FULL-TIME VERDICT

It was a game to get pusles racing and didn't disappoint, serving up a seven-goal thriller that had more twists and turns than an alpine road. Leverkusen took the lead through Kevin Volland, but twice had to come from behind to take all three points. Bayer become the first side to prevent Erling Haaland from scoring as they dent Dortmund's title tilt, while bolstering their own top-four prospects.

BREATHTAKING MATCH

This has without a doubt been a Topspiel , as they say in Germany. Bothj sides have had five shots on target, but it's Leverkusen who have a narrow lead. Get ready to be on the edge of your seats until the final whistle.

SEVEN-GOAL THRILLER

What a sensational game this has been as Leverkusen strike twice in quick succession late on. Bailey is the first to sweep home on the rebound after Volland had been denied by a brilliant challenge. Less than 1 minute later Lars Bender rises highest to plant a header beyond Bürki from Sinkgraven's cross. Leverkusen have turned this game on it's head once again.

A lovely ball over the top of Dortmund backline is just a touch long for Kai Havertz who couldn't pluck it out of the air.

DORTMUND BREAK AGE-OLD RECORD

59 goals scored after 21 games is a new club record for Dortmund, breaking a best-mark from the inaugural Bundesliga season in 1963/94 when they scored 58.
77'

BREAK IN PLAY

Emre Can is suffering from cramp and getting his calves stretched out. The pace of this game has been relentless.
73'

ANOTHER GOAL CHALKED OFF

Volland races clean through on goal before unseelfishly squaring for Bailey to tap into an empty net. The offside flag is up against the Leverkusen striker though.

NOTHING TO LOSE

Peter Bosz throws on Leon Bailey for the final 20 minutes. The Jamaican is without a doubt a player who can make something happen out of nothing, but will he get the chance.

BAD NEWS FOR BAYER

Lars Bender has picked up a knock, isn't moving freely and may not be able to see out the remainder of this game. An injured Bender is a regular occurance in the Bundesliga.
66'

GUERREIROOOOOO!

This time it counts as Dortmund retake the lead. The combination play between Sancho and Hakimi is mesmeric and allows Hakimi to slip in the overlapping Guerreiro who fires across the box and into the bottom corner. An eye-catching effort from the visitors.

SLIM PICKINGS FOR THE HOSTS

Leverkusen are still yet to have a shot on goal in the second half and really need to be getting Kai Havertz on the ball in more dangerous positions. He's still yet to have a hand in a shot on goal so far.
58'

OFF THE POST

It doesn't look like he has much on, but Reyna squeezes out a shot inside the box which deflects onto the Leverkusen post. With Hradecky sprawling the ball rebounds off his back and behind for a corner. That bounce could have gone anywhere though.
55'

RUINED BY REYNA

What a shame for Dortmund. Sancho looked to have swept them back into the lead, but a VAR check shows that Reyna clearly fouled Lars Bender by yanking his arm off the ball in the build-up. A lack of maturity shown by the 17-year-old - that's not a moment he'll look back on fondly and neither will Sancho.

HALF-TIME SUBSTITUTIONS

Weiser replacing Bellarabi is a like-for-like change by Peter Bosz. However, it looks like Gio Reyna's introduction has seen BVB shift back to a 3-4-3 formation with Sancho and Reyna flanking Haaland.
49'

GUERREIR-NO!

The first shot of the second half goes the way of Dortmund. Reyna and Sancho combine well before the Englishman tees upo Guerreiro, who fails to find the target.

HALF-TIME VERDICT

This game is living up to it's blockbuster billing and we're finely poised at the break after Kevin Volland scored a brace either side of a Mats Hummels' header and an Emre Can stunner. With both backlines looking vulnerable against formidable frontlines there should be a few more goals in store after the restart. After all it only took 10 shots in the first half to produce four!

VOLLAND STRIKES AGAIN!

A short corner by Leverkusen sees the ball played into the back post where Tah uses his go-go-gadget legs to hook the ball back into the box. Volland is sharpest to react as he slams a deflected effort beyond Bürki. Game on again on the stroke of half-time.

BVB FANS, MEET EMRE CAN!

That's some introduction for Can as he scores with his first ever shot as a Borussia Dortmund player. The only thing that could have made that goal better is if it was scored in front of the Yellow Wall.
33'

WHAT. A. GOAL!

