Mainz inflict a first Bundesliga defeat on Vincent Kompany as Bayern boss! The Zero-fivers showed plenty of energy in the first half and were rewarded when Jae-sung Lee poked past Daniel Peretz from close range - other than a Michael Olise shot that hit the post, the visitors struggled to create opportunities. Mainz then doubled their advantage through Lee after the interval and, although Leroy Sané tapped in late on, it was not enough to deny Bo Henriksen and Co.

Bo Henriksen has only had to make one forced change to the hosts' line-up: with Danny da Costa having to go off with a groin injury after five minutes against Wolfsburg, Moritz Jenz has been called up to the starting XI. There are three changes to the Bayern side that began the 4-2 win over Heidenheim last weekend. Konrad Laimer and Eric Dier start ahead of Sascha Boey and Dayot Upamecano in defence, whilst Raphael Guerreiro has slotted back in at left-back in place of the injured Alphonso Davies, as Jamal Musiala, who scored that DFB Cup hat-trick against Mainz in October, returns to the Bayern attack.

Bayern bouncing back in Europe

The Bavarians' big win over Shakhtar - which also saw Konrad Laimer, Thomas Müller and Michael Olise (x2) join Musiala on the scoresheet - saw them climb to ninth place, on the verge of direct qualification for the quarter-finals, with two matches (vs Feyenoord and Slovan Bratislava) left to play in January.

Musiala stepping up

With Kane out, Bayern prodigy Jamal Musiala has stepped into the goal-scoring breach, hitting a brace in the 4-2 Matchday 13 win over Heidenheim and bagging a goal and an assist in the 5-1 Champions League romp away to Shakhtar Donetsk in midweek. This after the youngster hit his first-ever Bayern hat-trick in the 4-0 DFB Cup win over Mainz on 30 October.

Meanwhile Burkardt...

Jonathan Burkardt is the only Bundesliga player to have scored on each of the last four matchdays - the first time in his career he has found the target in the Bundesliga games in a row. What's more, Burkardt has won his two Bundesliga home games against Bayern, scoring the opening goal in each game to give Mainz a 1-0 lead.

Mainz won't have to worry about Harry Kane hitting another hat-trick against them, as the Englishman remains sidelined with a muscular issue (likely to be replaced by Thomas Müller). However, he may well be back in time to face rivals Leipzig next Friday - and the same goes for Canada left-back Alphonso Davies (also a muscular issue).

We've got a lot of respect for the opponent and know there are no easy games. The talk before the cup game there was how dangerous games there can be.
