Full-time! Frankfurt 1-5 Leverkusen

Leverkusen make it 48 competitive games unbeaten, matching Benfica's run that has stood for 59 years. Even with all the changes, they just had too much for sixth-placed Frankfurt.

Boniface gets away from his man and squares a pass into the Frankfurt area for Frimpong, who's beaten to it by Knauff. There's a murmur of a penalty - the referee is going to check this one...

Knauff sneaks in ahead of Frimpong, but a couple of deflections take the sting out of his attempted shot. Tah gets the last of them, poking the ball narrowly wide of the upright.

Frimpong adds a fourth!

A beautiful team goal that surely puts the game beyond Frankfurt. It starts with Hincapié winning back the ball in his own half, before some brilliant passing through the midfield sets Hofmann free up the left. He bends a superb pass around the last defender for the unmarked Frimpong to slam home from close range.

Half-time! Frankfurt 1-2 Leverkusen

The champions have the lead at the break. Xhaka gave a much-changed Bayer side the lead, before Ekitiké brought Eintracht level. Marmoush was then punished for missing a gilt-edged chance as Schick put away his sixth Bundesliga goal of the season on the stroke of half-time. Leverkusen are going 48 competitive games unbeaten, unless Frankfurt score twice without reply...

Watch: Bayer Neverkusen no more

April was a famous month in the history of Bayer Leverkusen as they put the seal on their first ever Bundesliga title.

Goals guaranteed?

No pair of Bundesliga teams have ever met so often - 77 times - without playing out a goalless draw.

More on those teams

Nkounkou and Chaïbi replace Buta and Knauff in the only changes to Frankfurt's 2-1 loss at Bayern. Leverkusen are without the suspended Alonso, who makes eight changes to the team that won in Rome. Arthur, Hložek and Hofmann are among the players rotated in. Wirtz and Grimaldo are rested altogether.

Frankfurt starting line-up

Trapp (c) - Tuta, Koch, Pacho, Nkounkou - Dina Ebimbe, Götze, Skhiri, Chaïbi - Marmoush, Ekitiké

Frankfurt subs

Grahl, Smolčić, Buta, Max, Larsson, Chandler, Bahoya, Knauff, Ferri

Leverkusen starting line-up

Hrádecký (c) - Kossounou, Andrich, Tapsoba - Tella, Xhaka, Palacios, Arthur - Hofmann, Hložek - Schick

Leverkusen subs

Kovář, Stanišić, Hincapié, Tah, Frimpong, Puerta, Iglesias, Adli Boniface

Will Leverkusen make it 48 unbeaten?

Leverkusen stretched their record unbeaten streak to 47 consecutive fixtures with a 2-0 win away at Roma in midweek and are now looking to make it 32 in the league and 48 in total without loss this season. Standing in their way are Frankfurt who would guarantee a sixth-place finish if they claimed all three points today.

Toppmöller's view on Leverkusen

“We’re expecting this to be a really, really tough task, but we feel like we’re up for it, we know what to do and want to ask plenty of questions of the opposition. The lads are fit, confident and ready for the match. The chance to become the first team to beat Leverkusen in the 2023/24 season is something that’s really spurring us on. It’s a great challenge for a young team like ours to take on the newly crowned German champions."
camera-photo

Alonso's view ahead of Frankfurt

"They have a very good coach and good players. They often play with high tempo and are flexible in their system. It’ll be a hard game. Matches in Frankfurt aren’t easy. Obviously every team wants to be the first to beat us. It gets a bit tougher every week to remain unbeaten. But we obviously want good results in these final three league games as well."
