DERBYSTAR unveils 2019/20 Bundesliga match ball
DERBYSTAR has presented the official match ball for the 2019/20 Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 season.
DERBYSTAR has revealed the official match ball to be used in the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 for the upcoming 2019/20 season. The new “Bundesliga Brillant APS” will be used in a competitive match for the first time on 26 July when the Bundesliga 2 kicks off the new season.
The design of the ball is based on the classic black and white look of DERBYSTAR and is complemented by innovative optical elements. The presentation took place at an event in Hamburg by the DERBYSTAR management, led by Joachim Böhmer and Andreas Filipovic. The successful and cooperative partnership with the German Football League (DFL) was highlighted by Andreas Nagel, DFL Director Sport & Junior, and former Bundesliga player Hans Sarpei.

DERBYSTAR has reinterpreted the stripe design to symbolise the interaction between players and fans through the intertwining movements of the lines. The transition from increasingly light, silver to dark, black elements emphasizes the speed and dynamics of the ball.
The coloured arrows always indicate a clear direction – there are no uncontrolled changes of direction, but precise, straightforward determination. The turquoise colour reflects DERBYSTAR's business philosophy by combining two colours and their symbolic meanings into one: green stands for the reliability and trustworthiness that the official ball radiates on the field, blue is the colour of the soul and stands for our belief that every ball has a soul.
DERBYSTAR has been the official match ball of the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 since the 2018/19 season. The cooperation between the DFL and the internationally recognised traditional brand is initially planned until 2021/22.
As early as 1970/71, DERBYSTAR was represented by numerous collaborations with clubs in the Bundesliga. In the 1979/80 season, all 306 Bundesliga matches were played with DERBYSTAR balls.
