Full-time: Bayern 5-1 Leipzig!

As comprehensive a victory as Bayern could have hoped for. They were brilliant today and will go into the winter break with at least a four-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga. Top-four hopefuls Leipzig weren't at the races and, more worrying still, have just seen Henrichs leave the field on a stretcher.

No Silva lining

The Portuguese striker looks certain to restore a measure of pride, but gets caught in two minds when through on Peretz's goal. That sums up Leipzig's night.

Calling Radio Müller!

The one-club man replaces Kane, who played his part without adding to his league-leading 14 Bundesliga goals so far this season.
86'

Crucial block!

The Bayern players are queuing up as a ball is played into the Leipzig penalty box from the left. Kimmich meets it, but Klostermann gets his body in the way to prevent a certain goal.
85'

So nearly a Tel-ling contribution...

... as the Bayern sub bends a wicked effort just over the crossbar from 18 yards. Gulácsi was beaten.
83'

Ch-ch-ch-changes

Davies' first Bundesliga goal of the season is the Canada international's last meaningful act. He makes way alongside Kim and Olise, with Guerreiro, Dier and Tel on for the final stages. Raum and Klostermann have also come on for Leipzig, moments after Kimmich was booked for pulling Silva to the turf.

It's a rout!

A patient game of cat and mouse culminates in a fifth Bayern goal. The Bundesliga leaders shift the ball from right to left and back again, with Davies racing towards the back post to head home Kimmich's inch-perfect cross for 5-1. Leipzig don't know what to do.

Silva for Šeško in attack and Kampl for Schlager in the middle of the park - can the fresh Leipzig legs make a difference?

Bayern pushing for a fourth

Henrichs does well to block Davies' low ball across the face of goal. Bayern get it back in a similar position, but Musiala's pass is just behind Olise, who was all alone in front of Gulácsi.
70'

First change

Kompany, perhaps in response to Laimer's booking, replaces the Austrian midfielder with Aleksandar Pavlović. Kimmich will move to right-back.
67'

Chances!

Kane sprays an audacious pass from inside the Bayern half to Sané, who sends an 18-yard drive wide of the far post. The home side come again as a pass is worked to Kane in the box, but Gulácsi throws up a strong hand to beat the Englishman's shot away.

Sixth booking

This one for Laimer, who was late on Baumgartner in the build-up to that Nusa chance.

Sané leads a five-on-two break. Leipzig get another man back as the play is switched to Olise, who drifts inside and curls wide of the upright. It felt like there was more in that.
57'

Into the book

No complaints from Olise. He was very late in his attempt to stop Šeško breaking away up the left-hand side.
53'

Close!

Bayern attack up the right with Laimer, who asks the question with a teasing cross. Sané connects on the stretch, but sends his effort wide. Not an easy one for the Bayern No.10.
52'

Road Runner

Openda initially beats Davies for pace - how often do we say that about another player? - but the Canadian recovers to make a superbly timed sliding challenge.
49'

Saved!

The chances are coming thick and fast for Bayern as Musiala stings the palms of Gulácsi with a rising left-footed strike from inside the area. That all came about following a lightning break led by Goretzka, who at one stage looked like he was going to go it alone, before getting the ball caught under his feet.
48'

Chance!

Kim from Kimmich's resultant corner, but the South Korean can't direct his header on target.

Half-time: Bayern 3-1 Leipzig!

A brilliant first half of Bundesliga football comes to a close at the Allianz Arena. There were goals at either end in the opening two minutes, before league leaders Bayern took complete control through a couple of brilliant strikes from Leipzig alumni Laimer and Kimmich. This could get very messy for the visitors, unless they can stem the tide.

No stopping that from Kimmich, who thunders a vicious, swerving effort beyond Gulácsi's despairing dive from fully 25 yards. Watch out for that when the match highlights drop at full-time - special, special goal.

More drama in Munich. Bayern win back possession in their own half and work it to Laimer. Watch: Jamal Musiala reaching next level

Bayern's creator-in-chief is hitting new heights in 2024/25. Barely a week goes by without him doing something noteworthy in the final third: he's already got 13 goals and eight assists across 21 competitive games, putting him on a career-best trajectory for a single campaign.

Rose-y record

This will be Rose's 13th competitive meeting with Bayern as a head coach. He's overseen four wins in that time, including two in Munich. In fact, the 48-year-old has only lost one of five against the record champions whilst in the Leipzig dugout (W2, D2).

