Full-time: Freiburg 1-3 Stuttgart

The visitors pick up all three points away at Freiburg. They were quick out of the blocks, scoring twice within the first 10 minutes courtesy of Deniz Undav and Chris Führich, while Mervin Röhl's early red card only boosted their chances of victory. Shortly before the break, Lukas Kübler gave the hosts hope, but Maximilian Mittelstädt lovely second-half finish secured the win.

Mittelstädt off the mark!

That should be that for Stuttgart, who restore their two-goal advantage. Mittelstädt is the goalscorer, netting his first goal for the club since his summer move from Hertha Berlin with a close-range finish.

Half-time: Freiburg 1-2 Stuttgart

Stuttgart enter the break one goal in front, but Lukas Kübler's late strike has given the home team something to build on. Sebastian Hoeneß's team started fantastically, as Deniz Undav and Chris Führich found the back of the net within the opening 10 minutes, while Mervin Röhl's red card for a poor tackle on Maximilian Mittelstädt further boosted their chances. Still all to play for after the break.

Bad to worse for Freiburg

It was already a difficult task for Freiburg to get something out of this match, and it has just been made much harder. The hosts are reduced to 10 men after Röhl is dismissed following a poor challenge on Mittelstädt.

Stuttgart two to the good!

A brilliant start for the away side as they race into a two-goal lead! Undav turns provider, slotting in Führich, who keeps his composure to beat Atubolu. A mountain to climb for Freiburg now.

'Never again is now!'

Under this slogan, German professional football is commemorating the victims of National Socialism on and around 27 January, the date of liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp. This is the 20th year in which the DFL and the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 clubs have been involved in the “day of commemoration in German football” in cooperation with the “!Nie Wieder” (“!Never Again”) initiative. In light of current events, the day of commemoration around Matchdays 19 and 20 (26–28 January and 2–4 February) will focus on the topic of antisemitism.

To help colour blindness

Freiburg have announced that they will not be wearing their usual red home kit for Saturday's game. This is because visitors Stuttgart will be wearing their change green strip. Therefore, to avoid issues for those who struggle with red-green colour blindness, the hosts will play in their white third kit.

Streich's view on Stuttgart

"I haven't thought much about the 5-0 [loss in the reverse fixture] recently, I've just been watching Stuttgart. They just scored five goals again, this time against Leipzig, because they can. And of course that's incredible quality. [Chris] Führich, [Enzo] Millot - they have an enormously good squad. And the players have also developed well, you have to recognise that without being envious. They're doing a very, very good job there. But our players have also developed well and we want to focus on ourselves."

Hoeneß's view on Freiburg

"They've just managed to work their way back up to sixth place, secretly and quietly, at least in my perception - and I don't mean that in a negative or disrespectful way at all - and are in a really good position. They've really earned it and worked for it and that's that. So it's third against sixth and we have a really good game ahead of us."

Double trouble

Stuttgart are the only Bundesliga team so far this season with two players on double figures for goals. Serhou Guirassy has 17, Deniz Undav 12.
