RB Leipzig sign US midfielder Caden Clark from New York Red Bulls
RB Leipzig have signed 18-year-old American midfielder Caden Clark from New York Red Bulls on a three-year contract.
The attacking midfielder will remain in the USA initially, on loan at the Major League Soccer club until the end of the season on the other side of the Atlantic, before linking up with his new club in the Bundesliga.
"Caden Clark has fantastic ability and huge potential," said Christopher Vivell, Leipzig's technical director. "He can play any position across the attacking midfield and has an incredibly versatile game. Furthermore, his goalscoring threat, pass quality and strong shooting technique – which has seen him score repeatedly from long range – really stand out.
"He therefore fits perfectly in our game philosophy and will now gather more match practice in MLS with a view to furthering his career with us."
After spells at Minnesota Thunder and in the Barca Residency Academy in Arizona, Clark moved to New York in February 2020, making his first appearances in their second team. He made the breakthrough in their MLS team last October, scoring the winning goal on his debut against Atalanta United on 11 October 2020.
Clark has been a regular for the Red Bulls this season, starting all eight games so far and scoring four goals, with one assist.
