That could be that
Gregoritsch finds Ginter in the box but he opts to try and pass to Osterhage for a tap in when it would have been easier to shoot. Leipzig clear.

Not good enough
Vandevoordt doesn't even move as Muslija's free-kick sails harmlessly over the bar.
88'
Big chance

Geertruida seeing plenty of the ball
The potential matchwinner is no longer being picked up down the right-hand side. Freiburg need to be careful.
72'
More practice for Vandevoordt
Muslija is the latest to try and test the new goalkeeper from range, but he'll have to do far better than that.

Too high
Grifo takes it and it's a metre over the bar. The Italian grimaces as he knows he should've done better.

Freiburg's eyes light up

Šeško denied again!
This one's an even better save by Atubolu. The free-kick is cleared and sent back into the striker who nods it back across goal. Atubolu's fingertips stop a certain equaliser.
38'
First booking
Adamu tracks back to stop Geertruida but is overly physical. He gets a yellow card and gives away a free kick in a dangerous position...
36'
What a chance!
Nusa plays Šeško into the box and he's free to blast a shot past Atubolu. Instead, it's straight at the keeper who sends a powerful shot behind for a corner.
34'
Dinkçi tries his luck
Leipzig are caught out as a brilliant flick-on from Dōan finds Dinkçi in space. He should probably play Adamu in, but opts to shoot and misses the top corner.
33'
Openda chasing shadows
The Belgian is certainly Leipzig's biggest threat, but Freiburg are brilliantly reading every ball forward and cutting him out of the game.
32'
Nearly two!
Some nice passing sees Günter in space on the left and he hits a first time shot across the face of goal and just past the right-hand post. That would have been his second in two games.

Risky from Atubolu
Having already seen a pass out intercepted by Openda for a chance, Atubolu does the same with Šeško. The striker can't quite hold onto the ball, but that was very dangerous.
24'
Nice work from Leipzig
A lovely passing move ends with Nusa being played in behind but he narrowly fails to find Šeško for the opener.
21'
Easy for Gulácsi
Grifo sends the ball onto the head of Kübler, but his header is straight at the Leipzig goalkeeper.
21'
Another set piece chance

Another Leipzig chance
Kampl sends in a free kick from the far touchline and Baumgartner gets to it first to flick it towards the near corner. Atubolu gets down well to stop a certain goal.

How has he missed?!
What a chance for Freiburg! Eren Dinkçi and Junior Adamu link up beautifully and the latter ghosts past Willi Orbán and just needs to slot home. He instead puts the ball wide and is left with his head in his hands.

Big chance for Leipzig!
Benjamin Henrichs is played into space on the left hand side and probably should shoot. He carried the ball into the box and instead tries to find Openda, who's disrupted and sends his shot over the bar.
5'
Another corner
Freiburg's first attempt sees Osterhage send a good chance wide. Their second try is cleared by Openda.

Freiburg with the better start
The visitors have a small handball appeal and then win the game's first corner thanks to some nice work from Dōan.

A reminder of what's at stake
Victory for either side will see them top the Bundesliga overnight before Bayern Munich face Bochum. A draw will do the same for Leipzig. Furthermore, victory for Freiburg will make it their best-ever start after eight games.

Marco Rose on losing Xavi
“Xavi will unfortunately be sidelined for several weeks. He's an important player for us, but we have full confidence in our squad and will look to fill his absence as a team. We have good players that will now be able to see more game time."
