GLADBACH BACK ON TOP

They had a few scares in the second half, and Frankfurt can have plenty of regrets, but Marco Rose's men are back on top of the Bundesliga. Thuram punches the air as the final whistle sounds. What a game that was!

NEW FACES AT THE BREAK

Kohr will be a like-for-like replacement for Rode in the Frankfurt midfield while Beyer will slot into Jantschke's spot in the Gbach rearguard. That's the hosts' second change though after Stindl coming on for Embolo earlier.

GBACH ON THE COUNTER

Thuram charges out of his own half followed by four of his teammates...there are only two defenders, but it only takes one, Makoto Hasebe, to close down Stindl before he can shoot. To be fair, it wasn't the best ball from Thuram for his fellow striker.
88'

SOMMER CALMS THE NERVES

Frankfurt launch a high ball into the Gladbach penalty area, but the hosts' captain leaps highest to make a clean catch to huge roars from his club's fans.
85'

GOAL!! ZAKARIA SEALS IT...MAYBE

Thuram is in space down the left...he finds Stindl...rides a couple of challenges, and then squares for Zakaria, who measures a sidefoot shot beyond Rönnow. That's the Switzerland international midfielder's second league goal of the season - is that it now, fellas? Any more drama to come? I'm not sure I can take it.

WHAT NEXT?

Elvedi's goal looked to have sealed a sixth win of the season for Gbach, but Frankfurt have got themselves back into it and they have the momentum. This is going to be a nail-biting final few minutes regardless of which of these two teams you support.
81'

KING KAMADA

The Japan international delivered the corner for Hinteregger's goal, so that's two assists for him in this game. He might have had a goal too. It's been a fine display...is there even more to come?
80'

GOAL!! HINTEREGGER RESTARTS THE SUSPENSE

The big centre-back is always a threat in the air, and when the corner comes in from the left, he leaps to direct a brilliant header into the far corner of the goal. No chance at all for Sommer, who's furious his side have let their opponents hope again.

GLADBACH GOING TOP?

This will put them back into first place, one point clear of second-placed Bayern. They hadn't spent two successive matchdays top of the table since winning the 1976/77 title. This will be a third...

GOAL!! ELVEDI GRABS A THIRD

Kostic's handball gives Benes the chance to drift a free-kick to the back post where Elvedi sends a gorgeous header over Rönnow and into the far corner. It's a goal out of nothing, but just what Rose's side needed as they were on the ropes.
71'

ON A KNIFE EDGE

This game is fabulously poised now. Can Gladbach hold on or will Frankfurt get the leveller their last 15 minutes have fully deserved? Given the hosts started the seccond half well, it's been a game of one half with two halves.
68'

KAMADA AGAIN

It's a Da Costa cross from the right this time that gives the Japan international a chance - he heads just wide of the far post this time. Right now, there is only one team in this. It would be no surprise if they equalise. It's not that Gbach aren't at the races, it's like they don't even know the races are on.
65'

KAMADA GOES CLOSE

Kostic whips a super ball in and Kamada rises to send a header just over the bar...again, Sommer was totally beaten. Looks like Gbach's midweek trip to Rome is hurting them right now, they look exhausted all of a sudden.
64'

OOOOOH!

Wendt's clearance is charged down by Da Costa just outside the Gladbach box and the Frankfurt man bends a shot that Sommer can only watch...fly narrowly past the far post! The whistle had gone for handball by Da Costa actually, but that is another warning for the hosts of just how fragile their lead is now.
62'

ROSE RILED

The Gladbach coach is on his feet and in his technical area, geeing up his side and clapping with enthusiasm. His players need to respond, they've dropped off in the last 10 minutes, and have paid for it.
62'

GAME ON!!

Gladbach appeared to be in total control of this one, but that Da Costa goal has given Frankfurt a real chance here. They've been the better side in the last few minutes, even before they scored.
59'

GOAL!! DA COSTA PULLS ONE BACK

Kostic sends a long diagonal ball left to right...Kamada brings it down, gets to the byline...his cross is met by Da Costa, whose shot squirms past Sommer. Frankfurt are right back in it.

