GLADBACH DOWN TO TEN

Bensebaini did not need to make that challenge. He was booked for the Bremen penalty, and receives his marching orders. Too late for Bremen, though, surely...?
81'

PLEA!

That third goal has really knocked the stuffing out of Bremen. Alassane Plea tries to add salt into the wound after being set free by a fine piece of play from Florian Neuhaus, but his fierce drive is too close to Pavlenka.

HERRMANN ON A HAT-TRICK...

Steps up to a free-kick, bends it goalwards - but, no! Jiri Pavlenka dives to his right to push the ball behind.
60'

THE HERRMANNATOR!

Gladbach add a third, and it's Herrmann who gets it. Marco Friedl backs off and backs off as the Borussia winger hares in on goal, and is punished emphatically. A rocket of a finish - no chance for Pavlenka. Bremen have a mountain to climb!

BENES CAN'T CONTINUE

The Gladbach pass-master looks like he's rolled his left ankle, and is helped from the field of play by the physios. Florian Neuhaus is on...
57'

THURAM CHANCE!

Marcus Thuram powers in on the Bremen goal, but Jiri Pavlenka closes the angle and is able to get down to make the save. Non-stop entertainment at the Borussia-Park...
54'

PENALTY SAVED!

Davy Klaassen steps up, but Yann Sommer is equal to it. Gladbach's stopper will not be beaten today!
51'

BREMEN PENALTY!

Tobias Stieler takes an age to review a possible foul in the Gladbach penalty box. Ramy Bensebaini is the potential culprit for a push and stamp on Gebre Selassie - and the decision is a penalty!

SOMMER AGAIN!!

Normal service has been resumed at the Borussia-Park. Rashica lets rip, and Sommer makes the flying save. Some contest, this!

ALL-ACTION FIRST HALF

Patrick Herrmann struck a post with the last kick of a furious first 45. Gladbach have the lead through two quick-fire goals, but Bremen have created enough clear-cut chances to suggest this one is far from over.

SOMMER AGAIN!

Leo Bittencourt clips a ball into the six-yard box for Maxi Eggestein. It's an awkward height, but he makes a decent enough connection. Sommer, though, shows cat-like reactions to beat the Werder captain's point-blank effort to safety.

SOMMER SAVE!

Raschica forces a fine save from Yann Sommer. If Bremen are to get anything out of this game, you feel it will come via the Werder No.7...

THURAM CONCERN

Gladbach scorer Marcus Thuram is down receiving treatment after clashing with Yuya Osako, jostling to get on the end of a Benes free-kick. There's no lasting damage, though, and was certanly no malice.
39'

BENSEBAINI!

Raschica gifts possession to Gladbach, who need no invitation to attack. Marcus Thuram ghosts past his marker on the edge of the box, before cutting a cute ball back for Bensebaini, who thunders over. Lightning-quick - so close to a third.
32'

RASCHICA DANGER

Milot Raschica drives past a ruck of white shirts and flashes a fierce effort just wide of Sommer's far post. The Bremen talisman has four goals and one assist in his last five - Gladbach beware!

CONTRASTING FORM BOOKS

Gladbach are unbeaten in their last seven home meetings with Werder, who haven't won at the Borussia-Park since 2010...

VAR SAYS NO!

Yuya Osako thinks he's halved the deficit for Bremen, but match official Tobias Stieler wants to give it another look. He consults the pitch-side monitor, before ruling in Gladbach's favour, citing Milot Rashica's foul on Denis Zakaria in the build-up.

GLADBACH ONE-TWO

We were talking about Raschica's set-piece deliveries, but what about Benes'?! The Gladbach midfielder wins a free-kick out on the right wing, before whipping a peach off a ball onto the head of Ramy Bensebaini. Stunning delivery, towering finish! Moments later, Matthias Ginter goes all quarter-back with a sweeping long ball into the box. Jiri Pavlenka moves off his line, but is beaten to it by Marcus Thuram, and Patrick Herrmann has the simple task of sweeping into the empty net. Two goals in 108 seconds - Gladbach are flying!

RASCHICA DEAD-BALL THREAT

Milot Raschica whips a free-kick past the angle of post and bar. He's a dab hand in those kind of situations - Gladbach won't want to give too many set-pieces away within shooting distance of Yann Sommer's goal.
8'

BEND IT LIKE BENES!

Really neatly done from Laszlo Benes, the Slovakian rolling his marker and turning to face goal. He unleashes a rising strike with that cultured left foot of his, but it doesn't trouble Jiri Pavlenka.

BREMEN BLOW

Werder lost Ömer Toprak in the warm-up, so Sebastian Langkamp comes into the back four. Not an ideal start for Kohfeldt - his side have not kept a clean sheet all season, and it shows as Marcus Thuram pokes narrowly wide with the game's first chance!

TEAM TALK

Maco Rose makes a handful of changes to the Gladbach side that beat Roma in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday courtesy of a last-gasp Marcus Thuram strike. Alassane Plea returns in attack at the expense of captain Lars Stindl. Ramy Bensebaini comes in at left-back as part of a defensive reshuffle, with Tony Jantschke dropping out and Christoph Kramer coming into the midfield. Florian Kohfeldt stickes with the same XI that were held to a fifth successive draw by Freiburg a week ago, meaning Josh Sargent is once again among the substitutes.

TABLE TALK

Gladbach will go into the November international break as leaders, whatever happens today. A win would restore their four-point cushion on RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich, though. Bremen are down in 13th, but could climb as high as 11th if they can snap a six-game winless run.
