LEVERKUSEN GOING THIRD

A sign of Leverkusen's strength in depth as Alario and Amiri enter the fray. They're six points behind second-placed Dortmund, but have the squad to mount a sustained top-four push.

SAVED!

Hradecky goes the right away to deny Szoboszlai. He pushes the effort onto the woodwork, but doesn't know much about it as the loose ball bounces back and hits him on the rear on its way across the face of goal. That sums up Leipzig's day.

LEIPZIG PENALTY

Edmond Tapsoba goes into an aerial challenge with hands raised. A VAR review confirms the referee's suspicions - that's a penalty..

WHO IS BONNAH?

Former Ajax youth player Solomon Bonnah - a Netherlands U19 international and right-back by trade - makes his Bundesliga debut, days after making his first senior appearance, in the Champions League. Amadou Haidara's also on, having missed out against Brugge through injury.

ANDRICH MAKES WAY

He's put in another solid shift in the middle of the park. You can certainly see why Seoane's such a fan. Demiraby is his replacement for the final 10...

HOME BANKER?

Spare a thought for rock-bottom Greuther Fürth, who travel to Leverkusen next weekend on the back of 4-0 and 6-3 defeats to Gladbach and Hoffenheim respectively. The game will pit the Bundesliga's third best attack (28 goals scored) against its leakiest defence (39 goals against).
74'

LEIPZIG SWITCH

Tyler Adams and Benjamin Henrichs replace ex-Leverkusen midfielder Kevin Kampl and Konrad Laimer. Beierlorzer will be hoping the fresh legs can put the brakes on Bayer's speedsters.
72'

WOODWORK!

Leverkusen have men over once again as Diaby tears away on the counter and fires against the upright. Leipzig have been far too passive defensively.
64'

FRIMPONG!

Leverkusen restore their two-goal advantage. Diaby squares a pass to Frimpong, who races into the box and scores via a massive deflection.

LEIPZIG PULL ONE BACK!

Nkunku curls in a cross from the left, and Andre Silva gets in-between the Leverkusen centre-backs to send a stooping header past Hradecky. Seoane's response is to bring on Aranguiz and Kossounou.

CHANCES AT BOTH ENDS

Robert Andrich, who scored twice against Celtic in the Europa League on Thursday, fails to make the desired connection with Adli's left-wing cross. Leipzig attack with Forsberg, who shoots tamely at Hradecky from 18 yards.
56'

BLOCKED

Leipzig move the ball nicely in and around the Leverkusen area. Forsberg's shot takes a wicked deflection, but the ball drops wide for a corner that doesn't produce the goods.
51'

ADLI!

Leverkusen with a five-on-three break. Schick helps it on to Adli, whose stinging left-footed strike is too hot to handle for Martinez. There are more goals in this...

HRADECKY MADE TO WORK!

Lukas Hradecky dives to his right to beat away Laimer's rising drive. That's the first real save the Leverkusen No.1 has had to make.
46'

NO CHANGES

Leipzig assistant Achim Beierlorzer hasn't received any intructions from the waylaid Jesse Marsch to shuffle his pack just yet, so it's as you were at the second half kicks off.

HALF-TIME: LEIPZIG 0-2 LEVERKUSEN

A deserved lead for Leverkusen, courtesy of two fabulous goals from Messrs Wirtz and Diaby. The visitors have played more like the home side - can Leipzig muster a response?

TIME ADDED ON

Three additional minutes, accumulated largely during those VAR checks. Leipzig need a serious rethink, if they're to turn this around.
44'

SZOBO WATCH

Szoboszlai's first action is to float a free-kick onto the head of Gvardiol, but he's a good 14 yards out and that doesn't trouble Hradecky.
43'

TACTICAL CHANGE

Harsh one for young Brobbey, but he's just not been able to get in the game. Szobozlai is on for Leipzig as we creep towards half-time.

FORSBERG BOOKED

Forsberg goes into the book after catching Diaby with a challenge tinged with frustration.