KOSTIC STRIKE

The left wing-back is all alone on the far side of the penalty area when a deep cross comes in, but his shot is deflected wide. Frankfurt don't make anything of the corner.
56'

BENES BENDS ONE

Benes lines up a free-kick some 25 metres out...the Slovakia international sends an effort curling goalwards, but Rönnow leaps to his left to push it out. Great play all round.
53'

STINDL CURLS ONE...

Wide! Another Gbach counter-attack where the hosts had a lot of players over. If Stindl had simply slipped the ball outside him, Wendt was racing into the box totally unmarked.
52'

HERRMANN CHANCE!

Stindl plays a nice ball through to Herrmann, whose first touch is a little heavy and allows Hinteregger to stretch and block his shot. Frankfurt were cut open there, and were fortunate.

GBACH DESERVEDLY AHEAD

There is no doubt the hosts had the better of the opening 45 minutes, and will perhaps only be disappointed they haven't got more than a single goal to show for it. If the scoreline stays like this, they'll be going back to the top of the table tonight.

GOAL!! WENDT MAKES IT TWO

Hinteregger's clearance is weak, and picked up by Benes. He finds Herrmann, whose deep cross finds Thuram. He can't find the space to shoot, but the ball breaks kindly to Wendt, who rifles low into the net. They've deserved that.
43'

THURAM THE TERROR

The Gbach goalscorer battles with Abraham down the left and earns his side a promising free-kick - the Foals do not make the most of it, and Frankfurt clear comfortably enough.
38'

WASTED CHANCE

Thuram bursts into the space from where Embolo crossed for him to score, but the French forward's ball - which seemed to be aimed at Wendt, who was arriving late into the box - isn't a good one. If it had been, it might well have been 2-0.
35'

EMBOLO LIMPS OFF

That looks like a muscle injury for the Switzerland forward. That's a blow! He's just put in a contender for Cross of the Season for that Thuram goal. It bisected Hasebe and Rönnow quite brilliantly. It didn't even look like there was enough space for him to squeeze the ball through, but he did. Somehow.
34'

PACIENCIA GETS IT WRONG

The Frankfurt forward sends what should have been a defensive header from a Benes free-kick spinning dangerously towards his own goal, but Rönnow leaps to his left to spare his teammate's blushes.
32'

CLICHE ALERT...BUT TRUE

Goals change games, of course, and there is no doubt that Thuram opener has added spice to this one in the last two minutes. The challenges are just a little bit more prickly, the runs a little more determined.
31'

PACIENCIA RESPONDS

Yann Sommer moves smartly to his left to cling on to a Paciencia header that would have crept inside the post. Good riposte from the visitors.
29'

GOAL!!! THURAM BREAKS THROUGH

Benes wins the ball and plays a fabulous pass into the right-hand channel for Embolo...the Switzerland interational manages to get a superb cross into the six-yard area where Thuram steers home. Blistering counter-attack from the hosts.

ELVEDI CLEARS DANGER...JUST

The Switzerland international miscues his clearance to a dangerous cross over Yann Sommer's crossbar. Frankfurt don't make anything of the corner it gifted them though.
24'

GBACH CAMPING OUT

The hosts are playing the game in their opponents' half, knocking on a door they have yet to find a way to open. But if they maintain this sort of pressure, they surely will at some stage.
1'

FERNANDES OFF THE LINE!

The the ensuing corner, Zakaria is first to the ball at the back post and he heads towards goal from six-yards out. Frankfurt midfielder Fernandes is on the line though and is able to clear.
1'

TOP DEFENDING FROM DA COSTA

Gladbach pour forward and make quick headway with a series of one- and two-touch passes. The ball is worked over to the left to Thuram, who tries to take on Da Costa, twisting and turning all over the place. The Eintracht defender does very well to keep his eye on the ball and clear for a corner.
1'

OPENING UP

The teams are starting to throw off the shackles and it's becoming an increasingly open game. Kostic and Da Costa are, as ever, very active on the Frankfurt wings, while Gladbach striker Embolo is using his strength and pace to target veteran defender Hasebe.
1'

PACIENCIA IN BEHIND...

