Historically bad start
For the first time in Mainz's history, they have gone the first eight games of a Bundesliga season without a win. If you add in the results from the end of last season, Bo Svensson's men are now 13 games without a win, since they beat Bayern over 6 months ago.

No change
So the final whistle goes and it is as we were: Bayern are still unbeaten and Mainz are still winless. The hosts worked hard and cannot be faulted for effort, but a ruthlessly efficient Bayern took all three points.

Playing down the clock
Bayern are not showing so much attacking intent now, with a two-goal cushion and Tuesday to prepare for. Mainz cannot take advantage, though, and this lead looks like it will suffice for the Bavarians.

First to rest
Thomas Tuchel digs into his depleted reserves to give Leon Goretzka an early bath, Bouna Sarr replacing him. Thomas Müller remains on the bench, but he may well be kept wrapped up for Tuesday.

Goalscorer Caci and near-goalscorer Lee are the first Mainz players to leave the field, with Leitsch and Barkok the fresh blood Svensson hopes will pump some more energy into his team.

What a difference a minute makes
From being close to being back on level terms to being two goals to the good can take just a minute, and that has happened just now! Goretzka shows Bell how to find the bottom corner from the edge of the area, picking his spot from Jamal Musiala's pass.
58'
Inches away!
A great break from Mainz and Danny da Costa lays the ball on a plate for Bell, who looks for the bottom corner but misses by a matter of inches! So close to an equaliser!
54'
Trying to turn the screw
An intense 45 minutes is the last thing Bayern want ahead of a trip to Turkey to face Galatasaray in midweek, so they would like to wrap up the points here. Kimmich leads by example with a low shot to test Zentner's alertness.

Straight at it
Bell fizzes in a shot which Ulreich saves. There is only one way for Mainz to go now - on the attack - and this is a bright start to the second half from them.

All still to play for
Bayern were ruthless to take a two-goal lead, but Mainz have responded well and have had chances themselves. This game is finely poised as the teams return to the dressing rooms, and you would not rule the hosts out of it just yet!
Half-time

Game on!
A perfect time to score, just before half-time, to give Mainz hope! It came from a tight angle, with Caci hitting the ball sweetly to send it past Ulreich in a flash!

Ajorque over!
Another positive sign of life from Mainz, who put together a string of passes before Ajorque lifts his shot over. Can the 05ers find a route back into this game?
32'
Gruda slalom
Brajan Gruda managed to find a way through three Bayern defenders but ran out of pitch before Ulreich collected the ball, though he may also have used his hand to slow the ball down during his slalom. Nevertheless, a positive sign from the 19-year-old and Mainz.

Transformation needed for Mainz
They have scored six goals in their first seven games of the season and would need half of that in just over an hour to win here.

Kane in a hurry
Only three players in Bundesliga history have been quicker to score their first nine goals in the league: Erling Haaland, Paco Alcacer and Charly Dörfel. This is Kane's eighth game.

Done and dusted?
In 34 of the 35 games in which Coman scored for Bayern, they wrapped up all three points. Coman omen?
17'
Not for long...
Just as Mainz were threatening to level, Bayern have doubled their lead! Kane gets his ninth goal of the season, heading in from close range from Goretzka's header back from the goal line.

Lee goes so close!
That was almost the perfect answer from Mainz, but what an amazing save it is from Sven Ulreich, who dives down to his left and turns a seemingly unstoppable Lee header onto the left-hand post and away.

Counter Coman
All of Bayern's attacks had been coming down the left, and this may be why Kingsley Coman was totally free on the right to collect Sané's pass and drill in a low shot to complete a perfect counter-attack and give Bayern the lead.

The first shot of the game comes from Kimmich, who tries his luck from distance. Zentner is equal to it and pushes it over for a corner.

History not important
Mainz have won their last three home games against Bayern, but that means nothing to Bo Svensson. "They don't influence what happens today - though we will try to continue it," he said.
Svensson "Long way to go"
Bo Svensson is talking to Sky Deutschland and is trying to take the pressure off his team ahead of today's game. “No matter how this game goes, there are still many more to come," he said. "We’ve been heading in the right direction, even if we’ve not been getting the wins, and we want to keep going.”

Threadbare Bayern
There are just seven players on the Bayern bench today, of which two (Krätzig and Pavlovic) have yet to play in the Bundesliga. Neuer, Upamecano, Gnabry, Guerreiro and Mazraoui are all out injured.

More on those teams
Kohr is recalled in midfield for Mainz, while De Ligt replaces the injured Upamecano at the heart of the Bayern defence. Kimmich and Goretzka are passed fit in central midfield. Müller, who can set a new record for most Bundesliga wins today, is among the subs.

Bit of a bogey team
Bayern have won a whopping 71 percent of all league games against Mainz over the years, with the Carnival club triumphing just seven times. However, four of those Mainz wins have come in the last 15 league assignments, including victories in each of their last three meetings at the MEWA Arena.

Watch: Skill, luck or both?
De Ligt set to return
'Defensive crisis' has been bandied about in the German press of late, but Bayern appear well covered heading to Mainz. Matthijs de Ligt - one of their best players last season - is fit and should make his second league start of the campaign alongside Min-jae Kim at centre-back. Leon Goretzka moonlighted in the role in the DFB Cup, but is doubt.

Joint message for peace
The DFL has recommended a minute's silence in the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 to remember all innocent victims and their relatives after the devastating events in the Middle East. With this joint effort, the DFL and DFB would like to send a common message from German football for peace. Football is a sport that brings people together, which is why we all stand up for peaceful coexistence, respect and tolerance. A fortnight ago, the terrorist attack by Hamas on the people of Israel and the State of Israel began. The DFL is shocked by this terrible attack and the events in the region.

Svensson and Tuchel - a shared Bundesliga history
All 90 of Bo Svensson's Bundesliga matches for Mainz came during Thomas Tuchel's time as head coach. Meanwhile, the only previous top-flight dugout meeting between the two ended in a 3-1 victory for Svensson's Nullfünfer against Bayern in April this year.
