Full-time: St. Pauli 0-3 Mainz

Mainz pick up their second win of the season and Bo Henriksen will be absolutely delighted with a clinical and intelligent display. Pauli will be scratching their heads at how they haven't scored their first home goal, but in truth they could have played for a few more hours and not found the back of the net.

Perfection from Burkardt!

Everything had slowed down but then Mainz strike again out of nowhere. Amiri feeds Burkardt off the shoulder of the defender and he runs through and slots a fine effort into the bottom corner. Superb forward play from the German.

Vasilj looking for history

Nikola Vasilj will be looking to make it three clean sheets on the bounce which would be a Pauli Bundesliga record. In front of him he has an unchanged defence, the same back five for the past seven games in all competitions.

More on those teams

St. Pauli make just one change from their winning side last time out, with Carlo Boukhalfa out due to injury and replaced by Robert Wagner who himself has just returned from illness. Mainz react to the 2-0 loss to Heidenheim with three changes. Leitsch replaces the suspended Andreas Hanche-Olsen at the back, while Kohr moves to the backline in place of Silvan Widmer and Amiri replaces him in midfield. Sieb is also swapped in for Hong up front.

Henriksen on bouncing back

"If you think too much in football, you get into trouble. In my opinion, the team thought too much in the first 20 minutes about the fact that they hadn't won a home game yet. We were really bad then. It only got better after the sending off. The most important thing is to make the lads realise that they shouldn't put too much pressure on themselves because we have a good team if we put in a good performance. We want to do that and win tomorrow."
camera-photo

Blessin's thoughts on Mainz

"They play no-frills football, so it's going to be a completely different game in which we'll probably have a bit more possession. Mainz are very clear in their build-up play and work a lot with second balls, which we have to pick them up on. It's going to be a very combative game."

Vasilj - Wahl, Smith, Mets - Saliakas, Irvine (c), Metcalfe, Treu - Afolayan, Eggestein, Saad

St. Pauli: Saad, Boukhalfa in doubt

Alexander Blessin has some selection headaches to contend with following top scorer Elias Saab's pulling up ill in training on Monday and midfielder Carlo Boukhalfa experiencing a potential recurrence of a hip injury during the 3-0 win in Freiburg last time out. Both players are considered doubtful for the Mainz clash.

Tale of the tape

Only two of the 25 meetings between the two have come in the Bundesliga, with Mainz winning on both occasions - the last one of those came in 2011. In the second tier, Pauli have a slight edge, winning seven times to Mainz's six.
camera-photo

Saad and Burkardt the ones to watch

While Pauli's forward has been involved in all four of his side's Bundesliga goals this term (two goals, two assists), Burkardt has found the back of the net in each of Mainz's last five away games and has three goals overall in the league this season. Each side's fortunes may well rely on their respective contributions.

Enjoying their travels

Mainz will be happy to be on the road again here. They are undefeated in their previous six away games, while they have scored at least three in the past three such outings.

Strong at the back

Despite their mixed start to the term, Pauli have given very little away defensively. Only three sides have conceded fewer than their six goals thus far, while another clean sheet would mean they have not shipped in three consecutive Bundesliga matches for the first time.

Pauli drought over

Die Kiezkicker's three-point haul at Freiburg last time out ended a run of 16 Bundesliga games without a win. Their previous triumph amongst the elite was in February 2011.
