Full-time: Heidenheim 2-5 Augsburg

Jess Thorup's Augsburg reign got off to an incredible start with the new tactician overseeing a remarkable comeback. Heidenheim netted twice in a minute to soar ahead in front of their passionate home fans. The highly-impressive Phillip Tietz started the fightback with his first Bundesliga goal before further strikes from Mads Pedersen and Ermedin Demirovic turned the game on its head in the first half. A Felix Uduokhai goal and Elvis Rexhbecaj's penalty after the break meant Augsburg scored five away goals for the first time in the Bundesliga and won their first match on the road in over a year.

Thorup's view on Heidenheim

"I have lots of respect for the way Heidenheim have developed in recent years. I am looking forward to finally seeing my players out on the pitch. It will be a difficult match. Heidenheim are a dangerous team and have done very well so far. We need to focus on ourselves though, and we want to win the match on Sunday."

Schmid's view on Augsburg

"They are a very physically strong team, who defend very high, with man-to-man marking at times, and they are very good on the transition. They have a very good squad, have a lot of options and know the Bundesliga well. I think you can't assume after their change of coach that they will continue in the same formation and system. They might change a few players too. Those are things we can't influence, however."

Joint message for peace

The DFL has recommended a minute's silence in the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 to remember all innocent victims and their relatives after the devastating events in the Middle East. With this joint effort, the DFL and DFB would like to send a common message from German football for peace. Football is a sport that brings people together, which is why we all stand up for peaceful coexistence, respect and tolerance. A fortnight ago, the terrorist attack by Hamas on the people of Israel and the State of Israel began. The DFL is shocked by this terrible attack and the events in the region.

Augsburg appoint Jess Thorup

It's taken just six days to find Maaßen's successor, with Jess Thorup installed on a two-year deal. The Dane, who won Superliga titles whilst in charge of Midtjylland and Copenhagen, is itching to get started. "The club and the team have a lot of potential, and it's a great pleasure for me to work in the Bundesliga," the 53-year-old said.

A Bundesliga first

Heidenheim are facing Augsburg for the first time. Schmidt's side had not long been promoted to Germany's 3. Liga, when Augsburg gained promotion from Bundesliga 2 to the Bundesliga in 2011.
