MATETA THE SAVIOUR

That late goal was Mateta's 13th of the season and Mainz are still unbeaten in all ten games in which the France U21 international has scored this term (W7, D3). He also became the first Frenchman to hit 13 goals in his maiden Bundesliga season. It's some feat.

SPOILS SHARED

A cracking game comes to an end, the score 3-3 in Mainz with the hosts twice recovering from two goals down to equalise. Klostermann (2) and Werner - who laid on both goals for Klostermann - were on target for Leipzig, while Onisiwo, Niakhate and Mateta all registered for Mainz. Neither side moves anywhere in the table but the result ends Leipzig's run of seven consecutive away wins, as well as six straight Bundesliga wins on the bounce.

BEATEN AWAY

Poulsen fires high, hard and on target but straight down the middle and Müller punches the ball clear. Leipzig want that eighth consecutive win but they're running out of time.

THAT MAN MATETA

This guy is remarkable. Found through on goal, Mateta arrows across Gulacsi and into the far corner to make it 3-3. A sublime finish and it's his 13th goal of the season, the most by any Frenchman in their debut Bundesliga campaign. He's also still on course to be unbeaten in every league game he's scored this season.

TEN TO GO

Having gone quiet for half an hour, Leipzig have wrestled ascendancy back their way. Can Mainz grab something from this game or will Leipzig's run continue?

A NEW BUNDESLIGA RECORD?

Leipzig are in pursuit of a record eighth consecutive away victory since the start of the new calendar year but Mainz are pushing hard to end that run now. The hosts have been the better side since Werner's goal.

MAINZ HIT BACK AGAIN

Here we go. A superb outswinging corner from the left sees the ball land at Niakhate's feet and he controls, turns and fires home to make it 3-2. A very well taken goal and Mainz's 10th from set-pieces this season. Game on. Again.

MATETA TO THE RESCUE?

The Mainz top-scorer hasn't had a chance of note yet but has looked lively when they've managed to get the ball up to the big man. They've not done so quite often enough for the Frenchman to make an impact yet, though.
56'

SO CLOSE

Brosinski nearly finds the back of the net but his superb free-kick goes narrowly wide. Gulacsi was well beaten, just watching, hoping the ball would go wide. It did. It's still 3-1 to Leipzig. Mainz may need something special to get back into this. Still plenty of time though.
49'

50 UP FOR WERNER

Leipzig restore their two-goal lead and Werner now has 50 Bundesliga goals for Leipzig. Mainz's defenders are pulled apart and somehow Leipzig have the freedom of their hosts' penalty area. Forsberg squares for Werner and there's no way he's missing from eight yards out.

MAINZ GET US BACK UNDERWAY

And the hosts have made a change. Their goalscorer Onisiwo is replaced by Mateta. You imagine it is a result of that clash of heads earlier on as he had played well otherwise and his finish for his goal was stunning.

LEIPZIG IN FRONT AT THE BREAK

Well, we've been treated to three fine goals in that half and it's Leipzig who have their noses ahead. Just. The hosts have had the majority of the ball but Leipzig were devastating on the counter. It's no surprise these two have never played out a goalless draw and you'd expect more goals in the second-half.
43'

A GREAT TIME TO SCORE

Mainz are back in it just before half-time. Onisiwo has them on the scoresheet with a superb finish. He receives the ball on the edge of the box, holds off Halstenberg, turns and unleashes a fierce left-footed strike beyond Gulacsi. Game on.

OUCH!

Onisiwo and Konate bump heads going for a header and the former comes off worse. Thankfully, the Mainz man looks to be okay and will be fine to continue.

CLINICAL LEIPZIG

Four shots, two on target and two goals. It's a productive rate to be working at and it's put Leipzig 2-0 up with just ten minutes to go before the break.
33'

KLOSTERMANN AT THE DOUBLE

He's at it again! Klostermann is again the furthest forward Leipzig player. He's superbly played in by Werner once more and the finish is sublime as Klostermann lifts the ball over the onrushing Müller. VAR looks at a foul in the build-up but there's no issues.

CAN MAINZ FIND A WAY BACK?

