Full-time: Dortmund 4-0 Freiburg

It was a miserable day at the Signal Iduna Park for Freiburg, who saw two men sent off in a 4-0 defeat at Dortmund. The hosts looked assured, confident and creative from the off and weren't phased by a couple of clear chances for Freiburg after their first goal, maintaining composure before adding a second through Nmecha. They carried on where they left off, adding another two fantastic goals in the second-half to punish a lacklustre Freiburg side who didn't help themselves.

Goal! Gittens with a brilliant finish

Freiburg fail to clear a cross from the right and it finds its way to Bensebaini on the far side. He plays in Gittens, who shifts the ball onto his right before bending the ball into the far corner. Great goal!

Freiburg sleepwalking

The visitors have started this half very slowly, losing the ball cheaply and coming out second best in the duels too. They need to wake up quickly if they're to rescue a result here.

Dortmund applying the pressure

The hosts have started the half quickly, heaping the pressure on the Freiburg backline. Atubolu does well to punch clear a loose ball away from Beier and Freiburg can breathe again.

Half-time: Dortmund 2-0 Freiburg

Dortmund go into the break with a two goal lead thanks to two well taken goals. Beier opened the scoring early on with a composed finish before Nmecha doubled his side's lead with a brilliant strike from distance. Freiburg didn't manage to gain a firm foothold in the game despite a couple of good chances, and will now have plenty to do in the second-half.
44'

Is there a way back?

Before the second goal, Freiburg had looked good on the break and capable of a possible equaliser. Now two goals down, can they get themselves back in the game?

Goal! Nmecha doubles the lead

It's an outstanding strike from the midfield man, who doubles his side's lead with a brilliant strike from distance. He receives the ball from Gittens to the left of the box, opens his body up, and bends the ball back towards the near post, wrong-footing Atubolu and giving Dortmund a two-goal cushion.

Freiburg should be level!

Doan finds Grifo in space on the left-hand side of the area, who has his shot well saved by Kobel; the rebound falls to Höler who manages to hit the bar with the goal gaping. His second bite at the cherry is then cleared in front of the goal line by Schlotterbeck.

More on those teams

Dortmund boss Nuri Şahin has rung four changes to the side that lost 3-1 to Mainz last time out: Gregor Kobel will start between the sticks in place of Alexander Meyer, also taking the captain's armband from Emre Can, out suspended after a red card against Mainz; fit-again Waldemar Anton steps in to replace Can in the centre of defence; Rami Bensebaini also slots into defence while Donyell Malen will lead the line in place of Serhou Guirassy (illness). Meanwhile Freiburg make two changes after the 0-0 draw with Union: Höfler comes in for injured playmaker Erin Dinkçi (knee) and Lucas Höler replaces Junior Adamu in attack.

Şahin's fitness boost

"I'm pleased to finally be able to make some decisions. Previously I could only count to 11 and then play them," said a relieved Dortmund boss after an improvement in the team's recent injury crisis. Şahin confirmed at Thursday's press conference that five players are set to return in Gio Reyna, Julien Duranville, Waldemar Anton, Jamie Gittens and goalkeeper Gregor Kobel, while Niklas Süle, Karim Adeyemi and Kjell Wätjen are also making progress towards their comebacks. Only captain Emre Can misses out due to suspension.

Schuster's view on Dortmund

"Their big advantage is the energy created in that stadium. That can carry over to their play, especially in terms of counter-pressing. There are different ways to break up that rhythm. When you look at their games, they have great quality and flexibility with the ball. We'll defend passionately and resolutely. It's important we play with that energy."
camera-photo

Şahin's view on Freiburg

"I'm a fan of the way Freiburg play and how the club has managed to stabilise itself over the years. And Julian [Schuster] is doing a really good job. He's known the club for a long time, has taken on a lot from Christian Streich and then also brought in his own things. They're a team out on the pitch that do everything for each other. The table also shows they're doing really good work."
