STUNNING FROM LEIPZIG AND WERNER

If ever a performance had the makings of a title contender, this was the one. Gladbach the better side in the first half and should really have taken the lead, but three clear chances fell Timo Werner's way during the night and he took them all. His first-ever Bundesliga hat-trick was a superb one with three clinical finishes of the highest order. Leipzig top the league going into Saturday's fixtures.

WERNER COMPLETES HIS HAT-TRICK!

A first-ever Bundesliga hat-trick for Timo Werner as Ginter's header from a goal kick only goes backwards and Werner latches on to it. He races in on goal and beats Sommer for the third time tonight...

HUGE CHANCE FOR EMBOLO!

Lainer's cross to the back post is perfect and beats Mukiele but Embolo sends his header over the bar from close range.

EMBOLO MAKES THINGS INTERESTING!

Finally a chance is taken for the home side and it comes off Embolo's shoulder. He is on the end of Benes' free-kick and goes for the ball intentionally with his head, but it comes off his shoulder in the end and we could have some late drama here...

ADDED TIME!

We're into four minutes of added time here...

HALSTENBERG OFF INJURED

It may just have been cramp for the German international, but his substitution for Nordi Mukiele was certainly not planned for Nagelsmann. He limps away, but hopefully it's not a genuine injury for the left-back.
82'

ALL LEIPZIG IN THIS SECOND HALF

The away side have been able to produce nine shots on goal compared to Gladbach's one in the second period so far. A stark contrast to the first half with chance after chance going the home side's way...

LEIPZIG GOING TOP OVERNIGHT?

As the game stands, RB Leipzig will be going top of the Bundesliga overnight tonight with a three-point lead over Borussia Dortmund. Scoring eight goals and conceding just one so far, it's been a dream start to life at the club for Julian Nagelsmann.
75'

LEIPZIG STILL PUSHING ON

A shot blocked from Poulsen, and Werner's long switch of play leads to Halstenberg dragging a shot wide of goal. The away side not satisfied with two goals so far here in Gladbach and wanting more.
68'

EMBOLO HAS HIS HEAD IN HIS HANDS

So, so close to a second Gladbach goal. Lainer's cross lands perfectly for him, but his touch is off and it gives a chance for Klostermann to dive in and block the ball. Embolo has a second bite at the cherry, but miscues his shot.
66'

SABITZER SO CLOSE

A lovely strike at goal and a save equal to it from Sommer to deny Leipzig attacking midfielder. Lukas Klostermann then went close with a volley from the ensuing corner.
64'

POULSEN CLOSE AGAIN...

The Danish striker is almost on the end of another teasing Timo Werner cross. Using his ridiculous speed the German beats his marker and crosses to the back post, but just beyond Poulsen's reach.
60'

OFF THE BAR!

This game isn't over in Gladbach. The home side within inches of a goal as Lainer's cross is deflected by Wili Orban onto his own crossbar. The Borussia-Park support getting behind their team in noise here as they go in search of a goal to bring back hope.
58'

THE DIFFERENCE SO FAR

Timo Werner has really shown his quality tonight. He's needed only three shots at goal to score twice, while at the other end, Alassane Plea has had four shots on goal but failed to find the back of the net.
56'

RETURN OF THE WERNER BRACE

After scoring twice in a single game five times last season, Timo Werner has his first brace of the 2019/20 season. In total he's scored more than once in a game on 13 occasions, but he's never scored a Bundesliga hat-trick...
53'

BIG SAVE FROM SOMMER

It should really have been 0-3 there for Leipzig if not for the world-class ability of Yann Sommer. Once again it's Werner involved as he races into the box, beats his man and crosses low into the box. Poulsen is in front of goal and is on the end of his cross, but Sommer stays big to parry the ball away.
47'

WHAT A GOAL FROM WERNER

From nothing at the start of the second half. Poulsen's flick sets Werner on his way, he's chased through the middle of the pitch by Elvedi but the defender has no chance with Werner in full flow. He closes in on goal and produces an outrageously cool finish with his left foot, throwing off Sommer who was expecting him to go with his right.

WERNER THE MAN SO FAR

The German international has shown exactly why he is Joachim Löw's key man in attack. His third goal in three Bundesliga games to start the season is his best return in the opening three fixtures, while he has now scored six goals in seven games at Mönchengladbach. His clinical finish will send even more frustration Alassane Plea's way, with two key chances not being taken.
45'

WHAT A STRIKE FROM PLEA

The Frenchman runs up and absolutely smashes a free-kick at goal, beyond the wall and on target. Luckily for Leipzig Gulacsi is in the right place to let the ball sting his palms before catching it at the second attempt.
42'

BALL IN THE NET... OFFSIDE

Werner's run across the edge of the box eventually sees Sabitzer take a strike at goal. Sommer saves well, but the rebounds falls to Kampl and he smashes it off from a tight angle. But much to his disappointment, the flag is raised at the far side for offisde.
38'

ONE CHANCE AND WERNER SCORES

Leipzig are ahead and it's certainly against the run of play. Outstanding play from Forsberg who looks up while surrounded by defenders to spot the run of Werner. He battles with Ginter to reach the ball and beats the defender before latching onto the pass and tucking the ball under Yann Sommer for the lead with a clinical finish.

