Goal brokers

Bayern have scored at least twice in all eight of their Bundesliga matches so far this term, and in 12 of their last 13 overall. Indeed, the defending champions boast the highest goals-per-game average among all teams in Europe's top five leagues (3.3) in 2023/24.

Top spot up for grabs

It's the first time in history that each of the Bundesliga's top four has at least 20 points after eight matches. Bayern can move top today - for 24 hours at least - but only if they win and second-placed Stuttgart don't beat Hoffenheim, or they draw and VfB lose. Dortmund - level on points with Bayern at the start of play - take on Frankfurt tomorrow. Leaders Leverkusen are at home to Freiburg in the final fixture of Matchday 9.

Expect goals!

Bayern have scored at least once in each of their last 61 Bundesliga fixtures at the Allianz Arena. Their 64-game scoring home streak of 1970 to 1974 is the record. Darmstadt's run of 25 Bundesliga outings without a clean sheet, meanwhile, is currently the longest of any club.

Tuchel praises Neuer

"I can feel his excitement and his class," Tuchel said when comfirming Neuer's comeback at his pre-match press conference on Friday. "He’s enjoying it right now and can be proud of himself. His comeback is very impressive. I’m confident he’ll quickly get back into top shape."

Will we see Neuer?

Of course the first thing Tuchel was asked at his pre-match press conference on Friday, and the answer was yes. "As long as nothing happens today, he'll play tomorrow. He's excited, we're excited. There's probably a lot of other people excited about it too," the coach said of the impending return of Bayern's captain.

Tuchel's view on Darmstadt

"Darmstadt sometimes defend very high, very aggressively, man to man. But sometimes they also defend deep with a back five. I can imagine they'll want to surprise us. They're dangerous out wide, have settled in at this level. We'll be ready and will give everything to win the game."
camera-photo

Lieberknecht's view on Bayern

“For us it’s a match where, even last season whenever we were challenging for promotion to the top flight, we always said: playing against Bayern is the ultimate sign – that is Bundesliga. So, there’s always been that excitement there. Nevertheless, we’ve earned this Bundesliga match. I think everybody knows we’re up against no easy opponents, but still we’ll try, like we do before every match, to prepare in a way that we say: Okay, we want to give a good account of ourselves there, perform as a team and not just go there so that we get to play against Bayern.”

Goals guaranteed

There have been 35 goals in games involving Darmstadt this season - that's an average of over four per game. Bayern, meanwhile, are the league's top scorers, with 26 goals.