The hosts have had the bulk of possession but haven't quite found their rhythm just yet but they eventually manage to get in behind Lepzig's defence. Brosinski and Onisiwo combine superbly on the right but the final ball can't quite land on its mark. Much better from Mainz.
21'

BACK WITH A BANG

There is that Leipzig counter on full show. They turn the ball over so quickly and release first Poulsen and then Werner in behind the Mainz defence. Werner is so unselfish and lays the ball across goal for a tap-in for Klostermann who's in the centre-forward position. What's he doing there? A great counter-attacking goal.

SET-PIECE THREAT

Mainz have a potent weapon of their own and have scored nine goals from set-pieces this season. They have their first chance to make that 10 but Hack heads Brosinski's free-kick wide.
11'

LEIPZIG COUNTER-PUNCH

Mainz will have to be wary of their guests on the counter tonight and they've had their first warning. Kampl turns over possession quickly, releasing Poulsen and Werner at breakneck speed. They earn a free-kick that comes to nothing but an early sign of the dangers Leipzig pose.
7'

YET TO SETTLE

Both sides are feeling their way into this at the minute. It's very much like the early rounds of a boxing match. We're getting the feet moving before throwing some meaningful jabs.

UP AND RUNNING

Here we go then. Leipzig get us underway in Mainz.

AS IT STANDS

Just a reminder of the lay of the land ahead of tonight's match. Mainz are currently 10th in the Bundesliga table and are safe from relegation. Victory would, for now, move them up one place and to within a point of the top-half. As for Leipzig, they sit third, have guaranteed Champions League football next season and can still mathematically win the league. A win here and they're two points off Dortmund in second and four from leaders Bayern. They couldn't, could they?

MATETA ON THE BENCH

A slight surprise from the hosts that top-scorer Mateta will start from the bench tonight. As we mentioned earlier, he has 12 goals this season and Mainz have never lost when he's scored. They make two further changes from the 1-0 defeat to Hannover last time out with Brosinski and Latza in for Donati and Maxim.

SABITZER RESTED

As for the high-flying visitors, Klostermann comes in to give Sabitzer a well earned break and Forsberg starts having scored the winner in last weekend's 2-1 win over Freiburg. Like in that crucial cameo, he replaces Haidara.

100 AND COUNTING

Tonight's match is the 100th in the Bundesliga for RB Leipzig. They have won an incredible 54 of their 99 top-flight games so far, a record for a club in their first 100 outings in Germany's top-tier. Will they make it 55 wins out of 11 by the end of the evening?

A FOND FAREWELL

In case you missed it this week, Mainz goalkeeper Rene Adler announced that he will call time on a remarkable career at the end of the season that has span 16 years and 269 Bundesliga appearances. His coach Sandro Schwarz paid homage to the soon departing stopper who earned 12 caps for Germany this week, saying; "Rene Adler was a key presence in the dresssing room. He set and example by always being a true professional." We'll miss you, Rene.

RB’S RIDICULOUS RUN-IN

After a bad patch on the road at the end of 2018 - when they lost consecutive away games in Wolfsburg, Freiburg and Munich - Leipzig have been in sensational form in 2019. Rangnick's side have only lost once all year, at home to Dortmund, and come into tonight's game on a 16-game unbeaten run in all competitions (W13, D3). After Mainz they face Bayern Munich and Werder Bremen in the league, before taking on the record champions in their maiden DFB Cup final on Saturday 25 May.

MAGIC MATETA

Jean-Philippe Mateta has been Mainz's star man this season, scoring 12 goals including a recent hat-trick in their 5-0 win over Freiburg. In fact, the 05ers are unbeaten in all nine games in which the France U21 international has scored this term (W7, D2). If the 21-year-old nets again tonight, he'll become the first Frenchman to hit 13 goals in his maiden Bundesliga season. Eat your heart out Franck Ribery!

FIX-IT RALF

Leipzig coach Ralf Rangnick is preparing to hand over the reins to Julian Nagelsmann in 2019/20, and the 60-year-old has left things in tip-top shape for his successor. The Saxony club have already booked their place in the group stage of next season's UEFA Champions League, and they are on fire at both ends of the pitch, boasting the Bundesliga's best defence and fourth-best attack. In recent weeks, Rangnick has even experimented with a three-man backline, the system favoured by Nagelsmann - talk about rolling out the red carpet!

HELLO THERE!

Guten Tag everybody and welcome to our live text coverage of tonight's Matchday 32 curtain-raiser between Mainz and RB Leipzig.
