Borussia Mönchengladbach's Joe Scally: "I'm a fast, physical player"
American teenager Joe Scally says he is a "fast, physical player" and that he is looking forward to playing with his Borussia Mönchengladbach teammates following his arrival from New York City FC.
Gladbach agreed a deal with Scally in November 2019 but he was not able to move to Europe until he turned 18, which was on 31 December 2020.
He has been training individually since touching down in Germany, but will be incorporated into the first-team bubble over the coming days.
"I feel good, I'm going to be back on the field soon," the right-back told the club's in-house media channel, Fohlen TV. "I've been doing stuff by myself individually but it’s been good and I'm looking forward to getting back on the field."
The 22-time USA U17 international has moved into an apartment right next to the club's Borussia-Park stadium, and has been keeping himself entertained when not hard at work: "I've been playing Xbox and FaceTiming my family all day. It's pretty much what I do after training. I go home and play Fortnite and FIFA."
The 18-year-old is obviously still settling into his new surroundings, but has been warmly welcomed by the rest of the first-team squad: "It's very different to my home is but I like it a lot. The stadium is beautiful, everything here is very nice. The training ground also. I’m looking forward to playing in the stadium and especially looking forward to when the fans are able to come back.
"I've met the coach and the team. They all seem very nice and I'm looking forward to being able to play with them on the field."
Watch: Highlights if Gladbach's win over Bayern
Although he has not yet been able to train with the rest of his colleagues, he has observed their sessions from the side of the pitch - and has been impressed by what he's seen: "The intensity in training is very fast. After their big win against Bayern it was good to see everyone happy and getting ready for their next game."
He also gave an insight into what to expect once he finally does get going with the rest of Marco Rose's side: "I'm a very physical player. I'm a very fast player who likes to run up and down the wings. I have good technical ability on the ball."
