Hamburg's promotion hopes hang in the balance but the Red Shorts are making a fight of it as we enter the final stage of this game. Will Hertha hold on?

TOUSART BOOKED

Tousart comes down hard on Schonlau's foot. That's an easy decision for the ref to make as the Hertha man goes into the book.

ALMOST VAGNOMAN

The ball suddenly lands at the feet of Josha Vagnoman right on front of goals but the Hamburg substitute's effort from close range is blocked out. A big chance has gone.

FERNANDES SAVES HSV

Jovetic bursts away and has time to contemplate a one-v-one with Heuer Fernandes. Too much time? Perhaps. The Hamburg goalkeeper makes the save when Jovetic had the tie at his feet.

NO AWAY GOALS RULE

Lest we forget, the away goals rule no longer counts and so were HSV to score, we would be heading for extra time.

MUHEIM TESTER

Muheim tries a curling left-footer from distance but he'll have to do better than that to beat Christensen.

SCENES !

Would. You. Believe. It? Just as Reis did in the first leg, so Plattenhardt has done in the second. The Hertha man placed the ball down for a free kick on the right and his cross slowly started to morph into a goal-bound shot, which beat Heuer Fernandes. Incredible. Hertha lead on aggregate.

HAMBURG ALIVE

Again Hamburg come, and it's Heyer this time with a low drive that Hertha's 'keeper needs to get down to quickly in order to block. Heyer later goes down in the Berlin box under pressure but the ref is having none of that and play continues.

JOVETIC YELLOW

BOYATA A HEAD ABOVE

Hertha still lead from Dedryck Boyata's first goal of the season. All five of Boyata's previous Bundesliga goals were headers, just like his opener today.

DEAD-BALL SPECIALISTS

HSV would have been warned about Hertha's threat from set-pieces. Magath's men scored two of their last four Bundesliga goals from corners. The other two came from the penalty spot. A total of seven goals with Magath at the Hertha helm came from set pieces.

MAGATH'S MIXED EMOTIONS

What a night this is set to be for Felix Magath. Every bit a HSV legend having won three Bundesliga titles, a European Cup and a Cup Winners' Cup during his playing days with Der Dino, the 68-year-old is in the Hertha dugout tonight hoping to keep the Berliners in the Bundesliga at the expense of his former team. "There's something in the job I have to do here which suits me. I want to help Hertha and keep the club in the league," Magath said recently.

HAMBURG FOCUSED

The tension is rising, but HSV coach Tim Walter looks focused out there as we edge towards kick-off. Here's what the home tactician had to say in the build-up to this one: "The boys are bursting with energy, courage, conviction and anticipation. It's all about us and our game, because we want to make ourselves, our fans and the whole city happy."

FIRST-LEG MEMORIES

With both teams due out on the pitch for their respective warm-ups, what better time to take a look back at how the first-leg was won.

HERTHA'S LUCKY CHARM?

Speaking of Der Prince, could Boateng prove the difference in this play-off second leg for Hertha? With him on the pitch, Hertha won six of their 18 Bundesliga games this season. Without the 35-year-old, the capital club triumphed in a mere three in 16.

TEAM NEWS

Hamburg coach, Tim Walter, goes with the same line-up to that which began the first-leg triumph in the German capital. Hertha's Kevin-Prince Boateng, meanwhile, is in his side's starting XI having remained on the bench in the first leg. Oliver Christensen continues in goal for Felix Magath's team, with Marcel Lotka out with concussion. Stevan Jovetic and Ishak Belfodil will look to supply the Old Lady's goal threat.

HERTHA SUBS

Körber, Bjorkan, Stark, Mittelstädt, Eitschberger, Darida, Richter, Maolida, Wollschläger.

HERTHA STARTING XI

Christensen – Pekarik, Boyata (c), Kempf, Plattenhardt – Tousart, Ascacibar – Serdar, Boateng – Belfodil, Jovetic.

HSV SUBS

Mickel, Gyamerah, Vagnoman, David, Kinsombi, Chakvetadze, Alidou, Kaufmann, Wintzheimer.

HSV STARTING XI

Heuer Fernandes – Heyer, Vuskovic, Schonlau (c), Muheim – Reis, Meffert, Rohr – Jatta, Glatzel, Kittel.

HA HO HE ?

Will we be hearing the famous Hertha chant from the visiting fans following tonight's final whistle? A good omen for Die Alte Dame is that they have won eight of the teams' previous 10 meetings in the Bundesliga.

STATE OF PLAY

Ok, so, let's remind ourselves that it was Ludovit Reis who scored for HSV in the first leg at the Olympiastadion on Thursday. But if you think tonight's hosts are feeling pleased with themselves having edged out Hertha in the capital, here's midfielder Jonas Meffert to set you straight: “You don’t sit in the changing room celebrating at half-time”. Indeed.

WELCOME ALONG !

Willkommen one and all to this evening's Bundesliga relegation/promotion play-off between two giants of German football. This tie is so finely balanced, with hosts Hamburg holding a slender 1-0 lead over Hertha Berlin, that you won't want to miss a moment. So stay right where you are ...
