Bayern Munich's Alphonso Davies named Canada Soccer 2022 Player of the Year
Bayern Munich's Alphonso Davies has been named Canada Soccer Player of the Year for the fourth time in five seasons.
Davies helped Bayern win the 2021/22 Bundesliga and 2022 Supercup, whilst becoming Canada's record appearance-maker in the UEFA Champions League. The 22-year-old was also instrumental in his country reaching their first World Cup since 1986, before scoring their first ever goal at a finals.
Davies has won three of his four Canadian Player of the Year awards since officially joining Bayern from Vancouver Whitecaps in January 2019. During his time in Munich, the Edmontonian - who was born in a Ghanaian refugee camp after his parents fled the Liberian civil war - has blossomed into one of the best left-backs in world football.
Davies has played 134 times in all competitions for the record champions, winning - among others - four Bundesliga titles and the 2019/2020 UEFA Champions League, becoming the first Canadian to achieve the latter. The 36-time Canada international is now only eight games shy of 100 appearances in the German top flight.

"Every time I play the game, it's truly amazing," Davies admitted after Canada's 2022 World Cup campaign ended at the group stage following defeats to Belgium, Croatia and Morocco. "Each and every time I come to training, I'm living the dream and I'm happy about it."
