HONOURS EVEN

The referee blows the whistle for full time, bringing an end to a frenetic game. Gladbach will be the happier of the two sides with a point, having hung on for most of the second half, although they did create one or two promising chances. Lewandowski got off the mark for Bayern, who pushed hard for a winner but found goalkeeper Sommer in inspired form.

KIMMICH FIRES WIDE!

Coman does brilliantly on the right wing, twisting and turning to get to the byline and cut the ball back into the middle. Kimmich is unmarked as he arrives late into the box, but side-foots wide of the post!

BENES ON

That's Neuhaus' last involvement, as Benes enters the pitch for the stoppage time.

NEUHAUS BOOKED

A professional foul from the Gladbach midfielder, who brings down Musiala in the centre circle to prevent him launching a counter-attack.

COMAN LASHES WIDE

Musiala drives forward and plays the ball to Coman, right of centre and just outside the Gladbach box. He shoots, but it's high, wide and not very pretty.

BRAWN AND BRAINS

Bayern have embraced the physical battle here, winning more challenges as well as dominating possession.

THURAM MUST SCORE!

Lainer with a cross into the box so teasing that it should be censored. Thuram is arriving at the back post and just needs to get a foot on it to poke Gladbach in front again, but he misses the ball completely and it rolls out for a goal kick. A huge let-off for Bayern there.

MASTERS AT WORK

75'

ATTACKING CHANGES

Nagelsmann isn't happy with a point here and is going for the win: he brings on Musiala and Coman in place of Gnabry and Sane in a bid to unlock the Gladbach defence again.
72'

NEXT CHANGE

Wolf has run himself to a standstill, so is replaced by Bennetts for the last 20 minutes or so.
70'

NEUER DENIES STINDL!

Wolf wins possession wide on the left and quickly plays a pass forward to Thuram, who touches it back to Stindl arriving on the edge of the Bayern box. He shoots first time, aiming for Neuer's bottom-left corner, but the Bayern goalkeeper gets down well to tip it wide for a corner.
69'

KRAMER BACK ON

It looks like it was a case of cramp for Kramer. He's up and running again now though.
67'

KRAMER DOWN

The Gladbach midfielder is receiving treatment to his left calf after slipping on the pitch. Hopefully he'll be ok to continue.
65'

DOUBLE CHANGE FOR GLADBACH

Hütter reacts to Bayern’s growing dominance to bring on some fresh legs, with Hofmann replacing Herrmann on the right wing, and Thuram coming on for Plea up top.
62'

GINTER INTERCEPTS

Müller plays a lovely through-ball between the lines for Gnabry, who looks to be through on goal... until Ginter darts back to make a vital interception to clear. Bayern are pushing hard for a second goal now.
60'

SOMMER AGAIN! HOW?

Davies skips past Lainer on the Bayern left and cuts the ball into the middle from the byline. It rolls in nicely for Lewandowski, who side-foots it at goal from eight yards out, but Sommer is once again well placed to produce another stunning save.
59'

SOMMER TO THE RESCUE

Bayern's pressure is beginning to show, both in the flow of the game and in the stats. They've had eight attempts on target so far, most of which have been thwarted by Sommer.

WIDE FROM LAINER!

The Gladbach right-back steals into the Bayern box to connect with a free-kick, but his header at the back post goes narrowly off target.
53'

OVER FROM SANE

Bayern are really turning the screw now and Gladbach can't make it out of their own half. Sane control a cross on his chest, just outside the Bayern box, before getting a snapshot away as it drops. The Germany international can't keep it down though, and it sails into the crowd behind the goal.
52'

LEWANDOWSKI HEADER

Sane jinks past Elvedi on the right and dinks a cross into the middle. Lewandowski gets his head to it but can't direct his effort past Sommer.
47'

FIRST CHANCE OF THE HALF FOR SANE

The ball falls to Sane, just outside the Gladbach box. It's set up nicely for him to have a shot with his favoured left foot, but he doesn't get much power behind it and curls his effort straight at Sommer.
46'

OFF AGAIN!

Bayern get the ball rolling in the second half.

ALL SQUARE AT THE BREAK

Bayern have had more of the ball and improved as the half wore on, deservedly equalising through Lewandowski, who has carried on where he left off last season. Gladbach look sharp and very dangerous on the break though, with Stindl, Wolf, Herrmann and Plea proving a handful with their pace and movement. There are more goals in this one yet.

MR. INEVITABLE

Kimmich swings in a corner from the right and Lewandowski nips in ahead of Elvedi to volley home from six yards. An equaliser had been coming and the hosts had Sommer to thank that the leveller did not arrive sooner.

GLADBACH WORKING HARD

Bayern have had more of the ball (59 per cent of possession), but the home side are compensating for that by covering plenty of ground.

DOUBLE SAVE FROM SOMMER!

