Two new faces for the Sparrows
Following the 3-1 victory against Braunschweig last weekend, goalkeeper Niclas Thiede and Lennart Stoll are brought into the starting line-up, replacing Christian Ortag, who is out due to a broken collarbone, and Bastian Allgeier (not in the squad).
Finkgräfe makes comeback
The left-back makes his first appearance this season after a medial collateral ligament strain, although likely in an unfamiliar role at right-back, where he replaces Jan Thielmann. That's the only change Gerhard Struber makes compared to the entertaining 4-4 draw against Karlsruhe last matchday.
Ulm starting XI
Thiede - Reichert, Strompf, Kolbe - Stoll, Hyryläinen, Brandt, Rösch - Chessa, Krattenmacher - Higl
Cologne starting XI
Urbig - Finkgräfe, Hübers, Pauli, Paqarada - Martel, Huseinbašić - Lemperle, Maina - Waldschmidt, Downs
Mixed fortunes
That same season saw Ulm promoted to the Bundesliga, whilst Cologne finished intenth.
Undefeated Ulm
1998/99 was the only time the two clubs have met in the same league. They drew twice in the 2nd Bundesliga (1-1 in Cologne and 2-2 in Ulm) - so Ulm is unbeaten against Cologne.
Opponents again - at last!
Cologne and Ulm have only met in three competitive matches before, all of which took place between 1997 and 1999.
Wörle on Cologne:
"A favourite for promotion, traditional club, huge stadium, many fans, a squad with the highest market value: We're dealing with an opponent who appears slightly overpowering on paper. It's a highlight of the season."
Struber on Ulm:
"Ulm has a physically robust team. However, we will stick to our game plan. We respect our opponents and know what they're capable of. But we want to focus on our own game."
