Watch: Nandja on his first Bundesliga goal

Full time: Hamburg 3-1 Gladbach

HSV collect their fourth Bundesliga win over the season, and scored a couple of absolute bangers through Muheim and Grønbæk as they did so. Itakura's sending off for a second bookable offence early in the second half changed the course of the game, but the home side made their numerical advantage count to pull further clear of the relegation zone - and leave Gladbach rooted to the bottom of the table.

Keep ball

HSV are under no pressure to get forward so are happy to pass the ball around among themselves near the halfway line, forcing the tired Gladbach players to chase them.
84'

Worth a go

Batz is rooted to the spot as Amoako is allowed to run at the Gladbach defence, before dragging wide from 18 yards.
82'

Fresh legs

A triple Gladbach change as Blessin goes for broke. Polzin, meanwhile, sends on striker Yussuf Poulsen and defensive midfielder Kofi Amoako, with Grønbæk and Sambi Lokonga making way.

Half chance

The ball breaks for Mohya inside the HSV penalty area after a Gladbach shot is charged down. The teenager's under pressure, though, and can only sweep his effort past the upright.

One-way traffic

The Red Shorts are pushing for a fourth goal as Daka goes within a whisker of reaching El Ouahdi's low ball into the six-yard box, before heading over at the end of HSV's next attack.

Pick that out!

Grønbæk rivals Muheim's earlier strike with another sensational long-range finish that all came about following a loose ball out from the Gladbach defence. That's surely the points in the bag for Hamburg.

Huge let-off!

Bornauw receives a pass from his goalkeeper and blindly squares the ball to Machino on the edge of the area. The Gladbach striker selflessly feeds Scally, whose goal-bound attempt is blocked by the recovering Bornauw.

Attacking changes

He could have shut up shop, but Polzin clearly wants his side to put this one to bed against the 10 men of Gladbach.

Watch: Nandja celebrates!

Hamburg retake the lead!

HSV make their man advantage count. There's a touch of good fortune about it as Daka tries and fails to control Grønbæk's teasing pass into the middle of the penalty area. Youth product Nandja picks it up and leathers a fine finish past Batz. Emphatic!

Gladbach down to 10 men!

Itakura leaves his team with a mountain to climb after pulling down Møller Wolfe on halfway and receiving his second yellow card. That was rash.

Kick-off!

Half-time: Hamburg 1-1 Gladbach

Miro Muheim's thunderbolt gave HSV the lead, but Gladbach found a way to draw level on the stroke of half-time. Special mention to Borussia goalkeeper Daniel Batz, who made a string of fine saves to prevent the home side extending their lead prior to Joe Scally's equaliser.

Gladbach are level!

What a time to equalise. A cross into the penalty area is headed out towards Scally, who steers a first-time finish into the far corner with the aid of a deflection.

Crucial stop

Møller Wolfe is allowed to turn on a sixpence and get a shot off from inside the penalty area, but Batz closes his legs as the ball comes his way and makes the block.

It's official!

Muheim's goal was measured at 129.43 km/h, making it the fastest of the current Bundesliga campaign.

Caution

Itakura goes into the book for bringing down Sambi Lokonga on the edge of the area. Albert Grønbæk steps up to take the ensuing free kick, but clears the crossbar by some distance.

36'

Blushes spared

Møller Wolfe's volley draws a smart reaction save from Batz following a sustained spell of HSV pressure. Florian Neuhaus spots Heuer Fernandes off his line as Gladbach break, but his attempted lob goes wide of the goal. Just as well - Heuer Fernandes made a right mess of trying to control it.
33'

Nearly!

Hamburg only half clear following a dangerous Gladbach foray. It's worked back into the penalty box for Uno, who stands up his man and curls a low cross-shot just beyond the far post.
27'

Uno concern

Uno's moving gingerly after landing on his lower back following an aerial challenge, but will try to run it off.
25'

Denied!

Heuer Fernandes is called on once more, this time getting down at his near post to beat away Hack's shot on the turn. Good spell for Gladbach, this.
22'

Superb save!

Heuer Fernandes gets a strong hand to Gladbach's next attempt, the Hamburg custodian diving to his right to prevent Zento Uno's rising drive from nestling in the top corner.
20'

Off the line!

Bornauw gets in the way of Itakura's downward header, before the whistle sounds for an offside against the Gladbach defender. Hard to tell if Heuer Fernandes would have got anything on that effort.

Twinkle toes

Mohya shows exactly why he's just been called up to represent Germany for the first time. The 17-year-old escapes the attentions of three defenders before feeding the run of Scally, who completely miscues his attempt. That deserved a better finish.
14'

Almost two!

Some exquisite one-touch football cuts through the Gladbach defence. It goes through Daka and then Adeline, who touches it off to his right for El Ouahdi. He fires across goal, but Batz gets down really well to make the block.
0:15

What a strike!

No chance for Batz this time as Muheim thunders in a now trademark long-range rocket - his third of the season. That was a brilliant strike.

More on that Hamburg team

Defender Sebastiaan Bornauw, wing-back Zakaria El Ouahdi and forward Patson Daka (pictured) return to the HSV starting line-up, but the game comes too soon for injured centre-back Nicolás Capaldo. Jordan Torunarigha, Louis Lemke and Terem Moffi all drop to the bench.

More on that Gladbach team

Blessin makes one change to the team that started the goalless draw with Paderborn as Kō Itakura (pictured) comes into the back three for the injured Daiki Hashioka. The subs' bench, meanwhile, is boosted by returning duo Franck Honorat and Kevin Diks.

Watch: A sneak peek inside HSV's changing room

Alexander Blessin on facing Hamburg

"The atmosphere in the Volksparkstadion is always incredible. Last year, it was precisely the home games that kept HSV in the league. We've had several good situations after winning the ball recently, but we need to play them out more cleanly. If we're more precise in the final third, we'll create more scoring opportunities."

Merlin Polzin on facing Gladbach

"I don't like to talk about individual players on the opposing team, but it's simply a joy to watch a player like Wael Mohya. His enthusiasm for the game is impressive. He's somewhat representative of what's been happening in Gladbach in recent weeks. They're a team that struggled to get into the season due to a large number of injuries. That has gradually improved now that key players are back. You can clearly see how they defend, what triggers they choose, how aggressively they work off the ball. The game in Stuttgart was emblematic of their commitment in terms of running and defending. They want to build on their positive momentum. Our task will be to make it a home game on Friday. We know what we're capable of at the Volksparkstadion. We'll deliver that on Friday."

No need to panic

Borussia were also bottom of the table after Matchday 8 last season - with even fewer points on the board (three compared to four). They survived comfortably at the end of the campaign, finishing nine points above the relegation play-off position in 12th.

Hamburg hoping for an upturn

After starting the Bundesliga season with three defeats, Merlin Polzin's side then gained three successive wins - before going on to lose three on the bounce again in all competitions.
