Full-time: Jahn 0-1 Hannover
Hannover narrowly, but deservedly, prevail over Jahn Regensburg. Ngankam scored the only goal of the evening, while the hosts remained without a goal despite hitting the post twice and showing positive spells of attacking play. Regensburg failed to break through Hannover's solid defence and struggled with their own chance conversion, while the visitors allowed little danger in the second half as well. Breitenreiter's debut is thus a successful one.

Added time
Four minutes of additional time. What can still happen here?

Off the woodwork again!
Ananou delivers the ball straightforwardly from the right in towards the near post, where the substitute Ganaus is ready to shoot, but once again the ball rattles the woodwork.
86'
Free-kick for the hosts
It's well-taken, but Bulic's header goes well wide of the goal.
85'
Not incisive enough from Jahn
New year, but still no new offensive power - only five shots at goal from Regensburg. That's the fewest they've had in a home match this season.
82'
Another substitution
Nielsen goes down after a challenge and appears to have cramp. He can't run it off and he's substituted. New signing Tomiak comes on for him.
78'
Zieler uncertain
Ernst beats several opponents and delivers a high cross from the left towards the far post. Zieler backpedals and only manages to secure the ball on his second attempt.
77'
Poor decision making
Ziegele plays a long ball instead of calmly building up the play. As a result, Hannover are now back in possession.

Double substitution
Two changes for the hosts. Can Jahn turn the tide this way?
67'
Will they keep a clean sheet?
This may be Hannover's eighth match without conceding a goal this season - no other team has managed it as of yet.

First substitution for the away team
Momuluh is now working the right flank.
62'
Two corners
After a corner from the right, it gets scrappy. Ngankam receives the ball, delays well, and shoots from a central position in the penalty area, but a Regensburg player throws himself in front of the shot and deflects it behind for another corner. The home side do manage to clear this one, though.
59'
Jahn looking more aggressive
Hannover currently can't break free, and their attempt to play quickly after winning the ball doesn't succeed as Bulic is more proactive in challenging for the ball than his opponent.
56'
Misunderstanding
A mix-up between Hottmann and Ananou results in Hottmann's pass ending up in touch. Nevertheless, Regensburg are growing in confidence a bit more pressure now!
54'
Gebhardt switched on
Hannover counter straight away. Ngankam is through on goal again, but he can't quite get on the end of the long ball, because Gebhardt comes out of his box and is on the spot. There was much more potential in that!
52'
Close from Adamyan
After a through ball, Kühlwetter holds off Leopold and lays it back to Adamyan, whose first-time shot goes narrowly wide of the left post. He didn't strike the ball perfectly.
50'
Regensburg needs a first
Jahn are trailing at half-time for the eleventh time this season. So far, this has always resulted in defeat.
48'
Gebhardt in the right position
Nielsen cleverly flicks the ball on with his heel to Lee, but his shot from a tight angle off the right lacks power
and Gebhardt secures the ball comfortably.
47'
Ngankam trying to cause problems
The goalscorer wins a 50-50 challenge at the halfway line and tries to turn left. However, the ball has even more pace than him and rolls out for a throw-in.
46'
We're back underway!
Regensburg kick off the second half. Andreas Patz brings on Ananou to freshen up the midfield.

Half-time: Regensburg 0-1 Hannover
Hannover are narrowly ahead at Regensburg at the break. Ngankam scored after a free-kick was flicked on by Lee. It was Lee's first assist, which is ironic as it came via a header from Hannover's shortest player. Jahn had their chances, including a shot off the post by Hottmann, but lacked that cutting edge.

Almost a carbon copy
Now Jahn takes a free-kick from in off the right. Viet flicks it on with his head at the edge of the penalty area, but Adamyan can't reach the ball in the six-yard box because Zieler is there. Hempel signals for offside. Nevertheless, it's a very similar situation to what led to the visitors' opening goal.
43'
Fourth goal of the season
With four goals, Ngankam has already matched his personal best for a season at the professional level. He also scored four times in the 2022/23 Bundesliga season for Hertha.
41'
Another attempt
Ngankam shows his teammate how it's done. He shoots from the right corner of the penalty area, but his shot goes about a metre wide of the left post.
40'
A tame effort
Nielsen has space on the right, but his attempt at a shot is more like a clean pass into Gebhardt's arms.
39'
Goal number 40 conceded
For Regensburg, it was the 40th goal conceded this season - the highest in the league.
37'
Hannover back amongst the goals
After 223 goalless minutes, the side from Lower Saxony score again. Their last goal was netted by Nicolò Tresoldi on 7 December in their 3-2 victory over Ulm.
35'
Ngankam opens the scoring!
And it comes from a free-kick from in off the right flank. Leopold delivers the ball into the penalty area, Lee flicks it on, and Ngankam, stood in the six-yard box, finishes with the inside of his right foot, low into the net. 1-0 to the visitors!
32'
Good thinking
Adamyan tries to thread a through ball to the right flank. Hottmann would have been clear through, but Hannover's defence is alert to the danger.
30'
Counter-attack for the visitors
Hannover don't make the most of it with Lee squandering possession. Jahn are given the chance to build their play again.
30'
Play resumes
Geipl is able to continue, the match is back underway.
27'
Brief interlude
In addition to a smattering of clear-cut chances, there have been even more fouls (eleven). Nielsen just knocked down Geipl. The Regensburg player needs treatment, and the match is briefly paused.