DIABY DOUBLES LEVERKUSEN'S LEAD!

Another superb Leverkusen goal! Jonathan Tah goes quarter-back with a searching pass up towards the edge of the Leipzig area. Diaby takes it away from Gvardiol and Klostermann with a sensational first touch, and calmly dispatches with his second. Just brilliant.

WIRTZ IN GOOD COMPANY

It's now five Bundesliga goals for the season for Wirtz. He also has six assists. Only Robert Lewandowski (15), Thomas Müller (15), Erling Haaland (14) and Marco Reus (12) have had a direct hand in more goals.

LEVERKUSEN COUNTER

Wirtz needs no invitation to initiate a counter as a Leipzig attack breaks down. Diaby's played into the box on the left-hand side, but drags his shot wide of the far post.

WIRTZ!!!

This one counts! Wirtz makes a diagonal run in off the right-hand side as Palacios floats a ball over the top of the Leipzig defence. He does really well to hold off Angelino and control the pass on the run, before poking beyond Martinez. Superb goal by the 18-year-old - his first following a run of three Bundesliga games without one.

GVARDIOL!

Gvardiol of all people collects a right-wing cross in the Leverkusen area. He controls well and digs out a shot on his stronger left side, but can't find the target.

LEIPZIG PROMISE

Leipzig retain possession in their own half, successfully playing through Leverkusen's high press. Forsberg and Nkunku combine to set up an opening for Silva, whose shot from the edge of the area is deflected over.

GOAL RULED OUT

Leverkusen break at speed, with Schick flicking a pass into the feet of Adli. He scampers clear and finds Diaby, who cuts inside and fires emphatically past Martinez - but was Adli offside? Just!

MILESTONE FOR SCHICK

The Czech forward makes his 50th competitive outing for Leverkusen today. Can he crown the occasion with a goal against his former club?

THE STAKES

After Freiburg's defeat in Bochum yesterday, a draw here would be enough for Leverkusen to overtake them in third, while a win would see Die Werkself climb two points clear of the Black Forest side, although they would remain six points behind second-placed Borussia Dortmund. Leipzig, meanwhile, are currently eighth but they could go fifth if they take all three points.

WATCH: NKUNKU AND DIABY, HEAD-TO-HEAD

PSG academy graduates, Christopher Nkunku and Moussa Diaby have each developed into key players for Leipzig and Leverkusen respectively over the last couple of years. Who will have the edge today? We take a closer look at the French duo.

GOALS ON THE CARDS

This fixture has averaged 3.1 goals per game in the Bundesliga to date, and there has never been a 0-0 draw. Leipzig have found the net 18 times, Leverkusen 13.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

Leipzig have been quite the bogey team for Leverkusen since earning promotion to the Bundesliga five years ago. Of the 10 top-flight meetings to date, Die Roten Bullen have won five, including a 1-0 triumph at home last season, while Leverkusen have taken the spoils just once, in April 2018.

CAPTAIN KAMPL

Kevin Kampl wears the skipper's armband today for the first time since April 2019, when Leipzig won 2-1 away to Gladbach.

TEAM NEWS - LEVERKUSEN

Leverkusen boss Gerardo Seoane has made two changes to his side following the 3-2 UEFA Europa League triumph over Celtic on Thursday. Tapsoba comes in at centre-back in for Kossounou, who drops to the bench, while Schick returns from injury to make his first appearance since 24 October, with Paulinho making way.

TEAM NEWS - LEIPZIG

After swatting Club Brugge aside 5-0 in the Champions League during the week, Leipzig coach Jesse Marsch has opted not to change a winning team, keeping faith with the same 11 players that started that game. As such, goalkeeper Josep Martinez makes just his second Bundesliga appearance, while Brian Brobbey makes his first start in Germany's top flight. The only bad news for the home side is that they have lost both times this season when Marsch has named an unchanged line-up (losing 1-0 in both Mainz and Wolfsburg).
