STARS OF THE SHOW

Silas and Kalajdzic the scorers here, with Wamangituka providing one of the goals of the season so far.
81'

KOHR BOOKED

The Mainz midfielder is the next man to bring down Gonzalez and he's cautioned.
80'

SUPERB SILAS

The last Stuttgart player to score 11 goals after the first 19 games of a Bundesliga season was Fredi Bobic, 24 years ago in the 1996/97 season.
76'

ÖZTUNALI CLOSE!

Mainz push forward down the right with Boetius finding the pass to Öztunali in a touch of space. His shot is well-hit, but it's straight at Koebl in the Stuttgart goal.
75'

ANOTHER DOUBLE CHANGE

Last-chance saloon now for Mainz with Boetius and Szalai coming on for Bell and Onisiwo.
72'

SENSATIONAL FROM SILAS!

What a goal this is from Stuttgart's top scorer. He picks up possession just outside his own penalty area and there's only one thing in his mind. He speeds down the left wing before cutting into the middle, past several Mainz defenders and into the area before smashing the ball past Zentner with a fabulous finish. A stunning solo goal from Stuttgart's wing wizard.

GETTING CLOSER

Öztunali finds Burkardt with a neat pass into the Stuttgart area but the first-half substitute attempts to control the pass while turning on goal, and the ball runs away from him in the end.

SASA THE DIFFERENCE SO FAR

Kalajdzic's header is what is separating these two sides with 25 minutes to play. Mainz will still believe they can get something from this.

ALMOST TWO FOR KALAJDZIC!

It's another cross from the left which causes damage in the Mainz defence. This time it's Förster and this time it's a free-kick, but the same man meets it in the middle with Kalajdzic in the right place. His glancing header goes across the face of goal and narrowly wide.
62'

DOUBLE CHANGE

Stöger and Öztunali come on here with Fernandes and Latza withdrawn for Mainz.
61'

OFF THE BAR!

Best chance for Mainz so far this evening. Latza whips in a free-kick from far out on the right flank and it's met by Onisiwo eight yards from goal. His powerful header leaves Kobel stranded and he can only watch as the ball bounces back up off the crossbar.
59'

HALF-CHANCE

Gonzalez meets Förster's corner from the right but mistimes his jump, and his header slices wide with Kalajdzic close to reaching it at the back post but to no avail.
57'

SOSA OFF THE PITCH

Having created the opening goal, the wing-back has gone off the pitch now in some discomfort. He'll have to come off.
55'

SASA AND SOSA COMBINE!

The perfect combination down the left and Stuttgart are ahead. Förster spots Sosa in space on the left and the Croatian whips in a first-time cross of perfection that Kalajdzic meets ahead of Niakhate before heading the ball down into the bottom corner beyond Zentner.

THE ONE TO WATCH

The battle between Silas and Mwene has been a great watch so far, with both players having their moments.
51'

KOBEL DOWN

Stuttgart's No.1 is down here holding his left shoulder and will take some treatment now but is fine to continue.
47'

GONZALEZ FIRES WIDE

A quick start from Stuttgart with Kalajdzic battling to win the ball in the Mainz half, and the loose ball finds its way to Gonzalez. He goes for goal from all of 25 yards, but drags this shot well wide of the target in the end.
46'

BACK UNDERWAY!

The away side get the ball rolling again for the second half. These two sides have never played out a goalless draw in the Bundesliga at Stuttgart. Let's hope that doesn't start tonight!

ADDED TIME

Just one minute of added time at the end of the first half.
43'

BELL BOOKED

A second Mainz yellow card here with Bell cautioned for another foul on Gonzalez.
39'

DIFFICULT CHANCE

Förster charges forward through midfield and fires a pass into Gonzalez to his left. It forces the forward to hit the ball at goal with his first touch, and it's too much for him to create a real chance on goal.

FREE HEADER FOR GONZALEZ!

Another chance goes begging for Stuttgart with a dinked cross in from the left for Gonzalez to meet. He's usually so good in the air, rising high to meet this one, but he can't keep it low enough to force Zentner into action.

MAINZ CONFIDENT

The away side playing with plenty of confidence and composure. Again they win the ball in the Stuttgart half and it ends up being a shot fired over the bar from Fernandes. But that came after a sustained period of possession for Mainz. That will continue to build their belief here.
27'

AND FOR MAINZ

Likewise for Mainz here, with Quaison now unable to continue having looked comfortable again for 10 minutes or so. Burkardt is on for him.
26'

EARLY CHANGE

A big shame for Castro, who is brought off here for Förster with an injury 26 minutes in.
25'

BIG CHANCE!