Adamyan through on goal!
What a beautiful ball from the last Regensburg defensive line to the sprinting Adamyan, who runs into the penalty area and actually has plenty of time, but fails to guide the ball around Zieler!
19'
Neumann goes close
Leopold delivers a free-kick from in off the right, curling it towards Neumann's head, who tries to guide it into the right corner, but Gebhardt stretches to deflect the ball around the right post.
15'
Trading attacks
Now Hannover is on the move in the opposition half again A nice chip finds Nielsen, but the Norwegian's chest control is too heavy and Regensburg clear the situation.
13'
Off the woodwork!
Jahn presses high again and gains possession through Adamyan's good challenge. Hottmann turns on the right and shoots from the edge of the penalty area, but his strike hits the woodwork.
12'
Hannover into the penalty area
Ngankam holds onto the ball well on the left touchline and after a few passes, the ball ends up back with the striker, who wants to shoot, but referee Hempel spots another infringement and blows his whistle.
9'
Similar position as before
Once again, a Regensburg player is fouled. Geipl sets up the ball from just under 20 metres but Hannover's defence clears it for a corner. The corner comes to nothing.
7'
First attempt!
A cross from the right by Muroya finds Nielsen at the far post but Gebhardt plucks his looping header out of the air.
6'
Warning for Regensburg
After a free-kick from their own half, Hannover look to move quickly, but Jahn are alert to the danger and clear the ball into touch. The visitors remain in possession.
5'
Hannover going forward
Jahn are pressing high in the opening minutes, with Suhonen wanting to disrupt the visitors' build-up quickly, but the visitors maintain possession. Now the hosts are dropping back a bit.
2'
First Foul
Suhonen is surrounded by several opponents in midfield and goes down, resulting in the first free-kick for the home side from about 20 metres out. However, Hannover are quickly given a free-kick themselves for an offensive foul from Jahn after their free-kick is taken.
1'
Kick-off!
The second half of the Bundesliga 2 season is underway! The visitors from Hannover kick off.
キックオフ
Both can climb
With a win, Hannover would jump to second place, for at least one night. Victory for Jahn could haul themselves off the bottom. The last time Regensburg wasn't bottom after a completed matchday was in mid-September.
Adamyan a beacon of hope
The Armenian once had his best time at Jahn, being one of the outstanding players in the Bundesliga 2 in 2018/19 with 26 goal contributions. Adamyan moved up to the Bundesliga, managing ten goals in 90 top-flight matches for Hoffenheim and Cologne. In the current season, he has played only a minor role at Cologne (making six substitute appearances and scoring no goals).
Tomiak in the squad
Signed yesterday and already in the squad today is Boris Tomiak, a new signing from Kaiserslautern, who's on the bench for Hannover. The other winter acquisition, Kenneth Schmidt (from Freiburg), is not in the squad.
Two new players start for Jahn
Andreas Patz trusts nine positions from the eleven that celebrated a 2-1 victory against Darmstadt in the last match of the first half of the season. New to the team are winter transfers Sargis Adamyan and Anssi Suhonen. Curiously for the Finn: Suhonen has scored twice in 48 Bundesliga 2 matches so far, both times against Regensburg (for Hamburg).
Neumann starts
After serving his yellow card suspension in the last match of 2024, Phil Neumann is back on the pitch for Hannover today. Ngankam and Rochelt also start, with the latter getting his first chance in the starting XI since Matchday 12.
Breitenreiter reshuffling
In his last match in the Bundesliga 2, André Breitenreiter celebrated promotion as Hannover coach in Sandhausen in May 2017. Now he's back at the helm and makes four changes for his comeback. Some are out as a necessity, with Christiansen replacing Fabian Kunze, who is suspended due to a second yellow card.
Hannover starting XI
Zieler - Muroya, Neumann, Halstenberg, Wdowik - Leopold, Christiansen - Lee, Rochelt - Ngankam, Nielsen
Jahn starting XI
Gebhardt - Ziegele, Bulic, Breunig - Viet, Geipl, Hein - Kühlwetter, Suhonen - Hottmann, Adamyan
André Breitenreiter on Regensburg
"The anticipation for this match is huge. We all enjoy training, but we love playing even more. The team has been diligent. They work together very cohesively. All of this gives us a positive feeling."
Andreas Patz on Hannover
"Hannover 96 is a team with a lot of experience and quality, who are only four points off the top. The change of manager therefore underlines their ambitions once again and hasn't made our preparation any easier. However, we've seen their friendly matches and are prepared for anything. We now have a home game against a strong opponent, under floodlights and with a great atmosphere. We're looking forward to getting started again."
Breitenreiter's return
André Breitenreiter previously managed Hannover between 2017 and 2019. The 51 year old returns now after the somewhat surprising dismissal of Stefan Leitl. Breitenreister's mission is clear: take Hannover back the Bundesliga.
Home advantage
Regensburg have not lost any of their last four home matches against Hannover, winning twice and drawing twice.
Travel trouble
In the nine Bundesliga 2 encounters between these two, the away side has never won (five home victories, four draws).