Title talk

A Leipzig win would really blow the title race wide open ahead of the Bundesliga's customary winter break. It'd lift them to within three points of Bayern whilst giving defending champions Leverkusen the chance to cut the lead to one with victory over Freiburg on Saturday. Frankfurt are also in the mix, the Eagles - like Leipzig - beginning the weekend on 27 points.

More on those teams

Bayern welcome back Kane and Davies from injury. Upamecano and Goretzka are also recalled, with Dier, Guerreiro, Pavlović and Müller dropping to the bench following last week's shock loss in Mainz. As for Leipzig, goalkeeper Gulácsi returns in place of Vandevoordt and Vermeeren replaces Kampl in a like-for-like change in the centre of midfield.

Leipzig starting XI

Gulácsi - Seiwald, Orbán (c), Geertruida - Henrichs, Vermeeren, Schlager, Nusa - Baumgartner - Šeško, Openda

Kane is in the building

We'll have the official line-ups and squad lists shortly but Bayern forward Harry Kane, pictured here arriving at the Allianz Arena moments ago, is on the premises after struggling with an injury in recent weeks.
camera-photo

Can Bayern bounce back from Mainz loss?

"We've had three defeats so far and have always shown a very good reaction, and we want to do the same now," said Bayern sporting director Max Eberl, who saw his side react to the 4-1 Champions League loss to Barcelona with seven successive clean-sheet wins across all competitions, with 18 goals scored. "We want to win every game, and that includes the match against Leipzig. That really would be a very good way to end the year."
camera-photo

Leipzig have form in Munich

Although Leipzig fell 2-1 to a Harry Kane double on their last trip to the Allianz Arena, the two previous trips to Munich proved very successful for Die Roten Bullen. First up, on Matchday 33 of the 2022/23 season, Leipzig won 3-1 thanks to Konrad Laimer, Christopher Nkunku and Dominik Szoboszlai, and then in the final of the 2023/24 DFL Supercup, they won 3-0 thanks to the very busy Dani Olmo's hat-trick.

Meanwhile...

After missing Leipzig's Bundesliga Matchday 14 win over Frankfurt, midfielder Amadou Haidara is also a chance for the game in Munich, and Kevin Kampl (muscular problem) will be tested in the final training session for a possible appearance. However, Castello Lukeba (thigh), Yussuf Poulsen (thigh) and Eljif Elmas (hamstring) have all been ruled out.
camera-photo

Raum a chance, Xavi has to wait

David Raum could make his comeback in Munich after missing 13 matches with an ankle injury. The Germany left-back has been training well and is in the squad for the trip to Munich, but there's no such news concerning Xavi Simons. It was hoped that the Dutchman would have recovered from an ankle injury by the time this headline clash with Bayern came around, but the club has announced his return is now to be expected in January.
camera-photo

Leipzig back on track

After a tough month of November that saw Leipzig go winless across all competitions as they struggled to find their feet without injured playmaker Xavi Simons, Rose's men have turned it around in December. They have notably beaten direct rivals Frankfurt in the DFB Cup (3-0) and the league (2-1), as well as getting the better of Kiel (0-2), and now sit fourth, level on points with the Eagles.
camera-photo

Marco Rose counting on Kane start

"14 goals and seven assists, that's the difference. That's what Kane is all about. He's just there in certain situations. You see it immediately when Kane is missing. When he's back, he doesn't need a long run-in, he's just a world-class striker. Musiala and Kane are, of course, a strong duo that you have to try to contain."

Marco Rose on facing Bayern

"I think when you compare the squads, you can see some differences. When I came here, I was asked about the desire for titles. The ambition is always there here. It's normal once you've tasted blood, won two DFB Cups and the Supercup. But the Bundesliga is a title that you aren't able to plan for. You need to develop towards it. When we've got everyone fit, then I back us to be able to hurt any opponent."
camera-photo

Vincent Kompany on facing Leipzig

"Leipzig's individual and collective quality is right up there in the Bundesliga. The intensity in games like against Stuttgart or Leverkusen was always very high. I'm expecting that tomorrow as well. They have players who can make the difference, but so do we. To me it's clear what we want to do. We're playing at home and want to win."
camera-photo

Kompany on players potentially returning from injury

"Everyone who's trained, except Stani [Josip Stanišić] and Serge [Gnabry], could play. Harry Kane and Phonzy [Alphonso Davies] have been involved. If things go well by Friday, then things look good. I won't say if he [Kane] will start or not. If things go well, he'll definitely play some part."

Year's best

Kane currently leads the way for Bundesliga goals scored in the 2024 calendar year with 29. Leipzig's Openda is second on that list with 19, with teammate Šeško in sixth place with 16, while Musiala is one rung below on 15.
