BAUMGARTNER DOES IT AGAIN!

And in the space of five minutes, Hoffenheim have turned it around! Raum's cross into the middle is misjudged by the VfB defence and falls to Baumgartner dead centre, and he smashes it high above Müller into the back of the net.

HOFFENHEIM LEVEL!

A brilliant solo goal from Baumgartner as he drives down the right before cutting back inside onto his left and bending an effort around a couple of defenders into the far top corner.

The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals> xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals> goals).

DOUBLE CHANGE

Sebastian Hoeneß decides it's time for a different approach and sends on two fresh faces.

BEBOU!

Raum with yet another cross, this time not quite as deep. Bebou gets up unmarked and makes good contact, but can't direct his header on target. He's annoyed with himself there.

COMEBACK KINGS

No Bundesliga team has earned points from losing positions this season as many times as Hoffenheim (W5, D3).

BEEN A WHILE

Endo ends a run of 22 Bundesliga games without a goal. His last one came on the opening weekend when Stuttgart beat Fürth 5-1 to sit top. As it stands they're going to move up to 15th until at least Sunday.

CAPTAIN ENDO!

And Stuttgart take the lead straight from the corner as play restarts. Kalajdzic usually gets up above defenders but this time stoops at the front post to flick on a header to the far stick, where Endo has broken free and volleys home from close range.

GEIGER DOWN

And straight after that, Geiger hits the deck in the box. He looks to still be suffering the effort of the knock he took to the head in the first half.
54'

FÖRSTER!

Much better so far from Stuttgart as Förster is found in some space left of goal. He goes for the low drive across but it's deflected behind off Posch.

GOOD OMEN?

Both of Stuttgart's previous two games in 2022 that have been goalless after 45 minutes have seen them pick up a point (0-0 at Fürth on MD18 and 1-1 vs. Bochum last weekend).

THE BIG MAN

The tallest player in the Bundesliga is indeed on. It's Führich, who struck the post in the first half, who makes way.

HOFFENHEIM LEAD! OR DO THEY..?

Müller again does excellently to save a header from close range, this time off Rutter. Hübner then makes no mistake with this rebound and puts it away. But the celebrations don't last long as VAR radios in from Cologne to say Rutter was offside as the ball had come off Bebou's head.

BAUMGARTNER BLOCKED

Excellent quick play from Hoffenheim as they go from back to front. The final ball comes as so often from Raum towards the far post, where Baumgartner gets up but can only put his header against the back of his marker for a corner, which comes to nothing.
37'

BOUNCING IN THE AWAY END

We'll have to wait and find out exactly how many have made the relatively short trip from Stuttgart to Sinsheim but they're bouncing in the away end as Förster prepares to come on for Mangala.
36'

MANGALA DOWN

Not the first time tonight the Stuttgart midfielder has gone down. He calls for treatment this time, though, and play is stopped.
35'

POSCH DENIED

The ball comes out to the edge of the box and the defender latches onto it on the volley. Comfortable enough stop for Müller despite the body of players.
33'

BAUMGARTNER BOOKED

A tactical trip on the halfway line earns the Austrian a caution.
30'

BUSY ITO

This is the first time in the Bundesliga that Ito has started at left-back in a back four and he's had the most touches of anyone on the pitch so far (32).

MARMOUSH!

Ito's free-kick from wide on the left is only headed on by Bebou and into the path of Marmoush. The Egyptian chests it down and hits it quickly, but Baumann is equal to it in the TSG goal. But he's not happy at the defending.

HOFFENHEIM AND THE WOODWORK

It's the 16th time this season Hoffenheim have struck the frame of the goal. That's the most of any team in the Bundesliga.

WHAT A MISS X2!

How this game is still goalless is a mystery. Brilliant cross in from the right up the other end by Kramaric. Hübner is completely unmarked in the middle, four yards out dead centre and he plants his header straight at Müller. The ball is still loose, though, and Kaderabek is there to try and turn it home, but he smashes it off the crossbar from even closer! Müller then throws himself gratefully over the ball.

WHAT A MISS!

Should be 1-0 to Stuttgart, has to be 1-0 to Stuttgart. Tomas gets down the right and squares the ball across goal to Führich coming in at the far post. He's for the whole goal to aim at but somehow smashes his effort from a few yards out against the upright!

A busy opening 16 minutes for Geiger as he takes down Marmoush trying to run clear and picks up the first card of the game.

CLOSE FOR KRAMARIC

Cross from the right this time by Kaderabek. Kramaric gets there with his head but it takes a deflection off Ito and over.

GEIGER DOWN

Marmoush goes for a volley on the edge of the box but accidentally catches Geiger in the process. The Hoffenheim man is down for a good minute or two receiving treatment before the game can resume.

TOMAS IN BEHIND...

The new Stuttgart signing is in down the right, cuts inside Grillitsch and tries to find the bottom corner but drags his effort wide. And then the offside flag goes up.

RAUM DELIVERS

VfB boss Matarazzo spoke in his press conference yesterday about stopping David Raum's crosses and Hoffenheim getting onto balls at the far post. They half got it right early on as Raum did deliver but Baumgartner was just put off by Ito.

LOUD SUPPORT

NO TO WAR

The DFL condemns the Russian attack on Ukraine in the strongest possible terms. War in any form is unacceptable – and incompatible with the values of sport.

WATCH: STUTTGART 3-1 HOFFENHEIM

Things were very different when these sides first met this season in Stuttgart. VfB ran out 3-1 winners to move level on points with TSG – albeit in 11th and 12th place. But now Hoffenheim can go fourth (at least overnight) with victory of their own tonight. Stuttgart, meanwhile, have slipped all the way to 17th and need to win to move out of the automatic relegation zone – again, at least until Sunday when Augsburg host Dortmund.

WATCH: VFB ARRIVE IN SINSHEIM

STUTTGART TEAM NEWS

Pellegrino Matarazzo makes just the two changes, both enforced. Borna Sosa has a bruised knee, so Hiroki Ito will cover at left-back. And Silas has injured his shoulder, allowing Omar Marmoush to come back into the side after AFCON duty. Sasa Kalajdzic is on the bench and therefore we assume fit to play if called upon, although Matarazzo said yesterday that he’s nowhere near 100 per cent.

HOFFENHEIM TEAM NEWS

Sebastian Hoeneß makes three changes from the side that came from behind to win at Wolfsburg last weekend. Kevin Vogt is out with a groin strain, so Florian Grillitsch comes into the heart of the back three. Diadie Samassekou is replaced in central midfield by Dennis Geiger, while Pavel Kaderabek returns at right wing-back, freeing up Ihlas Bebou to play in a more advanced position, with Munas Dabbur dropping to the bench. Justin Che is once again among the subs and in line for his debut.
