Cologne in power-saving mode
The second Cologne brace scorer, Skhiri, is taken off. He was hobbling on his ankle a little, and with a trip to Bayern approaching on Tuesday, you suspect the hosts will be happy to preserve some strength in the final phases.

A little bit of quiet?
Unsurprisingly, the second half hasn't quite matched the insane tempo of the first thus far. Both sides have knocked the ball around a bit without any chances in this period yet.

Bremen - the story so far
Bremen are four points better off than Cologne, in ninth, and are closer to the top four (six points) than the bottom three (seven). Only four teams have scored more than their 25 goals, while only Bayern Munich and Eintracht Frankfurt matches have produced a greater number of goals than Werder’s 52 in 15. They've also established themselves as the late-goal experts, with 11 after the 76th minute (accounting for 44 per cent of their total) and five beyond the 90th – both the most of any team in the division.
Cologne - the story so far
The Billy Goats begin the new year in 13th place. They're winless in five Bundesliga matches, losing four of them, but no longer have midweek European football to factor into the equation after going out of the UEFA Europa Conference League at the group stage.
Welcome!
With the Bundesliga action back in full flow, attentions turn to the first Saturday late fixture of 2023. Cologne have blown hot and cold so far this season, while Werder Bremen have taken to life back in the big time like a duck to water. Stay tuned to find out how this one shakes out...