Welcome back to the Bundesliga Emre Can, who has just scored an absolute beauty. Guerreiro's cross is blocked and when the loose ball falls to Can 30 yards out he goes for placement and power as he chances his arm from range to find the top corner. Hradecky beaten all ends up.

GOAL RULED OUT

Leverkusen work the ball nicely to Sinkgraven out wide as his cross picks out Diaby, who slams home on the volley. Replays show the Frenchman came back from an offside position when the cross was played though. This is brewing into an almighty encounter.

IMMEDIATE RESPONSE

Well that didn't take long. Sancho whips in a corner which is met with a powerful header by Hummels. No one picked up his run to the near post and he was virtually unmarked as he planted the effort past Hradecky.

VOLLAND STRIKES

Bayer Leverkusen have the breakthrough courtesy of a breathtaking counter. Havertz finds Amiri in midfield, who slides a ball beyond the backline for Volland to run onto. Akanji tries to recover having gotten wrong side, but can't prevent the Leverkusen striker finding the bottom corner.

CHANCE FOR HAALAND!

Huge chance as a cheeky reverse pass from Sancho plays Haaland in behind. The angle isn't easy as he tries to beat Hradecky at his near post and he has to settle for a corner, which comes to nothing. That was only the second shot the Norwegian has had without scoring!
17'

JUST NEEDED A TOUCH

Chances have been few and far between so far. Leverkusen have a corner which is flicked on at the near post only to flash harmlessly across the face of goal.
15'

TACTICAL TWEAK

It's not only Leverkusen that have sprung a surprise with their set-up as Dortmund are playing in more of a 4-2-3-1 formation. Hakimi is playing as a right-winger with Can and Witsel acting a double pivot in midfield.
11'

EVENLY-MATCHED SO FAR

It's 50-50 in terms of the possession statistics right now. Dortmund are, however, edging the challenges won with 55 per cent. The only shot on goal so far belongs to Leverkusen though.
9'

CHANGE OF TACTICS

We were expecting Leverkusen to line-up with a four-man backline, but it's more of a three with Sven Bender dropping in. As a result, brother Lars is in holding midfield with Sinkgraven and Bellarabi in the wing-back roles.
6'

SILKY SANCHO

Sancho stands up Tah one-on-one on the edge of the area before beating him for pace. A nice one-two with Brandt in the box opens up the chance to shoot, but the Englishman opts to pass and plays the ball behind Haaland.
4'

DIABY DENIED

A slip by Akanji allows Diaby to bear down on goal, but his shot is comfortably blocked. Dortmund won't want to give him too many looks like that.
3'

MISSING GOAL SCORERS

Dortmund are without two of the three players who scored in their 4-0 win over Leverkusen in the first half of the season. Marco Reus scored twice with Paco Alcacer and Raphael Guerreiro getting the others - where will the goals come from tonight?

HAALAND TO CONTINUE HIS RUN?

The 19-year-old has scored eight goals in four competitive outings for Dortmund so far, having added to his seven Bundesliga strikes with an effort against Bremen in the DFB Cup during the week. He's had the instant impact BVB were hoping for - and will be hoping he continues today.

BOGEY TEAM FOR LEVERKUSEN

Dortmund have won five and drawn one of the teams' six most recent Bundesliga meetings, scoring at least four goals on four occasions. Overall, BVB have 34 Bundesliga wins from 84 matches, while Leverkusen have taken maximum points 28 times - although the last time they did so was on October 2016.

LEVERKUSEN TEAM NEWS

Peter Bosz has made five changes to the side that beat VfB Stuttgart in the DFB Cup during the week. Dragovic, Weiser and Alario are all on the bench, while Palacios (back injury) and Demirbay (suspension) will play no part. Lars Bender returns to the side as a result, alongside Tah, Volland, Amiri and debutant Tapsoba.

CAN RETURNS TO FORMER EMPLOYERS

Can's last Bundesliga game was on 10 May 2014, a match which was also at the BayArena. That day he lined up for Leverkusen against Werder Bremen.

DORTMUND TEAM NEWS

The big news for Dortmund is obviously Marco Reus' absence owing to an injury picked up in the DFB Cup in midweek. Raphael Guerreiro looks likely to replace him in attack for the visitors. There are also starts for Erling Haaland and BVB debutant Emre Can. Incidentally, with Haaland on the pitch Dortmund have scored 13 goals and conceded one. Without him, they've scored just four and let in six.
