Full-time: Gladbach 2-0 Pauli

It's all over at Borussia-Park, and Gladbach have sealed their fourth consecutive home league victory with a convincing performance against St. Pauli. The visitors improved after the break and created a few half-chances, but ultimately, it wasn't enough for them to come away with anything, as Gerardo Seoane's side finish the weekend in sixth place.

Another chance goes begging

Saliakis fires a wayward effort from long range, but it falls into Wahl's path on the way. The defender tries to steer it goalwards, however his attempt is off target.
87'

Irvine twice

The Pauli captain almost pulled one back for his side. His back-post header is saved by Nicolas, but then it falls to the Australian on the rebound, but this is also blocked and put behind for a corner.
85'

Vital intervention

It falls into Treu's path at the edge of the box, and the left wing-back fires it towards goal, but a heroic block from Friedrich diverts it behind for a corner, from which nothing comes.
83'

Vasilj denies third

A nice ball in behind the Pauli defence is collected by Kleindienst, but the Germany striker is bested in a one-on-one against Vasilj who is equal to the effort and parries it away.
81'

Header wide

Marvin Friedrich, who hasn't scored in 45 Bundesliga appearances, is next to try his luck after meeting the Gladbach corner, but he nods it wide.
80'

Neat passing

Gladbach work it nicely around St. Pauli's penalty area, and in the end it is Honorat who takes the shot, but it takes a deflection and goes up and over the goal.
76'

Game still alive

Pauli, who have played a much more active role in this second half, will need to find that extra bit of precision should they wish to take anything from this game. A quick goal here would set us up for an exciting finish!
75'

Off the bar!

Guilavogui gets on the end of a dangerous cross from Treu, and with the Gladbach 'keeper in no-man's land, the home side watch on nervously as the header clips the crossbar and goes over, meaning it remains 2-0.
73'

Promising position

A Chiarodia foul a few metres in from the corner flag results in another set-piece opportunity for the Boys in Brown. Eric Smith put a decent cross in, but the only head he could pick out was Kleindienst's, who clears.
71'

Gladbach breaking

The hosts launch their latest counter attack, as Honorat cuts it back to Neuhaus at the edge of the box. His shot is deflected, with the rebound looking to fall Kleindienst's way, but a Pauli defender gets in between man and ball and nods it behind for a corner.
70'

Smith tries his luck

Presumably with his stunner in Dortmund at the back of his mind, Eric Smith winds up and has a go from long range. However, Reitz blocks the shot at source.
68'

Bundesliga debut

Attacker Erik Ahlstrand enters the match to make his first Bundesliga appearance.
67'

Honorat from distance

The hosts break and charge towards Pauli's goal. It gets played right to Honorat, who fires a low shot towards the bottom-left corner from 25 yards out, but it flies just wide of the frame.
66'

Seoane makes triple change

The Gladbach boss brings on two midfielders and a defender to try and help and side regain control of the match, with Pauli seeing more and more of the ball.
65'

No way through

Pauli's period of possession is continuing, but every time a pass or cross is played in the direction of the Gladbach penalty area, the hosts' back-line is quick to intervene.
61'

Good spell

The Boys in Brown are spending a lot more time in the Gladbach half, but they are yet to fashion a clear-cut chance. Saliakis' shot from the edge of the box is blocked, and there is then an offside in the aftermath.
59'

Not giving in

Eric Smith follows Robin Hack deep into the Gladbach half. He ends up giving a foul away, but the intent is there from the visitors - they're not done yet!
57'

Speeding up

The home side are winning back possession after losing it a tick faster than they were in the first half, demonstrating how they want to continue controlling the game.

Clever from Pléa

The scorer of Gladbach's does well to work space for a cross, but Vasilj is able to come out and grab it before it met the head of the leaping Kleindienst.
49'

Monster tackle

Friedrich goes to ground in the penalty area, knowing that he has to get it spot on or else a penalty will be awarded. He just manages to get a foot on the ball and dispossesses the Pauli attacker!
48'

Glad-back on the ball

The home side have resumed the possession they were enjoying in the first half. They work it into the penalty box as Pléa lays it off to Ullrich on the left-hand side of the area, but the full-back skies his curled effort.

Here we go again!

The home side kick the second half off, and will be looking to secure the three points. Don't write off the visitors St. Pauli just yet, though!

Half-time: Gladbach 2-0 Pauli

A great first 45 minutes for Gladbach has come to an end, and they lead Pauli by two goals. The home side have dominated the proceedings: the visitors lack a focal point up top, which means there is no way out for them when they win the ball back off the Foals. Pléa's opener off his knee plus a cheeky Kleindienst chip have Gerardo Seoane's side two to the good.

