GAME OVER

Leipzig take the win and Bremen can have no complaints really. The hosts were simply better today and were more ruthless with their chances, meaning they go top of the standings for 24 hours, with Bayern to travel to Cologne tomorrow. Bremen, meanwhile, remain in trouble in 17th place.

MUKIELE MAKES IT THREE!

That didn't take long at all! Laimer pings a brilliant pass from his own half over the Bremen defence and into the path of Mukiele, who's cut in from the right. He holds off his marker and coolly slots a low shot past Pavlenka.

TWO MINUTES MORE

We're into stoppage time now, the referee having indicated two minutes of added time.
90'

WERNER OFFSIDE

Sabitzer digs out a brilliant cross from the right, straight onto the foot of Werner at the back post. His first-time volley is well saved by Pavlenka - but it wouldn't have counted anyway as the referee's assistant has his flag raised for offside.
87'

RUNNING THE CLOCK DOWN

Leipzig are patiently stroking the ball around in midfield as they probe for the next opening. They'd like another goal here, but are not going for it in a gung-ho manner and would be happy to see the result over the line.
82'

HALF-CHANCE FOR BREMEN

Bittencourt wins a free-kick on the edge of the Leipzig penalty area – his last involvement before being taken off for Johannes Eggestein. Friedl curls it in deep towards Moisander at the back post, but his header is well off target.
77'

SCHICK SHANKS IT OVER

The Leipzig forward is in the left-hand side of the penalty area and tries to cross towards Mukiele at the back post, but the ball spins off his boot and ends up narrowly going over the crossbar. He raises an apologetic hand towards his teammate.
75'

BITTENCOURT SHOT BLOCKED

The Bremen midfielder twists and turns on the right, eventually creating a pocket of space to get a left-footed shot away. It's blocked before it gets very far though, looping up for Gulacsi to pluck from the air. It's symbolic of Bremen's afternoon so far - nothing is really coming off for them.
70'

HERE COMES FORSBERG

The Swede will be keen to make an impact here as he bids to regain his place in the starting XI in midweek, having lost out to Olmo of late.
66'

SARGENT ON FOR OSAKO

The USA international replaces his Japanese counterpart up front for the visitors. He's scored past Leipzig before, so maybe Bremen are hoping lightning strikes twice.
64'

WERNER WANTS A PENALTY...

... as he goes to ground following a tackle from Friedl as he looked to skip past him in the box. The referee was well placed though, and waves play on.
61'

VOGT LIMPS OFF

How much of a blow will this be for Bremen? The winter signing has been excellent today and the scoreline would likely be even bigger if it weren't for him. He's receiving treatment on his left knee on the touchline as former Leverkusen and Dortmund centre-back Toprak takes his place.
60'

DOUBLE SUB FOR LEIPZIG

Nagelsmann likely has one eye on the midweek Champions League game with Tottenham, taking off Laimer and Klostermann early to prevent any injuries, and bringing on Haidara and Ampadu in their places.
59'

CLINICAL FROM LEIPZIG

The hosts have had six shots on goal so far, scoring three times. Bremen have mustered three efforts on goal, but haven't seriously looked like scoring.
57'

BRILLIANT FROM VOGT

Werner is sent racing into the left-hand channel, going mano-a-mano with Vogt. It's not easy to keep up with the Germany forward, but Vogt does brilliantly and gets a toe on the ball to poke it out for a corner, which comes to nothing.
54'

STICK OR TWIST FOR BREMEN?

At the moment it looks like the former, with the visitors sitting deep in their own half and allowing Leipzig to come onto them. They haven't had much joy in the final third today and with goal difference a potential factor in the relegation scrap, they could be forgiven for going into damage-limitation mode.
50'

MUKIELE LOVES BREMEN!

The Leipzig defender now has four Bundesliga goals to his name (all of which have been scored in the second half of games), and has found the net twice against Werder.

LEIPZIG DESERVEDLY AHEAD

Nagelsmann's charges haven't been at their electrifying best as yet, but they haven't needed to be. They've been superior all over the pitch and have made the most of their chances. Bremen have threatened on one or two occasions so are by no means out of this yet, but you get the feeling another Leipzig goal after the break would kill things off.

GULACSI PREVENTS AN OWN GOAL!

Upamecano stretches to cut out Bittencourt's cross from the right but diverts the ball back across the face of goal. Gulacsi was heading in the opposite direction, but manages to shuffle across and tip the ball around the post.
45'

14 GOALS FROM SET PIECES

Schick's effort was the 14th goal Leipzig have scored from dead balls this season - more than any other team. There will be three minutes of added time before the break.
43'

SUPERB DEFENSIVE TRANSITION

A Leipzig attack breaks down on the edge of the Bremen area and the visitors instantly look to break. The hosts are alive to the danger though, and there are immediately four or five defenders sprinting back, eventually hounding Werder off the ball. It may not be sexy, but the hard graft is paying off for Nagelsmann's side.

SCHICK HEADS HOME!

Olmo delivers a corner from the left and Schick rises highest in the box to head in from close range. That's the Czech forward's sixth Bundesliga goal of the season.
37'

SUPERB FROM VOGT

Angelino feeds a ball to Werner on the left and his cross from the byline looks certain to be tapped in by Schick - until Vogt casually gets a toe on the ball to prod it wide of his back post. That was very cool from the Bremen defender, it's the kind of clearance that could easily have ended up in his own net.
35'

RASHICA BLAZES OVER!

