DOUBLE CHANGE

Solid shift from Churlinov in the absence of top scorer Simon Terodde. The home fans show their appreciation as he makes way. Aydin's also on for the final few minutes.
90'

WIDE!

Dadashov on the slide, but he pokes Zalazar's cross past the upright. Nuremberg are spent. What an introduction that would have been!

THE TABLE

Bremen still lead 2-1 in the day's other game, so Schalke will climb above Regensburg into third - overnight at least.
85'

GAME, SET AND MATCH

That should be that for Schalke. Zalazar whips an awkward one in at Mathenia from the edge the box. The keeper doesn't deal with it, and there's Churlinov to finish from inside the six-yard area.

POSITIVE CHANGE

Valentini can't continue. Robert Klauß uses the opportunity to make an attacking change, with former Hertha Berlin striker Pascal Köpke on for the final 13 minutes or so.
74'

MAN DOWN

Valentini goes down clutching his face after being caught by a stray Mathenia elbow. The medical team's on to attend to the Nuremberg defender.
73'

END TO END

Geis warms the palms of Fraisl, who immediately looks to turn defence into attack. Mathenia comes racing out to head clear before Churlinov can get a foot on the ball, though. The game's opening up...

SAFE HANDS

Pieringer finds the head of Flick, who heads straight at Mathenia with his first real action since joining the fray.
69'

CHANGES

The subdued Shuranov makes way for Borkowski, while Flick replaces the impressive Idrizi.
66'

SCHALKE BACK IN FRONT!

Nothing Mathenia can do about this. Idrizi fires goalwards after Nuremberg only half clear a corner. Schäffler, who made the initial clearance, tries to get his head in the way but succeeds only in wrong-footing his goalkeeper. Strong header - just at the wrong end.

TURNAROUND

It's Nuremberg asking all the questions of Schalke, while Bremen now lead down in Regensburg.
55'

A-FRASIL

Another wobble from Fraisl presents Nuremberg with a sight of goal, but the flag goes up for an offside. The Austrian kept four clean sheets in his first four Bundesliga 2 games, but has been beaten at least once in six since.
49'

NUREMBERG HIT BACK!

Schalke switch off from a free-kick as Valentini sweeps a ball into the danger zone. Schäffler helps it on for Nürnberger, who smashes into the top corner from seven yards. Game on!

HALF-TIME! SCHALKE 1-0 NUREMBERG

The Royal Blues lead thanks to Thomas Ouwejan's third goal for the club, but Nuremberg will feel aggrieved to have had an equaliser chalked off. All to play for, and in Regensburg, where Bremen have levelled going into the break.

KRAUß CROCKED

Taylan Duman's on for Tom Krauß, who just took a blow to his hip.
42'

NEARLY!

Ouwejan whips over a corner. Palsson meets it, but heads just wide of the far post.
36'

DISALLOWED GOAL!

Nuremberg have the ball in the net, but it won't count. Having forced the initial save from Fraisl, Nürnberger is adjudged to be offside as Schäffler thrashes home on the follow-up. No VAR check - Nuremberg are not happy.

HUGE CHANCE!

Fraisl plays the ball straight to Möller Daehli. The former Man Utd youth player has the entire goal to aim at from 16 yards, but fires his shot too close to the Schalke No.1, who beats it behind for a corner.
31'

WOODWORK AGAIN!

Schalke capitalise on a mistake by Sorensen. Ouwejan finds Idrizi, whose shot from inside the box is parried by Mathenia, with Ranftl sending the rebound against the woodwork. Nuremberg living very dangerously...

SCHALKE LEAD!

That miss proves costly as Schalke forge ahead with their next attack. Churlinov gets away from Valentini and Sörensen in the box, before forcing Mathenia to parry. The angle's tight, but Ouwejan is able to squeeze the loose ball home from six yards.

NUREMBERG FINDING THEIR FEET

Much better from the visitors in the last few minutes. They're getting the ball out wide and into the feet of top scorer Shuranov.
8'

NO PENALTY

Zalazar goes to ground in the box under a challenge from Geis, but the referee is unmoved. Nuremberg need to get a grip on proceedings - not the opposition players.

Regensburg lead Bremen through Steve Breitkreuz. They'll climb back up to second with three points.

The Royal Blues dropped down to eighth in the standings with their reverse against St. Pauli, although they remain just three points behind second-placed Darmstadt.

FORM

Schalke come into this game licking their wounds after losing 2-1 to St. Pauli last week. That result was their third league defeat in their last five, with just one win across that period. Nuremberg are similarly off colour, with two wins and three losses in their five most recent league outings.

See how Nuremberg moved up to fifth in the table last week with victory over Holstein Kiel.

TEAM NEWS - SCHALKE

The Royal Blues have made three changes following their Matchday 16 reverse against St. Pauli. Blendi Idrizi and Darko Churlinov are both given rare starts, while Reinhold Ranftl gets the nod at right wing-back ahead of Can Aydin.

SCHALKE DEPLETED

The Royal Blues are without the majority of their first-choice attacking line-up. Simon Terodde and Marius Bülter were already sidelined, and they were joined in the treatment room today by Dominick Drexler, while team captain Danny Latza also misses out.

TEAM NEWS - NUREMBERG

Nuremberg boss Robert Klauß has made one change to the side that beat Holstein Kiel 2-1 last week, with Fabian Nürnberger making his first start since the beginning of October as a replacement for the suspended Lino Tempelmann. Nürnberger has made five starts so far this season, and his side went unbeaten in each of those.

FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING

While these teams have faced each other 67 times previously, this is the very first encounter in Bundesliga 2. Schalke do have the upper hand historically, with 31 wins to Nuremberg's 20 (16 draws), while they have emerged victorious in nine of the last 10 home meetings in all competitions, drawing the other.
