Bayern dominated possession from the start, with Frankfurt content to sit deep and hit on the counter. The visitors' pressure paid off in the 15th minute, when Thomas Müller set Minjae Kim up to sweep home after a well-executed corner routine but, despite Bayern’s control, Frankfurt equalised just minutes later. Bundesliga top scorer Omar Marmoush, played through by a brilliant pass from Ansgar Knauff, showed all his quality to level it.

Frankfurt grew in confidence and even went ahead in the 35th minute, Marmoush turning provider for partner in crime Hugo Ekitiké's well-taken goal. However, it was then Bayern's turn for a quick reply, Dayot Upamecano poking in after a corner scramble not three minutes later to level it at 2-2 just before the break.

The second half saw Bayern regain control, and they pulled ahead once again as early as the 53rd minute, when Michael Olise curled one in from a Harry Kane assist. Bayern pressed for another goal, with Kingsley Coman testing Frankfurt’s acrobatic keeper Kauã Santos with a powerful shot. Just when it seemed that Bayern would hold on for the win that would take them top of the table, substitute Éric Dina Ebimbe risked life and limb to head a through-pass for Marmoush. The eight-goal Egyptian once again proved utterly clinical and levelled the match deep into injury time, with Frankfurt holding on to earn a point in a thrilling Bundesliga encounter filled with drama.