Moving up

The hosts, who are playing with real confidence, are now enjoying a spell of possession in Pauli's half, but the away side are standing firm as Gladbach try a conjure up another opportunity.

Latest cross cleared

Pauli have sent in a fair few crosses in this first half, but none have been accurate enough, as Gladbach have been able to clear all of them to safety or allow 'keeper Nicolas to collect it.

Boot off

Pauli captain Jackson Irvine's boot inadvertently comes off, but the skipper is quick to amend this and is back in play. Fortunately for him, his side weren't in any danger and were in possession of the ball!
25'

Next effort

Ullrich tests Vaslij from outside the penalty box, and the Pauli 'keeper gets down and across to save the effort. The visitors are not being afforded a moment's rest by Gladbach at the minute.
22'

Cleared off the line!

Pléa was through on goal after a great flick-on from Kleindienst, and he looked set to double both his and Gladbach's tally. He opted to round the 'keeper rather than go for the finish, but David Nemeth got back to clear the ball from danger as it looked goalbound.

Taking no precautions

After knocking heads a couple of moments ago, USA international Joe Scally has gone off in place of Stefan Lainer.

Itakura knocks it over

The Japan international was unmarked at the back post and hit Honorat's corner into the ground on the volley, but the effort bounced up and over the goal, landing on the top of the net rather than in the back of it.
11'

First corner for the Foals

Irvine heads it behind after Honorat crossed it into the box from a free-kick, and the Boys in Brown now have a corner to contend with.
10'

Hack shut down

As the winger looked to break away down the left wing, the Pauli players made gut-busting runs to get back and eventually crowded out the Gladbach midfielder and cut out his eventual pass.
8'

Pléa imposing

The Frenchman is looking lively in the opening minutes of the game. Playing just in behind striker Kleindienst, he's getting his head up frequently and sending through his teammates with some good passes.
6'

Early pressure from the visitors

Pauli have made an active start to the game, flashing a couple of crosses across the Gladbach penalty area. However, none have led to any attempts on goal.

Vasilj called upon

Pléa's through ball in behind the Pauli defence looked dangerous, but the Bosnia international was alert to the pass and cleared it away from danger.

Getting the kids involved

As part of their matchday dedicated to supporting children's rights, the hosts' stadium announcer has been accompanied by a young Gladbach fan onto the pitch to give the team news.

Pair of pleasant away days

Both of St. Pauli's victories this season have come on the road (3-0 win in Freiburg, 2-0 victory at Hoffenheim). Can they disrupt Gladbach's momentum and secure another away victory which would take them outside of the relegation play-off spot?

More on those teams

For the second game in a row, it's an unchanged Gladbach side. Gerardo Seoane will be looking to reap the benefits from having the same XI on the pitch that beat Werder and drew in Leipzig. Meanwhile, Alexander Blessin has brought in David Nemeth to replace the injured Karol Mets, and Philipp Treu has replaced Lars Ritzka at left wing-back.

Blessin's view on Gladbach

"We'll need to get a handle on their attacking play. Hack is back to full fitness after his injury, as is Plea who plays just in behind Kleindienst. They seem a very settled side, but we want to be a nuisance and cause them some problems. We need to match their intensity and have a sound defence in order to create a few good chances for ourselves with the ball."
camera-photo

Seoane's view on St. Pauli

“St. Pauli are a promoted side that are very good on the ball. That said, they’ve also been very defensively compact in recent weeks, and have dropped back very deep at times. We’ll need to find the right solutions both on the counterattack and in our build-up play.”

Watch: No club like St. Pauli

Results haven't been kind to Pauli, but they're enjoying the ride, bringing international audiences into their unique world along the way.

Four in a row in sight

Borussia have won each of their last three Bundesliga matches at Borussia-Park: the last time they recorded four home league wins on the trot was almost five years ago under Marco Rose.

Slow out of the blocks

The resumptions of club football after the international break haven’t gone well for St. Pauli this season. The Boys in Brown failed to pick up a single point in their first game back in either September (3-1 loss at Augsburg) or October (2-1 defeat in Dortmund).

It's been a while...

This will be the first Bundesliga meeting between the clubs since the 2010/11 campaign, when Pauli won 3-1 at home and 2-1 away before being relegated. More recently, Borussia romped to a 4-1 triumph over the Kiezkicker in the 2015/16 DFB Cup first round.
