The decisive moment!

Pfeiffer is played in on the left flank and sends in a low cross for Schleusener, who produces a deft finish from close range. That makes it 4-2 - perhaps the decisive moment in a wild match.

The final 15

Crunch time is approaching in Karlsruhe. Can they hold on for the comeback victory? It would be the fourth time this season they've turned around a deficit, which would be the highest tally in the league.
74'

Yellow card for Pfeiffer

In an attempt to poke the ball into the goal, he steps on Breunig's foot and is cautioned for it.
73'

Too central

Another attempt from Regensburg: Hottmann manages to hold off three Karlsruhe players and tries a shot from a half-right position, which lands directly in the arms of Weiß.

Back in Control

After spending a brief phase on the back foot at the start of the second half, KSC are now dominating the match again. Burnić gets a good shot off, but it is blocked.

The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals> xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals> goals).
The expected goals are roughly in line with the actual goals scored.

Unusual

For only the second time this season, Regensburg have managed to score two goals in a single match. Previously, this had only occurred during the 3-8 defeat to Nürnberg on Matchday 10.

Jahn with momentum

After Regensburg took the lead again, it's a different game. Viet tries a long-range effort and hits it well, but it goes mere centimetres wide of the right post.

Regensburg back in front!

Half-time: Karlsruhe 1-1 Regensburg

It has been a rather one-sided match so far, but Karlsruhe fell behind despite their dominance and only got their leveller just before the break. The second half should offer more excitement, especially if Jahn can do better than the occasional, but rather harmless, forays forward they showed in the first term.

Equaliser just before the break!

Regensburg have a costly loss of possession in build-up play seconds before the half-time whistle. Under no pressure at all, Ziegele miscues a pass, which Jensen intercepts and immediately plays forward to Zivzivadze at the front. Unselfishly, the Georgian lays it off to Schleusener, who is denied by Gebhardt, but Zivzivadze heads in the rebound. An overdue goal!

Added time

41'

Ball loss without consequence

Karlsruhe lose the ball in their build-up play, and Pröger shoots somewhat hastily from a good 20 metres out, sending it well wide of the goal.
39'

Setting Up

KSC are waiting for an opening in Jahn's defence. The ball is moving from left to right and back to the left around the visitors' penalty area. Will there be an equaliser before the half-time whistle?
35'

Ping-pong in the penalty area

You take it, I've got it! Zivzivadze wants to burst forward but leaves the ball for Beifus, who has made the run forward. The latter thinks the opposite, and so a Regensburg player clears it into one of his own teammates, from where it somehow falls to Gebhardt.

So close!

Karlsruhe are pushing for the equaliser: Jung shoots once again from outside the box, Schleusener gets a touch on it and deflects the ball just over the crossbar. That was close!
26'

How will KSC respond?

The hosts were clearly dominating the game before the penalty - Regensburg's lead came against the run of play.
22'

Off the mark!

That was Christian Kühlwetter's first goal of the season - and his first for Jahn.
21'

Yellow card for the bench

There are complaints, probably due to the retaken penalty, for which Bajramovic from the coaching staff is cautioned.
19'

Kühlwetter steps up instead of Huth and scores to make it 1-0 for the visitors! While Weiß is moving to the left, the striker calmly slots it into the middle.

Regensburg makes their presence felt

The visitors get their first chance after nearly 15 minutes: Pröger beats Herold on the right, nearthe corner flag, and crosses. Huth doesn't get enough power behind his header and Weiß can collect it fairly comfortably, though it was well-placed.
12'

More and more pressure

Now KSC are really in the game: Zivzivadze manages to win a challenge and speeds up the play himself. However, one of his touches is not optimal, and the ball, along with the striker, is pushed slightly wide, and he sends a fairly optimistic pass into the centre. No one is there to receive it.
10'

Gebhardt to the rescue!

The best chance of the match so far: Wanitzek advances on the left and curls a shot towards the far post. Jahn keeper Gebhardt stretches and just manages to get a crucial touch on it.
9'

Attempted speed injection

Burnić looks to play a one-two with Jung on the touchline, but the right-back's pass lacks precision and so the initially promising attacking attempt fizzles out.
6'

Karlsruhe kick off

Wanitzek attempts a through-ball to Schleusener, but Bulic clears before it can reache its target. The throw-in goes to Jung, who tries a long-range effort: Gebhardt manages to clear it for a corner.
3'

Painful

Right from the start, it's getting rough in midfield. Geipl receives a kick to the foot and needs brief treatment.

Rare opportunity

Elias Huth has been handed a Bundesliga 2 start for only the second time this season. His only previous start came on Matchday 11, when Jahn celebrated the more recent of their two wins of the season so far, against Elversberg (1-0 at home). Perhaps Huth will bring luck again today.

Jahn's Hottmann hoodoo

Eric Hottmann is in the starting XI for the fourth time this season (most recently on Matchday 12 in the 2-0 loss away to Schalke). Jahn are yet to earn any points this season when Hottmann has started.

Three changes for Jahn

For Regensburg, there are three changes to the starting lineup compared to the 0-1 defeat against Köln: Geipl, Hottmann and Huth play for Wurm, Ochojski (both not in the squad) and Kother (bench).

Two KSC changes

Compared to the defeat in Kaiserslautern, there are two changes in Karlsruhe's starting line-up: Marcel Beifus and Dzenis Burnic start in place of Enes Zengin (on the bench) and Bambase Conte (not in the squad).

Regensburg starting XI

Gebhardt - Breunig, Bulic, Hein - Viet, Huth, Geipl, Ziegele - Hottmann, Pröger - Kühlwetter

Karlsruhe starting XI

Weiß - Herold, Franke, Beifus, Jung - Wanitzek, Jensen, Rapp, Burnić - Zivzivadze, Schleusener

Andreas Patz on facing Karslruhe

"KSC bring a lot of experience and individual class. They often attack from the wings, deliver many crosses and have a strong presence in the box. With Zivzivadze and Schleusener, they obviously have a lot of quality there. On the left side, they also have Wanitzek, a player who brings a high level of individual skill. We need to be well-prepared for that. We have analysed the team, but our focus is on ourselves and how we want to perform there."

Christian Eichner on facing Regensburg

"We want to secure a place in the top nine. To do that, we need to improve individually in defence. Even though Regensburg are in last place, we must be extremely vigilant."

A good omen

Karlsruhe midfielder Dženis Burnić hasn't lost in any of his seven matches against Regensburg (five wins, two draws with Dresden and Heidenheim, all in the Bundesliga 2).

Fond memories

In 2012, Regensburg, then coached by Markus Weinzierl, clinched promotion to the Bundesliga 2 in Karlsruhe. The two sides met in the relegation play-off, and Regensburg's 1-1 draw at home followed by a 2-2 draw in the away leg (where they finished with only nine men after receiving two red cards) was enough to secure promotion.

History made in 22/23

Karlsruhe's 6-0 victory in this fixture in the first half of the 2022/23 season was historic, as it was their biggest away win in the Bundesliga 2, and Regensburg's heaviest home defeat in the German second division.

Recent results

Karlsruhe are unbeaten in their last five competitive matches against Regensburg (three draws, but most recently two victories to nil in the 2022/23 season).
