Full-time: Leipzig 3-0 Wolfsburg

All of Leipzig's star men turned up for what became a simple win for the home side to keep them in the top four. Xavi, Olmo and Sesko all put in fine displays, but Rose's still unhappy at full time with a late yellow card on the Dutch midfielder. Wolfsburg, meanwhile, have work to do. They showed periods of fluency in their build-up play to encourage Hasenhuttl, but didn't have enough of an edge to trouble their opponents, making it one win in 13.

Leipzig anger

Xavi has a coming together and is livid to see a yellow card produced for simulation. Rose then gets in the book too for his complaints on the touchline.

Openda! They think it's all over!

The crowd and the bench are on their feet as Openda makes it 3-0 with 22nd goal of the season. It's a similar effort to Olmo as the Belgian brilliantly turns his defender and slots home.

Leipzig should have ended it!

Simakan is able to wander into the Wolfsburg box and his shot is saved. The rebound falls straight to Henrichs who somehow heads wide past an almost open goal.

A good day's work for Sesko

Despite his late miss, Sesko scored the far harder effort to send Leipzig on their way to a likely three points.
75'

What a miss!

A cross from Henrichs on the left-hand side beats everyone and Sesko is all alone to head it in but steers it just over the bar. His next action is to be subbed off by Marco Rose.
68'

Xavi to Sesko = 2-0!

Wolfsburg give Xavi far too much space and he picks out Sesko who takes a touch and steers in a left footed shot in that could wrap up the three points. A brutal blow for the away side who were just starting to look like they could score.

It's another long-ranger, this time from Gerhardt, and it's not far off as the Wolves start showing some confidence.

Chaos in the Wolfsburg box!

Leipzig spring a counter that ends up with Sesko just inside their box on the left. Pervan reads his attempted pass to Olmo well to stop a tap-in, and thankfully no one is there on the follow up.

The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals > xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals > goals).
Wolfsburg actually lead on xG at half-time, showing how unexpected Olmo's goal was.

Half-time: Leipzig 1-0 Wolfsburg

Dani Olmo's brilliant strike was enough to separate the two sides and Ralph Hasenhuttl has a big half-time team talk coming up. His side showed plenty of confidence with the ball, and maybe some substitutions could turn the match on its head.

Rose's thoughts on Wolfsburg

"Wolfsburg have done very well in the two games against us this season. But we know that we should've won both games. It's the same team with similar processes in some areas. In other areas, it's already clear that Ralph Hasenhüttl is trying to introduce a few new things."
camera-photo

Hasenhüttl's thoughts on Leipzig

"It is also unusual after such a long time to meet so many players that you have trained yourself. This shows that the team was very young and willing to learn in the first year of the Bundesliga and that it developed brilliantly."