The striker drifts behind the Gladbach defence and brings down a brilliant diagonal pass. He has time to shoot, but opts to cut inside for a better angle and is tackled by Jantschke, who clears the danger.
1'

KAMADA A WHISKER AWAY

Paciencia sprays a stunning crossfield pass from right to left to Kostic. The winger cuts inside and floats a right-footed cross to the back post, looking for Kamada. The Japanese playmaker is unmarked, but just can't reach the ball and it sails out for a goal kick.
1'

FIRST CORNER FOR GLADBACH

Embolo does well down the right and wins a corner for his side. Benes swings it in from the right and finds Jantschke, who heads narrowly over the bar.
1'

CAGEY OPENING

The teams are still just feeling each other out here. Both are tyring to get forward at pace whenever they get the ball, but possession is switching hands frequently in midfield, with neither team properly settled.

CONFIRMED FRANKFURT LINE-UP

Frankfurt:  Rönnow – Abraham (c), Hasebe, Hinteregger – da Costa, Fernandes, Rode, Kostic – Kamada, Sow – Paciencia

CONFIRMED GLADBACH LINE-UP

Gladbach: Sommer (c) – Lainer, Elvedi, Jantschke, Wendt – Benes, Zakaria, Neuhaus – Embolo - Herrmann, Thuram

GAME HISTORY

Frankfurt have won 34 of the duo's 90 Bundesliga meetings with Gbach triumphing on 30 occasions.

FRANKFURT TEAM NEWS

Excellent against Leverkusen, Rönnow continues in goal with Trapp still out with a shoulder problem. Paciencia is the lone striker with Dost and Andre Silva both sidelined.

GBACH TEAM NEWS

With Alassane Plea sidelined by a thigh injury, Marcus Thuram and Breel Embolo are joined by Patrick Herrmann in attack. Ginter had been expected to play, but his shoulder injury means he remains unavailable for selection.

PACIENCIA ON FRONT LINE

"Bas is a typical modern-day No.9. He's a guy who can keep the ball, has a fantastic first touch, the direct contact is fantastic but he's a different player to Andre and I. Andre is a player who is more out wide, he likes to be a winger but he's also a No.9. Andre is not so technical, he's more like Ante Rebic, he's the same kind of player. He fights a lot, runs a lot and has a lot of quality so in the area he's very good to have."

BORUSSIA-PARK

Borussia-Park is a thoroughly modern stadium, with top-class views from all angles, an impressive green-white-black lighting system, and a 54,000 capacity. The facilities inside are as swish as anywhere in Germany, while standing tickets start at under €20. While all of that makes it well worth a visit, the centrepiece is the noise. Gladbach fans are as passionate as any in the land, with the famed Nordkurve (North Stand) whipping up a quite a din every other week.

WEEK 8 REWIND

Marco Reus proved decisive against his former club once again as his goal earned Borussia Dortmund all three points in a 1-0 victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach.  Goncalo Paciencia netted a first-half brace at the Commerzbank-Arena, with Bas Dost also on target, to help Eintracht Frankfurt beat Bayer Leverkusen in the Matchday 8 opener and leapfrog their opponents in the table.

THURAM ON ROSE

Marcus Thuram has made a flying start to life in the Bundesliga, and says his and his club's excellent opening is down in large part to their boss, Marco Rose: "He talks about the opponent. He's very precise about what he expects us to do on the pitch and we all understand what he wants. He gives you confidence. He's a coach you want to fight for."

GLADBACH IN EUROPE

Lars Stindl's late penalty earned Marco Rose's men a 1-1 draw at Roma in Thursday's UEFA Europa League tie.
