Two changes for Hamburg
HSV coach Merlin Polzin makes two changes to his starting lineup compared to the 2-2 home draw with Darmstadt: Silvan Hefti and Davie Selke start in place of William Mikelbrencis and Ransdorf-Yeboah Königsdörffer (both on the bench).
Five changes for Ulm
Sparrows manager Thomas Wörle makes five changes to his starting lineup compared to the 3-2 defeat in Hannover: Ortag, Kolbe, Strompf, Brandt and Chessa come in for Thiede, Allgeier, Gaal (all on the bench), Hyryläinen and Meier (both not in the squad).
Thomas Wörle on facing HSV
"I have the conviction that we can win this match, I believe that's the top priority. We've travelled there, prepared well during the week and want to win the game. We don't want to make any excuses, regardless of the opponent. Like HSV, our ambition is to want to win every match we enter."
Merlin Polzin on facing Ulm
"The team has developed well under Thomas Wörle. They have grown together over the years and have consistently managed to cause problems for their opponents. They concede extremely few goals and are known for a certain physicality. We are preparing for this and looking at what we can work on tactically with our team."
Familiar opposition
Current Ulm first-team squad members Lucas Röser (twice with Dresden), Jonathan Meier (twice with Rostock), Philipp Strompf (once with Braunschweig) and Niklas Castelle (once with Schalke) have all played against Hamburg in the Bundesliga 2 - they are all yet to pick up any points against the Rothosen.
Late drama on the road
In their only away match in Ulm to date, Hamburg turned around a 1-0 deficit with two late goals on 2 October 1999. Goals from Nico Jan Hoogma (87') and Anthony Yeboah (90'+2) snatched victory for the Rothosen.
A long time coming
Ulm and HSV have only met in competitive matches during the 1999/2000 Bundesliga season - both teams won 2-1 at each other's grounds.