ROSE WILL BE DELIGHTED

His Gladbach side are defending like a unit and attacking with force whenever they can. Stretching the play to find space before pushing the ball inside to get a better chance at goal, it's been fun to watch the Foals so far. Plea will be kicking himself that he didn't find the net with one of his chances...
33'

HUGE CHANCE FOR PLEA

More fantastic football from Gladbach again. Embolo goes on a run from the right flank to the middle of the pitch and the edge of the box. He finds Ginter, of all people, with his back to goal in the box and his flick finds Plea with space in front of goal. He can't find a corner with his shot at goal and Gulacsi makes a crucial save.
30'

FIRST MOMENT FOR WERNER

The electrifying German striker is found with a lovely pass through the Gladbach defence from Forsberg. He's out on the left and decides to cross low into the box with Poulsen sniffing around, but his ball blazes past his team-mate and the Gladbach defence.
27'

EMBOLO DANCING

Incredible footwork and balance from Embolo as he moves through and past three or four Leipzig defenders before being brought down on the edge of the away side's box.
25'

SABITZER HIGH AND WIDE

A rare opening of space for Leipzig in this opening 25 minutes as Forsberg finds Sabitzer 25 yards from goal. The Austrian's shot is high and wide though.
19'

LEIPZIG TRYING TO FIND THEIR FEET

A sluggish start here by the high standards of Nagelsmann and his Leipzig side. The visitors now beginning to enjoy more possession, but nothing is coming of their time on the ball. While at the other end, Plea, Thuram and Embolo all look threats in attack.
12'

NOW EMBOLO...

Chances in quick succession for the home side as Laimer's low ball across the edge of the box runs through to Embolo, who totally misjudges his right-footed strike and sends the ball high into the stands. Very positive start for Rose's men so far.
11'

PLEA FIRES OVER

Fantastic one-two between Plea and Embolo on the edge of the box sees Embolo chip a ball over the Leipzig defence to meet Plea's run in behind. The Frenchman goes for goal with a volley from inside the box, but can't find the target with his effort. He'll be disappointed with that.
9'

THURAM AN EARLY THREAT

While Embolo is dropping deep into midfield to collect the ball and start attacks, Thuram is putting himself out on the left wing and is a great option for the attacking Foals.
5'

STARTING WITH TEMPO

Marcel Sabitzer and Timo Werner combine well down the right with the away side's first move forward, but no chance on goal comes of it. Leipzig not enjoying the majority of the possession in these opening exchanges, but they are pressing and push forward with power when they can.
3'

EARLY CARD FOR EMBOLO

A late challenge from Embolo on Klostermann sees the Swiss forward shown the first yellow card of the game in the opening minutes. Big and loud atmosphere here at Borussia-Park for this Friday night clash.

ROSE vs. NAGELSMANN!

This is going to be one of the coolest matches of the season if you're a tactical geek for the young coaches of the world. Marco Rose and his ideas from Salzburg have been highly praised across Europe, while the Bundesliga's youngest ever coach Julian Nagelsmann has one of the league's most talented group of young players. Both new to their jobs this summer, and both looking to take their clubs to the next level. This is set up to be a cracker.

FRIENDS BECOMING FOES

German national team team-mates Matthias Ginter and Timo Werner will come up against each other directly this evening, while at the other end it will be Marcus Thuram and Alassane Plea vs. Ibrahima Konate in the Leipzig defence. Wherever you look, there are incredible one-on-one battles to be seen this evening from some of the Bundesliga's most talented young players.

JOHNSON THE "ALL-PURPOSE WEAPON"

Marco Rose has been full of praise for USA international Fabian Johnson this week. The versatile midfielder played a key role in central midfield in the win over Mainz and keeps his place for this week. Johnson has been able to take advantage of injuries to the likes of Hofmann, Strobl and Kramer to earn his chance and Rose says that all his attributes are "good things for a coach".

ROSES FOALS

Just the one change for Marco Rose from his side's convincing win at Mainz last week, as Laszlo Benes drops to the bench and is replaced by Breel Embolo. The Swiss forward earning a start after scoring and assisting from the bench in that game last time out. Only one of the Gladbach starters has ever been Leipzig and he didn't do it with Gladbach. It was Matthias Ginter back in 2017 with Borussia Dortmund.

TALKING TACTICS

It looks like a change for Julian Nagelsmann's side, reverting from a three-man defence to a four-man backline. Nordi Mukiele has dropped to the bench, and he has been replaced by Konrad Laimer who will join the midfield. Marcel Sabitzer has been in electric form and he'll continue to support Timo Werner and Yussuf Poulsen in attack.
