Stafylidis's whipped cross from the left wing goes beyond Niakhate and reaches Finnbogason in front of goal, but his shot at goal is superbly saved by the right hand of Müller to deny the Icelandic striker a first half hat-trick.

Augsburg's defence is providing plenty of worry for Jean-Phillipe Mateta and the Mainz attack so far. Only one attempt on goal in the opening half an hour, with their top scoring French forward hardly involved at all.

With a win today, Sandro Schwarz's side could rise as high as seventh in the table should they do so by four or more goals. They currently sit 11th in the table, twelve points ahead of Augsburg who sit just one point above the relegation play-off spot.
