Erling Haaland on meditation, FIFA 20, pizza, Cristiano Ronaldo and Borussia Dortmund's Yellow Wall
Pre-match meditation and post-game FIFA 20 with a 12-inch kebab pizza? It's fair to say Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland is rewriting the goal-scoring rulebook.
Haaland has started life at Dortmund with a bang, scoring nine goals at a scarcely believable rate of one every 57 minutes.
The 19-year-old is the first player in Bundesliga history to score a debut hat-trick after coming on as a substitute, as well as the first to strike five times in his opening two games, seven in his first three matches, eight in his opening five and nine in his maiden six.
Watch: Erling Haaland under the tactical microscope
Haaland's achievements on the pitch are unprecedented - the Norwegian teenager has put away 40 goals in 33 appearances for Red Bull Salzburg and Dortmund in 2019/20 alone. His preferred methods of upkeep are no less out of the ordinary.
"I train a lot, and I meditate a lot," Haaland told Borussia Dortmund TV. "Before a game, I always listen to a song called 'Keep Dreaming' - and I also meditate. When I'm not playing, I like to play FIFA with my boys. I also enjoy kebab pizza."
If that sounds like a deliciously upside-down, fun-filled way of unwinding, don't knock it. Haaland's 25 top-flight goals so far this season is a number matched only by Bayern Munich counterpart Robert Lewandowski, and bettered by former Dortmund forward Ciro Immobile (27, Lazio).
Cristiano Ronaldo - one of the Norway international's self-confessed "idols" as a child - was on 21 league goals before the Covid-19 pandemic put the remainder of the current campaign on hold.
For those looking to emulate his success, Haaland has one piece of advice: "Stay hungry, always chase your goals."
And who knows? Fuel that hunger with the occasional cheat food, and you, too, could one day be sticking away goals by the bucket-load in front of Dortmund's famed Yellow Wall at the Signal Iduna Park.
"It gives you goosebumps. To watch the wall and to see all these people - it's amazing," Haaland explained, before discussing the buzz he gets when BVB fans chant his name.
"It's one of the best feelings of my whole life, to be honest," he said with a smile. "When this happens it's amazing. I cannot describe it."
