Full time: Augsburg 2-3 Mainz

A huge three points for Mainz in what is their first win of the new Bundesliga season. Things appeared to be going smoothly when they went 2-0 up inside the first 15 minutes, but the hosts pulled a goal back and then Nadiem Amiri’s sending off changed the complexion of the match. Jonathan Burkardt added a third for the visitors early in the second period, and although Augsburg responded well and reduced the deficit once more, Samuel Essende’s sending off hampered their chances of taking something from the game.

Essende stepping into Demirović 's shoes

Former captain Ermedin Demirović scored 15 goals in the German top flight last term before completing a move to VfB Stuttgart. In the summer, Augsburg signed Samuel Essende as his replacement, and the new arrival has two goal in his first four matches for the club. Will he find the back of the net again here?

Mainz goals on the horizon?

Augsburg have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their past nine competitive matches, while Mainz have found the back of the net in each of their previous 11 Bundesliga outings.

Best start in four seasons

While Augsburg have only won one of their opening three games, their four-point haul at this point of the season is their best return across the past four campaigns. Only twice in their 13-year Bundesliga history have they amassed seven point after four fixtures, so they will be looking to make it three here.
