Burkardt - "I have a great feeling"

camera-photo

Full-time: Mainz 2-0 Hoffenheim

Bo Henriksen's men hold onto their 2-0 lead from half-time. They were in control for large parts of the second half, but didn't need to be as electric as they were in the first. They had chances to make it three through Mwene and Sieb. Hoffenheim were better in the second half, but besides a late header from Nsoki, stopped by a fantastic save from Zentner, they never looked like getting back into it. The Mainz keeper thus celebrates his third clean sheet in four matches, and Burkardt's first half brace remained the difference.

Half-time: Mainz 2-0 Hoffenheim

A supremely dominant display from Mainz so far. The exploded out the gates, taking the lead after just four minutes through a fantastic team goal that was finished off by Burkardt. The striker then doubled his side's advantage with an outrageous long-ranged effort twenty minutes later. Mainz may feel they could've even scored more, but the visitors will be disappointed. Hoffenheim have never looked like scoring this half. A big half ahead for Christian Ilzer's men.

Three's a crowd

Ralf Rangnick and Sebastian Hoeneß are the only two former Hoffenheim managers to have won their opening two Bundesliga games at the TSG helm. A win would allow Christian Ilzer to join this elite club too, but can he break down this very resilient Mainz outfit?

More on those teams

Christian Ilzer makes two changes to his side that beat Leipzig on his Bundesliga debut. Akpoguma comes in for Arthur Chaves, who isn't selected today following his side's 3-0 defeat away to Braga midweek. Bruun Larsen, who was the hero last week, replaces Bülter, who also isn't selected. Bo Henriksen names an unchanged side from Mainz's last outing: a 3-0 away victory over Kiel.

Christian Ilzer on Mainz

"Mainz are a team that have left their mark in Hoffenheim in recent years. They play with energy, have a very emotive coach. We've only had two days to recover, both physically and mentally. We need to build the energy we'll need on Sunday."

Bo Henriksen on Hoffenheim

"Of course I hope that we play well. We know that we are facing a good team in Hoffenheim, who are also very strong with the ball. If we defend solidly, we have a great chance of winning the game. We have to play very intensively to beat TSG - that is the plan for Sunday."
