In the 83rd minute, substitute Mert Kömür, who had been brought on in the 70th minute, unleashed a stunning volley from Giannoulis's cross, beating Nikola Vasilj at his near post. It was Augsburg's first shot on target in the entire match, but it couldn't have been more crucial. The goal energised the visitors, who pushed for a winner in the closing stages, but St. Pauli's defence held firm to hang onto a point.
