Fare thee well, Omar Marmoush: the Eintracht Frankfurt forward, who lit up the Bundesliga with his insatiable thirst for goals and assists, is on his way to Manchester City after bidding an emotional auf Wiedersehen at Deutsche Bank Park.

The Egyptian magician certainly left a mark on his time in Germany's top flight and, in particular, with Eintracht, for whom his all-star performances have helped the team from Mainhatten to challenge at the top of the standings this term

"It wasn't only him who had tears in his eyes," Frankfurt coach Dino Toppmöller told bundesliga.com after the Egyptian striker took to the field following the Eagles' Matchday 18 triumph against Borussia Dortmund to say goodbye to teammates and fans.

"When you saw what happened after the game with the supporters and all the team [there for Marmoush's on-field farewell], there are no more words needed. I'm really proud of all of the team, of the payers and the supporters for the way they expressed how they feel [for Omar]."

That feeling was clearly mutual for a player who found his groove at Eintracht after spells at Wolfsburg, St. Pauli and VfB Stuttgart. He departs Frankfurt having scored 37 goals and provided 20 assists in 67 games in all competitions.

After an explosive first season at Die Adler last year - in which he managed 18 goal involvements in 29 Bundesliga games to help his side to a European finish - Marmoush continued where he left off into the 2024/25 campaign. Indeed, the Egyptian heads for England as the Bundesliga's top assist provider (nine) and second-highest goalscorer (15), just behind Bayern Munich's Harry Kane.

"As a kid I had a dream and my dream was always to become a professional football player," Marmoush once said. It was in the Bundesliga that Eintracht's former No. 7 fulfilled his ambitions, making his senior professional debut as an 18-year-old with Wolfsburg.

His goals tally stands at 35 in Germany's top tier and, should he carry his current form into his new career at Manchester City, Pep Guardiola's side will no doubt experience an upturn in fortunes for the remainder of the season.

"From the bottom of our hearts we wish him success, because he deserves it," Toppmöller added. "He is such a good person and such a good player and everybody is happy for him."

For the departing Marmoush, the philosophy will remain the same: "Scoring goals, making assists or having a nice game and feeling that atmosphere around you - this is what we live for," he once said. Fans of Eintracht won't soon forget the time they lived to celebrate Marmoush's electric performances.