Bremen have their best chance of the game as Gebre Selassie powers forward into space down the right. He gets to the edge of the Leipzig area and pulls it back into the middle, where Rashica is arriving. The forward takes it first time, but skews his shot well over the bar.
34'

FRIEDL HAS A GO!

The Bremen left-back finds himself in space around 30 yards from goal, left of centre. He lines up a shot and has a crack, but his stinging effort whistles wide of the post.
31'

CHANCE FOR UPAMECANO!

Angelino fizzes a tricky corner into the box and it looks like Upamecano might get there. He's on the back foot though, allowing Vogt to nip in front and chest the ball back to Pavlenka.
30'

BREMEN STARTING TO PLAY A BIT

Leipzig are no longer pressing quit as high up the pitch, so the away side have a bit more time on the ball. They've put together one or two moves now, albeit without making much headway in the final third. Still, they'll be encouraged by that.
26'

VOGT TO THE RESCUE!

Schick is sent through on goal and looks odds on to double Leipzig's lead, but Vogt manages to catch up with him just in time and lean him off the ball. Schick appeals for a penalty, but the referee waves play on.
24'

RARE FIRST-HALF GOAL FOR LEIPZIG

Believe it or not, Klostermann's goal is the first time since Matchday 15 (in mid-December!) that Leipzig have scored a goal in the first half of a game in the Bundesliga.
21'

IT HAD BEEN COMING

Leipzig have been the better side, showing far more adventure and purpose getting forward and now they've tasted blood they're eager for more. Bremen are still trying to settle down, but can't keep hold of the ball long enough at present.
17'

KLOSTERMANN BREAKS THE DEADLOCK!

Angelino swings the free-kick in deep to the back post where he finds Schick, who nudges it back across the face of goal for the onrushing Klostermann, who is left with a simple tap-in.

FREE-KICK FOR LEIPZIG

Bremen midfielder Maxi Eggestein picks upi the first booking of the game for a late tackle on Mukiele. The hosts are given a free-kick about 35 yards out, over towards the right...
13'

SUFFOCATING PRESS

Leipzig are pressing their visitors extremely high up the pitch - no surprises there - and it's making life very difficult for Bremen, who are struggling to string together any meaning passages of play. The away side are holding firm so far though, having won 54 per cent of all challenges.
10'

BRILLIANT FROM LAIMER

Is there a more unsung player anywhere in the Bundesliga? THe Leipzig midfielder does not get many headlines in a team filled with stars, but he's an exceptional player. Driving forward from his own half, he surges past two or three Bremen players before flicking it right to Werner. He goes for the return pass, but Werner can't get the ball out of his feet and the visitors manage to clear.
7'

OVER FROM OLMO!

Leipzig have the first real chance of the game as Sabitzer plays the ball out wide to Mukiele. He cuts the ball back to Werner on the edge of the box, but the Germany forward miscues his shot, which falls kindly at the feet of Olmo. He takes a touch - on the right-hand corner of the six-yard box - and tries to lift the ball over Pavlenka, but gets too much on it and it goes over the bar. The Spaniard holds his head in his hands - he knows that was a glorious opening!
4'

100 UP FOR UPAMECANO

The French defender is making his 100th competitive appearance for Leipzig today. He's already been on the ball a few times, looking as assured as ever bringing it out from the back.
2'

RASHICA THE DANGER MAN

Leipzig have evidently identified Bremen attacker Rashica as the man to stop, and the Kosovan attacker is immediately surrounded by three defenders when he gets on the ball. The hosts taking no chances early on.

LINING UP

The teams are heading out to the pitch now to complete the pre-match formalities. We'll have a few handshakes, elbow presses and a coin toss and then we'll be under way.

DANI OLMO LOVING LEIPZIG LIFE

The Spanish international has already made two Bundesliga appearances since joining Leipzig in January from Dinamo Zagreb and is loving life in Leipzig with his new club. "It is a league that has always attracted me. It is a very physical league, with many changes of pace, many counterattacks, very direct. But you have to adapt. It is one of the best in the world. If you adapt to this you can improve a lot too."

RASHICA THE HOPE FOR WERDER

Currently sitting second-bottom of the Bundesliga, Bremen are in the middle of their worst-ever Bundesliga campaign with just 17 points from 21 goals. But they do have Milot Rashica, who can be the inspiration they need to get out of trouble. The Kosovan international has had a hand in seven of Werder's last 12 goals and was the last Bremen player to score a goal, back on Matchday 15 at Bayern. Both the club's strikes in 2020 have been own goals.

LATE BLOOMERS LEIPZIG

The Bundesliga's current second-placed side have scored 53 goals already this season but are currently on a remarkable scoring run of unique standards... Leipzig have scored their last 13 goals in the Bundesliga in the second half of matches. Schick - who starts today - was the last player to score before the break, back in December.

YOUNGEST COACHES HEAD TO HEAD

Today's game sees the two youngest coaches in the Bundesliga face off as Julian Nagelsmann (32) plays host to Florian Kohfeldt (37) at the Red Bull Arena. Nagelsmann's debut as a full-time Bundesliga head coach also came against Werder Bremen when he was just 28 years and 205 days off and has suffered defeat in just one of his eight games against Bremen.

WERNER: "WE CAN WIN THE TITLE"

Timo Werner is the first German to score 20 goals in 21 matchdays of a Bundesliga season since Gerd Müller in 1976/77. The RB Leipzig No.11 is certainly in the best form of his career so far, and also believes he and his team can achieve something special this season. " Now that we've managed to get through a lot of the harder games in the second half of the season, we can concentrate on taking points off the teams lower down in the table. If we achieve that, we can finish with 80 points and I'm confident we can win the league with that amount."
