WHATS NEXT?
With the international break ahead of us, Gladbach will be top for at least two weeks and face Borussia Dortmund on their Bundesliga return. Augsburg, meanwhile, are 14th and need to regroup ahead of taking on defending champions Bayern Munich on Matchday 8. Both games take place on Saturday, 19 October and we look forward to seeing you then. GLADBACH GO TOP
Well, well, well. Borussia Mönchengladbach are top for the first time in over eight years after a truly emphatic 5-1 win over Augsburg. A mad first 13 minutes saw Zakaria and Herrmann (2) give the hosts a 3-0 lead that Augsburg could never recover from. By the time Plea made it 4-0 just before the break, it was game over and Neiderlechner's consolation was almost instantly dismissed by Embolo's fifth.

WHAT A PERFORMANCE
As we head toward injury time, it's just worth noting how good a performance this has been from Gladbach. From start to finish, they have dominated Augsburg and looked great value for the top spot they are about to occupy. Hats off to Rose, he's making quite the impact already.

That Augsburg goal seems to have woken the beast in Gladbach. Substitute Embolo makes it five, teed up by Herrmann to sweep home another clinical counter. Gladbach are back to romping top of the league.

Augsburg have one and Sommer is denied a clean sheet. Having gone close a few minutes ago, Neiderlechner this time fires beyond the Gladbach captain with his fourth goal of the season. He sweeps home after Sommer can only parry Jensen's long-range strike into Neiderlechner's path.

The Gladbach centre-half is off the pitch clutching his shoulder after falling awkwardly and it will be a concern for both club and country ahead of the upcoming international break. He's receiving treatment currently and you'd expect him to make way eventually in Gladbach's final change.

OFF THE LINE... OFF THE POST!
Suddenly this game bursts back into life. First, Zakaria's effort is superbly cleared off the line by Framburger and almost instantly Niederlechner races clear at the other end but his effort is excellently saved by Sommer before rebounding off the post.

Just under 20 minutes to go now and it's very much a case of 'stick' for both sides now. The pace is pedestrian compared to that first 13 minutes that saw Gladbach race into a 3-0 lead.

STICK OR TWIST
With less than half an hour to go, it will be interesting to see how these two approach the end of this game. If you're Gladbach, you're coasting to top of the league but you're in such control, do you go out and try to add to the scoreline? As for Augsburg, they are currently in damage limitation mode but with the hosts easing off, there's an opportunity to get on the scoresheet and win some pride back.

The Gladbach right-back turned awkwardly on his ankle while challenging Vargas for the ball a few moments ago and he's eventually replaced. Hopefully, that's nothing serious but it certainly looked painful.

Plea makes way and is given a deserved rest. The France international made two and scored one in that clinical first half performance. Interestingly, it was only his fifth goal at Borussia Park. Embolo comes on in his place, looking to add to his two Bundesliga goals this season.

Gladbach players appeal for handball in the Augsburg box but there's nothing in it but shoulder. Thuram has made a bright start once again and if his control was better, Gladbach probably have a fifth. He just can't quite bring it under his spell and the ball goes out for a goal-kick.

Schmidt, unsurprisingly, makes two changes at the break. Framberger is on in place of Lichtsteiner, while young Englishman Oxford replaces captain Khedira. Gregoritsch takes the captain's armband.

Gladbach have their fourth and Plea has his fourth of the season. The goal sums up Augsburg's half, Koubek miss-controls and kicks fresh air, while Plea beats him to the ball to tap home from a yard out. Koubek will not want to see that one again. He'll have to, but he won't want to.

BENES AND GINTER GO CLOSE
A lovely, curling free-kick from Benes is tipped over by Koubek. Not enough pace in it to really trouble the keeper but he still had to be alert. It's nearly 4-0 from the resulting corner, too, but Ginter can't connect with his header. A very good chance.

FLASHES WIDE
Both teams let fly but can only see their efforts go wide at both ends. First Lainer shins one wide before Khedira's effort from distance on his left-foot fails to trouble Sommer. Worth noting Sommer has had very little to do so far. He's spent most of his time shifting on the spot in his box getting very wet.

A RARE MOMENT OF CALM
It's been more than ten minutes since our last goal and after our frenetic start, it feels odd. Withdrawal symptoms are definitely kicking in but it's come as a result of Augsburg moving somewhat into damage control and Gladbach not having to force the issue. It's still all the hosts, though.

SOLID AT THE GLADBACH
The Foals have not only been deadly in front of goal this season - as witnessed in these first 20 minutes - but they also have the second best defence in the league in terms of goals conceded. They have let in just five goals so far, with Wolfsburg one better having conceded four, while no team has more clean sheets than Rose's side (3).

It's worth noting Augsburg have won only one of eight Bundesliga away games under Schmidt, back in April in the coach's first game in charge. It will take something remarkable to positively affect that record today.

Koubek can't deny Gladbach this time and Hermann has his second, the Foals their third. They win the ball back and break at rapid speed once more, Herrmann and Plea exchanging passes on the edge of the area before Herrmann notches his third goal in a week. This is already emphatic.

The visitors nearly have an immediate reply but Hahm's effort on goal is superbly blocked by the diving Ginter. Moments later, however, it's nearly 3-0. Koubek this time makes a superb stop to keep his side from going further behind.

Just like that, it's 2-0. Gladbach again raid down the left-hand side and this time Plea gets in behind and pulls the ball back for Herrmann to apply the finish. At this rate, Gladbach are going top for the first time in eight years with a statement. Incredible stuff.

This is a thunderous start from the hosts. Pressing relentlessly and then launching attacks at breakneck speed. Thuram, in particular, looks frightening running at the Augsburg defence.

Woah, that did not take long at all. Stunning work from Thuram out on the left leads to the Frenchman cutting back to Zakaria to finish superbly. The perfect start from Gladbach.

After a crazy day of Bundesliga football yesterday, opportunity is abound for both sides today. A win for the hosts will see them move two points clear of current leaders Bayern Munich, who they will at least move level with if they get a draw. As for the visitors, they can pull four points clear of the Relegation Playoff place should they pick up all three points. Players are in the tunnel and we're minutes away from starting.
THREE CHANGES
Augsburg also ring the changes after their 3-0 loss to Leverkusen last weekend. Jan Moravek comes into midfield alongside Rani Khedira, whole Michael Gregoritsch and former Gladbach man Andre Hahn bolster the attack behind lone striker Florian Niederlechner. Reece Oxford, Iago and Alfred Finnbogason are the players to miss out and are among the subs.
FOUR CHANGES
Marco Rose opts to being in four new faces from the side that started Thursday’s 1-1 draw at Istanbul Basaksehir in the UEFA Europa League. Rami Bensebaini, Tony Jatnschke, Laszlo Benes and goalscorer Patrick Herrmann all come in; Nico Elvedi, Oscar Wendt, Florian Neuhaus and Breel Embolo all drop to the bench.
