Schalke's Simon Terodde made Bundesliga 2 goalscoring history, but what were the other notable stats to crop up in 2021/22?

1 – Terodde is the first player to win four Bundesliga 2 top scorer's cannons.

2 – For only the second time, the two relegated teams - Schalke and Werder Bremen, in this case - earned immediate promotion back to the Bundesliga. VfB Stuttgart and Hannover pulled it off in 2016/17.

2 – Bremen played their second season of Bundesliga 2 football, bouncing back at the first time of asking once more.

3 – Schalke played their sixth season of Bundesliga 2 football, earning promotion as champions for the third time.

3 – Hamburg finished in the top three for the first time since being relegated to Bundesliga 2 in 2018. They finished fourth in their previous three campaigns.

4 – Robert Glatzel scored the only four-goal haul of the season in Hamburg's 5-0 win over Darmstadt on Matchday 21. He's the first HSV player to score four single-game league goals since Horst Hrubesch some 40 years ago.

5 – Schalke won their last five away games of the season. They have won five away matches in a row only once before: in the 2004/05 Bundesliga, under Ralf Rangnick.

5 – Darmstadt went five Bundesliga 2 home games without conceding between Matchdays 5-14 - a new club record.

6 – Darmstadt's 6-0 win over Erzgebirge Aue on Matchday 32 was the biggest victory of the season.

7 – Hamburg are the first team since the introduction of the three-point rule in 1995/96 to overturn a seven-point deficit on the top three over the final five matches of a season.

10 – Sandhausen - the smallest club in the division - have successfully navigated a 10th straight Bundesliga 2 season. They claimed 14 points during the Hinrunde, compared to 27 in the Rückrunde - the fifth best tally across the division in 2022.

12 – Hannover finished 11th and conceded 49 times, but kept a league-high 12 clean sheets.

12 – The 2022/23 season will be Pauli's 12th in a row in Bundesliga 2 - the longest series of any current club in the second tier.

13 – Until Matchday 21, Paderborn were unbeaten across their first 13 Bundesliga away games - a club record.

15 – Matchday 27 saw the lowest number of goals of the season (15), though not one of the nine matches ended goalless. The last time there were fewer goals was Matchday 27 of 2016/17 (12).

16 – Aged 16 years and 142 days, Efe-Kaan Sihlaroglu became the youngest player in Bundesliga 2 history when he was introduced to Karlsruhe's 4-0 win over Hannover on Matchday 15.

17 – John Verhoek scored 17 Bundesliga 2 goals - a Hansa Rostock single-season record.

21 – Marvin Ducksch was Bremen's 21-goal top scorer, and ranked third league wide. Miroslav Klose was the last Werder player to score more (25 Bundesliga goals in 2005/06).

21 – HSV scored 21 goals in the final 15 minutes of matches, equating to 13 points.

22 – Glatzel scored 22 goals. Terodde (24 Bundesliga 2 goals in 2020/21) and Sergej Barbarez (22 goals in the 2000/01 Bundesliga) are the only other Hamburg players to have scored as many in a single campaign.

22 – Schalke ended the season on a club record run of scoring at least once in 22 straight league matches.

24 – Bremen have scored in their last 24 matches on the bounce - another Bundesliga 2 club record.

30 – Terodde scored a career-best 30 Bundesliga 2 goals. He's the first Schalke player of the professional era to reach 30 single-season goals, and the first in Bundesliga 2 since Sven Demandt struck 35 times for Fortuna Düsseldorf in 1988/89.

33 – Schalke won 10 away matches for the first time. They totalled 33 points on their travels - another club record and league-leading total.

37 – There were a season-high 37 goals on Matchdays 25 and 31.

37 - St. Pauli were the best home team, with 37 points. They also scored 37 times - their best goals tally in front of their own fans for 21 years.

40 – Ducksch und Niclas Füllkrug scored 40 goals between them, including 20 of Bremen's final 24 strikes of the season. It's the first time two Bremen players have each scored at least 19 single-season goals.

42 – Terodde accounted for a league-leading 42 percent of his team's goals (30 of 71).

101 – There were a record high 101 away wins, and a record low 119 home victories.

154 – Terodde became Bundesliga 2's record 154-goal leading marksman on Matchday 14. He's since taken his tally to 172.

892 – There were 892 goals scored across the season. Although 16 less than in 2020/21, it's still the fourth highest total of the century (2020/21: 908, 2018/19: 904, 2001/02: 962).

1591 – Hannover scored their 1589th, 1590th and 1591st Bundesliga 2 goals on Matchday 34. Only Greuther Fürth have produced more (1674) in the history of Germany's second tier.

3060 – Goalkeepers Markus Kolke (Rostock), Kevin Müller (Heidenheim) and Jannik Huth (Paderborn) were the only players to play every minute (3,060) of all 34 matches. Darmstadt captain Fabian Holland was the outfield with the most minutes, only missing 120 seconds of action.
