Youri Regeer joins Werder Bremen in Ajax loan
Werder Bremen have completed the loan signing of Ajax midfielder Youri Regeer, after Jens Stage was ruled out for several months with a thigh injury.
Regeer joins Bremen having developed in Ajax's fabled youth ranks before joining fellow Dutch outfit Twente between 2023 and 2025 and then re-signing for the Amsterdam club. The season-long loan agreement includes an option to buy.
"We've been keeping an eye on Youri for some time, so we're delighted that the opportunity has now come up to bring him to Werder," said Bremen's head of professional football Peter Niemeyer. "He's a very versatile player who is strong defensively, which gives us additional tactical options."
Head coach Daniel Thioune added: "I saw Youri play live this summer and was impressed by what I saw. He's a well-rounded player who operates mainly in central midfield and reads the game well. He made more than 30 appearances for Ajax in the league and in Europe last season and will add further quality to our squad."
Regeer was drafted in shortly after Bremen's central midfield regular, Stage, was ruled out for months with a thigh injury sustained in training. The 23-year-old could make his Bundesliga debut when Werder host RB Leipzig on Saturday looking to bounce back from a 4-1 defeat to Freiburg.
"I had some really good conversations with the club," Regeer explained. "Bremen is a big club and the Bundesliga is one of the best leagues in the world. I’m looking forward to what’s ahead and, above all, to getting to know the team and the fans."