Sosa is in behind the Mainz defence down the left and cuts the ball across before he reaches the byline. It's a fantastic piece of defending from Bell who slides in ahead of Kalajdzic, who was about to slot the ball home, and Zentner gathers his block ahead of the Stuttgart striker.
24'

CASTRO KNOCK

It's a landmark night for the Stuttgart captain, but he has taken himself off the pitch here with a knock. We will have to see if he can continue.
21'

NIAKHATE BOOKED

The first caution of the game comes for the Mainz captain after he brought down Silas.
19'

STUTTGART PROBING

The home side finding their flow now with passing and moving up the pitch. Kalajdzic goes close to reaching Sosa's cross from the left with Stuttgart's pressure building.
15'

QUAISON DOWN

The Swede is just taking some treatment to his right knee here after a simple block of a cross. Looks like he will try to continue here at the very least.

MAINZ NOT LETTING UP

14'

GONZALEZ GOES CLOSE!

The Argentine strikes a volley at goal with his favoured left foot raised high above his waste at the back post of the Mainz area. This one is dipping, but not enough to go on target before it clips the roof of Zentner's net and goes over.
12'

ONISIWO STRIKES ONE

Mainz win the ball back outside the Stuttgart box with Onisiwo quickly found by Quaison. His snap-shot bounces just wide of goal but a warning sign for Stuttgart that Mainz are going to continue how they have started here tonight.
10'

FRUSTRATING START

Mainz's high pressing up the pitch and hard tackling already has provided a tough start for Stuttgart. The home side are enjoying most of the possession and look comfortable defending the counter-attack, but are still looking for a way through the Mainz backline.

EARLY PRESSURE

Mainz doing well to not allow Stuttgart into their rhythm earlier on here. They have forced Stuttgart to play long so far and give up possession a little too easily for the home side's liking.

HERE WE GO!

The new weekend is underway with Stuttgart and Mainz going head-to-head tonight.
キックオフ

WHAT'S AT STAKE

Sitting second bottom in the table, Mainz are desperate for points. It's currently a five-point gap between themselves and Cologne in the relegation play-off spot. Stuttgart, meanwhile, sit in 10th spot and have a five-point gap ahead of themselves too, which is to rivals Freiburg to whom they suffered defeat last weekend.

MAINZ'S MIXED BAG

Mainz have 10 points on the board this season, with five coming on the road. The 05ers’ six assignments in 2021 have all been against top-six opposition. They took a 2-0 lead in a losing effort to Bayern Munich, held Borussia Dortmund and beat Leipzig, whilst suffering 2-0 losses to Frankfurt and Wolfsburg.

NO HOME COMFORTS FOR VFB

Stuttgart have claimed just five of their 22 points so far this season on home soil and are yet to win in eight outings.

ROBIN READY TO TURN IT ON?

Quaison was Mainz’s 13-goal top scorer last season, but only has two after 18 games in 2019/20 compared to seven at the same juncture last term. With Mateta now in the Premier League, Mainz will be turning to their main-man in attack for scoring inspiration.

WATCH: STUTTGART'S ANTI-DISCRIMINATION KITS

The home side will be sporting shirts with rainbow colours everywhere in sight in support of diversity both in society and in football itself.

EYES ON GONZALEZ AND SILAS

Gonzalez has scored in two of his last three league games, and has six in 12 for the campaign. He finished his previous German top-flight season on two goals in 30 matches. While Silas is VfB’s most productive player in front of goal this season, though, with 10 goals and three assists.

400 UP FOR GONZALO!

Stuttgart captain Gonzalo Castro makes his 400th Bundesliga appearance tonight. The former Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund midfielder will become the third active player to do so after Manuel Neuer and former VfB captain Christian Gentner. The 33-year-old midfielder is back to his industrious best with Stuttgart.

STUTTGART TEAM NEWS

Left wing-back Sosa was a late injury absentee last weekend. The Croatian has been assessed this week and is fit to start, with Coulibaly waiting on the bench should he be needed. Arsenal-owned Mavropanos replaced Stenzel at half-time against Freiburg. Which one joins Anton and Kempf in Stuttgart's back three appears to be a question Matarazzo remains undecided on, with Mavropanos preferred tonight.

MAINZ TEAM NEWS

Da Costa and Kohr were thrown straight in for debuts following their loan acquisitions from Frankfurt. The former assisted Barreiro's winning goal, but the latter came off late on with a calf strain. Mainz do have both available, but are without Barreiro, who suffered an ear laceration in the win over Leipzig which has ruled him out. Top scorer Mateta left for Crystal Palace in the winter window, so Onisiwo joins Quaison in attack.
