The ball works its way to Xavi, who threads a sumptuous pass through for Werner. The Leizpig sub rounds Nicolas but the angle looks a little tight. Not so. Werner finds a way to goal with a shot that pings off the inside of the far post and crosses the line.

Just when it seemed Fábio Carvalho was drifting out of this game, the 21-year-old pulls out a wonderful, curling shot towards the far corner from the edge of the area. Moritz Nicolas makes one of those diving saves that look great in a photograph. The game's best moment thus far.

Kouadio Koné making a big difference in the Gladbach midfield. The young French player has been sorely missed by the Foals this season and his return from injury is a huge boon to the hosts.

Starting interest

Benjamin Šeško has two Bundesliga goals from three substitute appearances thus far for Leipzig. It will be interesting to see what the Slovenia international can muster in his first start for the visitors today. There will be plenty of eyes on Liverpool loanee Fábio Carvalho too, with the attacker racking up just 32 top-flight minutes to date.

Benjamin Šeško and Fábio Carvalho are in for their first Die Roten Bullen starts with Emil Forsberg and Yussuf Poulsen dropping to the bench. Dani Olmo and captain Willi Orban continue their recovery from respective knee injuries.

Seoane looking for improvement

Gladbach are currently down in 14th with two points from their first four matches. Their coach says: "Of course we're not happy with two points. The first half in particular in Darmstadt wasn't good. However, I feel a hunger in the team to keep going on the path we've been on after the summer rebuild."

Close call on Čvančara

Gladbach coach Gerardo Seoane confirms that Tomáš Čvančara [pictured], who is the club's leading scorer with three goals in four Bundesliga matches, is a doubt. He says: "He has bad bruising on his thigh. We still have hope that he'll be okay for Saturday, but he's been out for a few days now. We'll have to wait. It'll definitely be a close call."

Rose glad to be back

Leipzig coach Marco Rose coached Gladbach between 2019 and 2021. He says: "I always like coming back to the Borussia Park, because there are so many people there that I still know and am friendly with. It's sure to be an emotional game."

Jordan marked his first Gladbach start with a goal in Darmstadt. The American was preferred to Tomáš Čvančara, who did get on the scoresheet after entering the fray in the second half and missing a penalty. With Jonas Omlin out and Jan Olschowsky a doubt, rookie Moritz Nicolas should continue in goal.

Benjamin Šeško continues to bang at the door, after scoring from the bench against Young Boys. However, Marco Rose has been waxing lyrical about what veteran striker Yussuf Poulsen brings to the team of late, so may wait until next week's rearranged DFB Cup first-round meeting with Wehen Wiesbaden to rotate. Defender Willi Orban and midfielder Dani Olmo are definitely out.
