Full-time: Schalke 0-3 Kaiserslautern

Kaiserslautern wins convincingly at Schalke and climbs to second place. The visitors made much better use of the chances they had and deservedly win here. Schalke never really got into the game and didn't create any real threat in either half.

Take Two

That could be it!

Hanslik plays a one-two with Kaloc and then pokes the ball into the path of the Japanese player, who keeps his cool in front of Heekeren and smashes it into the back of the net. What a goal!

Half-time: Schalke 0-1 Kaiserslautern

The match is slowly picking up pace. Ache scored for Lautern and Schalke are too passive. He also could have easily made it 2-0. To be safe, Lautern need to do a bit more in the second half, as Schalke are gaining momentum.

Ping-Pong!

Bulut spots Bachmann in the middle, Krahl manages to punch the ball away in front of him, but hits Brachmann in the process, causing the ball to roll just wide of the goal.

Added time

Three minutes of additional time.

Huge blow for the visitors

A substitution will be made due to injury, and it's goalscorer Ache. After an incident in midfield, he's holding his ankle. Redondo will now lead the attack in his place.
41'

Should be 2-0!

Ache connects with a cross first time. Heekeren is positioned perfectly and just manages to smother the ball. Either side and Schalke would have been in huge trouble.
38'

Sloppy

Schalke have been playing the ball around at the back for a while now, but they've just lost possession. Yokota reacts quickest, dribbles to the byline and then plays a low cross in front of goal, straight into the arms of Heekeren.
35'

Less aggressive

After Lautern took control at the start, they are now allowing Schalke to come at them. So far, however, this has not gone beyond the build-up play of the Blue and Whites.

Ache's goal in the twelfth minute was the earliest season goal for the Palatinate side.

No way through

Schalke continues to try to play through the red midfield - still without success. Bulut wants to send Bachmann through on goal, but the ball doesn't make it that far.
26'

Kleinhansl close!

As there's not much success through combination play, the Lautern player tries from distance. It was very close to the goal, Heekeren wouldn't have had a chance!
25'

Bulut too central

Murkin makes his way forward and tries to find a man in the middle. The ball sails through the entire penalty area, where Bulut stands at the end and attempts a first-time shot: No problem for Krahl.
24'

Another wasted free kick

Already the second set-piece Schalke have been given near their opponent's box. Younes' crosses have not been successful so far.
22'

Little action apart from the goal

Uneventful aptly describes the first 25 minutes or so - apart from the goal, neither side created any real danger in front of the net.

Ache again dangerous

Yokota quickly plays the ball to the striker, who can't get past Kalas and loses possession.

Lautern take the lead!

Football can be so simple. Hanslik plays the ball to Kaloc on the touchline, who delivers a low and precise cross in front of goal. Top scorer Ache calmly collects it and slots it home. The first chance of the match goes straight in.

Bachmann dangerous!

Younes plays a picture-perfect pass to Sylla, who immediately lays it off to Bachmann. The striker doesn't connect properly with the ball and pushes it wide just in front of the goal.
8'

Little momentum

In the first ten minutes or so, nothing noteworthy happened in front of either goal. Schalke and Kaiserslautern are feeling each other out.

Ache offside

Kaloc sends the striker through with a sharp pass, but he's narrowly offside before things got dangerous.

Yokota beats Murkin on the right and then crosses into no man's land. Ache could have been positioned closer to goal.

More on those teams

Kees van Wonderen makes one change to his team following the 2-2 draw in Hamburg: centre-back Tomas Kalas starts in place of midfielder Paul Seguin, which likely means Ron Schallenberg, who played in central defence last week, will move back into midfield. There is also only one change for the visitors compared to last week. After serving his suspension for yellow cards, Boris Tomiak is back in defence instead of Touré.

Kaiserslautern starting XI

Krahl - Tomiak, Sirch, Elvedi - Kleinhansl, Aremu, Ronstadt - Kaloc, Yokota - Ache, Hanslik

This is how S04 lines up

Heekeren - Murkin, Kamiński, Kalas, Bulut - Schallenberg, Grüger - Younes, Bachmann, Sylla - Karaman

Anfang on facing Schalke

"It's important for us to focus on ourselves and our processes, and to implement our game plan. If we manage to do that - and I assume we will - then we'll also put in a good performance at Schalke."

Van Wonderen on facing Kaiserslautern

"We played with a lot of energy in Hamburg in the second half. That was a good team performance both in terms of football and off the ball. We need to continue on this path."

Former Kaiserslautern player Younes

Amin Younes played for Layern in the 2014/15 season and scored two goals in 14 second division matches.

Former Schalke player Anfang

Kaiserslautern coach Markus Anfang played for Schalke in the 1997/98 season, but only made three Bundesliga appearances.

Even head-to-head

The Bundesliga head-to-head record between both teams is perfectly balanced: out of 78 encounters, they have each won 28. This is only their third meeting in Bundesliga 2.

Flashback

Last season, this fixture saw clear home victories in both matches (3-0 for Schalke and 4-1 for Lautern).

Great history

Schalke (seven-time champions, five-time cup winners) and Kaiserslautern (four-time champions, two-time cup winners) have won 11 championships and seven DFB Cup titles between them. The Royal Blues even defeated the Red Devils 5-0 in the 1972 cup final.