Bayern are turning up the pressure now and Lewandowski slides a pass into Stanisic's run on the right-hand side of the box. He shoots low but Sommer makes another brilliant save, then gets up to collect the rebound as the Bayern defender attempts to bundle it in at the second attempt.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE SIDES

31'

HUGE TACKLE FROM UPAMECANO

Goretzka is slightly off the pace again, as Stindl picks his pocket and charges towards goal. He tries to slide a pass into the unmarked Plea, similar to the opening goal, but this time Upamecano thunders in with a brilliant interception to stop the danger.
31'

STINDL GOES FOR A LOB

Goretzka is a tad too casual with a pass and Stindl is able to intercept. He spies Neuer off his line and tries to chip him from about 25 yards out, but his shot sails wide of the target.

SANE BLAZES OVER!

A surging run from Davies down the left ends with him teeing the ball up for Sane, on the edge of the area. He shoots first time, but his powerful drive whizzes over.
26'

SENSATIONAL FROM SOMMER!

An unbelievable save from the Gladbach keeper. Davies lofts a high pass into the Gladbach box and Lewandowski is arriving unmarked. He side-foots a first-time volley at goal from about 8 yards out, but somehow Sommer manages to keep it out!
24'

WIDE FROM ELVEDI!

Lainer floats the free-kick into the box, but it's straight at Upamecano. His attempted header clear hits a teammate and falls at the feet of Elvedi, who instantly snaps a shot at goal. He doesn't make a clean connection though and it bobbles wide.
22'

FREE-KICK FOR GLADBACH

Herrmann takes on Davies, cutting inside the Canadian on the right-hand corner of the Bayern box. He goes to ground under a clumsy tackle from Davies, and Gladbach have a free-kick in a dangerous position...
18'

SCALLY COPING WELL

The 18-year-old American certainly does not look out of place here. Bayern have been targetting him down their right, but Scaly has done well to deny Sane any space to work in. We've also just seen a glimpse of his ability going forward, attempting to take on Stanisic on the outside of Bayern's box. It didn't work out, but it's a sign of his confidence nonetheless.

HEAVYWEIGHT BATTLE

Goalscorer Plea gets to grips with fellow Frenchman Upamecano.
14'

SOMMER DENIES LEWANDOWSKI!

A stunning save from the Gladbach keeper. The ball sits up nicely for Bayern's goal machine, who smashes a volley at goal from around 10 yards out. Sommer dives to his right to save, before scrambling to his feet to collect the rebound.
13'

GNABRY ALMOST IN

Davies finds space on the left and whips a low cross into the box, where Gnabry controls it well. He tries to create a pocket of space to shoot, but Ginter is playing close attention and manages to get a toe on the ball to poke it away.
10'

PLEA SCORES!!

Gladbach lead! This is the third time they've got behind the Bayern defence already and this time they make it count. Davies loses the ball on the left and it's quickly played forward to Stindl, in the inside-right channel. He squares it to Plea arriving in the box, and the Frenchman smashes a left-footed shot past Neuer!

CHANCE FOR GNABRY!

Lewandowski slides Gnabry into position on the left-hand side of the Gladbach area. The Germany international curls his shot wide of the far post - but it wouldn't have counted anyway as the assistant referee raises his flag for offside.
6'

NEXT CHANCE FOR GLADBACH!

Herrmann is sent scurrying through on goal after a brilliant defence-splitting pass from Neuhaus. He could - and probably should - shoot, but instead opts to square the ball to Stindl, arriving to his left. He plays it just behind his captain though, and Stanisic slides in to intercept - poking the ball back to Neuer, who clears with his foot.
4'

SO CLOSE FROM HERRMANN!

After a scrappy opening few minutes as the teams settle, the first chance of the game falls to Herrmann. Plea does well to hold off his marker and lay the ball off on the edge of the Bayern box. Herrmann takes a first-time shot, arrowing a fizzing shot just wide of Neuer's right-hand post!

TEAM NEWS - GLADBACH

Patrick Herrmann has impressed new coach Hütter during pre-season, so he retains his spot in attacking midfield ahead of Jonas Hofmann. Ramy Bensebaini is still out injured, so 18-year-old American Joe Scally makes his Bundesliga debut, preferred at left-back to new signing Luca Netz. Marcus Thuram is also on the bench - Hannes Wolf is given the nod on the left side of attacking midfield, with captain Lars Stindl and forward Alassane Plea leading the charge for goals.

TEAM NEWS - BAYERN

It's largely as expected from Julian Nagelsmann in his first competitive game at the helm, although there are a couple of surprises at the back. Niklas Süle starts in central defence alongside summer signing Dayot Upamecano, with Tnguy Nianzou on the bench, while Alphonso Davies has been deemed fit enough to begin at left-back. On the other side of the back four, 21-year-old Josp Stanisic begins at right-back in place of the injured Benjamin Pavard for what will be just his second Bundesliga outing.
