Having lost the UEFA Champions League showpiece to Bayern Munich just two months prior, Jürgen Klopp's Borussia Dortmund side were out for revenge against the new look champions under Pep Guardiola.

Dortmund captain Marco Reus opened the scoring early, capitalising on a mistake by Bayern goalkeeper Tom Starke, who replaced an injured Manuel Neuer. The home side kept their lead until just after the break when Arjen Robben found the equaliser. But the black-and-yellows, playing in front of their home crowd, responded almost immediately with two goals inside two minutes.
Firstly, Daniel Van Buyten deflected a cross into his own net, before Ilkay Gündogan curled the ball past Starke from the edge of the box. After Robben's second of the match, Bayern piled on the pressure in search of a second leveller, but it was Reus once again who sealed the victory for BVB four minutes from time. Bayern still had a great 2013/14 season under Guardiola, winning the Bundesliga title and the DFB Cup.
