to taste victory over Dortmund, Bochum have only experienced that once in the last 11 meetings - in 2021/22. The last two games at the Vonovia Ruhrstadion have ended 1-1, though.

Birthday boy

Can Thomas Letsch celebrate his birthday today with a gift he has never had before - a win over Borussia Dortmund. He has faced them three times as a coach, drawing last time out in April, but losing 2-1 and 3-0 in his previous two meetings.

Bochum team news

Keven Schlotterbeck could go straight into the Bochum team, after returning to the club on a second successive season-long loan from Freiburg. Bernardo could be the man to make way at the back. Takuma Asano may also be sacrificed in attack, in favour of an extra midfielder in the form of Patrick Osterhage.

Dortmund team news

Marco Reus started the win over Cologne, but the fit-again Karim Adeyemi - a second-half substitute on Matchday 1 - is expected to start at the former Dortmund captain's expense. Despite impressing off the bench in that game, Germany midfielder Felix Nmecha will likely start among the substitutes once more.

Dortmund the form team

Edin Terzic's side are nine games unbeaten in the league (W6, D3) – the best current run in the Bundesliga – and have earned a division-best 49 of a possible 60 points in 2023 (W15, D4, L1). Good luck breaking the streak, Bochum!

Watch: Bochum 1-1 Dortmund - previous meeting

Bochum haven't won at home to Dortmund since March 2007, but they did take a point from last season's corresponding fixture. And not just any old point. VfL went on to secure a second season of Bundesliga football, while BVB missed out on the title on goal difference.

'Little Revierderby'

Two Ruhr district clubs, only 15 miles apart, there's added spice to the occasion. It's not the Revierderby - that tag's reserved for meetings between Dortmund and relegated Schalke - but it's still a derby. So that means local bragging rights are very much up for grabs!
