Full-time: Frankfurt 3-0 Mainz

Frankfurt keep their hopes of securing European football via the league alive with a convincing 3-0 win over Mainz. Daichi Kamada's 18th-minute penalty got the ball rolling, before a stunning Aurelio Buta effort put Die Adler two up at the break. Randal Kolo Muani then struck shortly before the hour mark to complete the scoring and keep Oliver Glasner's side in European contention. Mainz, meanwhile, drop below today's victors, with their own continental hopes taking a significant blow.

Frankfurt: personnel

Glasner has no fresh injury concerns, but Rafael Borre will miss the tie due to suspension. Jesper Lindstrom, who made his first start after injury in Hoffenheim, carries plenty of hopes that he can help to inspire an upturn in form. The Frankfurt coach has not settled on a favoured central midfield pairing - with Kamada, Sow, Rode and Dina Ebimbe all options.

Frankfurt: form

A run of ten Bundesliga matches without a win led to the announcement that Oliver Glasner is to leave Frankfurt at the end of the season. The club are hoping that the Eagles can press on again with that matter settled and the DFB Cup final against Leipzig approaching in early June.

Mainz: personnel

The 05ers have a pair of central midfielders suspended in Barreiro and Kohr. Anton Stach missed the 2-3 defeat to Schalke with an infection, but should return this weekend to boost Mainz with his steel in the middle of the pitch. Bo Svensson brought 18-year-old striker Nelson Weiper on at half-time against Schalke and switched to a 4-4-2 with a midfield diamond. Weiper could therefore feature again with Ajorque at the tip of the diamond if the Mainz coach decides to stick with that set-up.

Mainz: form

Mainz could do no wrong this spring, surging up the table with an incredible ten-match unbeaten run that culminated in a 3-1 win over Bayern. Two defeats in a row to Wolfsburg and Schalke represent a bit of a blip that they will be eager to put right in Frankfurt.

Frankfurt: probable XI

Trapp - Toure, Hasebe, Ndicka - Buta, Kamada, Sow (c), Lenz - Lindstrom, Götze - Kolo Muani

Frankfurt: out

Borre (suspended), Jakic (calf), Max (thigh), Smolcic (knee)

Mainz: probable XI

Zentner (c) - Hanche-Olsen, Bell, Caci - Da Costa, Stach, Fernandes, Martin - Onisiwo, Lee - Ajorque

Mainz: out

Barreiro (suspended), Burkardt (knee), Kohr (suspended), Leitsch (match fitness), Widmer (ankle).

Last-gasp defeat

Mainz surely thought they had secured a point in a battling encounter with Schalke last Friday - until the visitors got a penalty deep into stoppage time.

Frankfurt feeling the workload

Of all the Bundesliga sides, only Bayern Munich have played more matches than Eintracht Frankfurt this season. Their 45 matches are 11 more than what Mainz have contested, with Frankfurt facing four more (with the cup final v Leipzig also to come).

Kamada can hit a free-kick too

Daichi Kamada is not far behind Mainz's Aaron Martin - the Japanese Frankfurt player has scored twice from direct free-kicks this season, with both strikes in the opening seven matchdays.

Creative King Kolo Muani

With the season approaching its end, Frankfurt's Randal Kolo Muani has more direct goal involvements than any other player in the Bundesliga - 23 (13 goals and 10 assists).

Hard-running hustlers

Only two Bundesliga sides have recorded greater average distances run per match this season than Mainz's 117.3 km per match.

Deadly from dead balls

Martin's exploits have contributed to Mainz's strong overall set-piece record. Only Freiburg have scored more goals than their 15 from dead balls this season.

Martin the set-piece martian

Mainz's Aaron Martin scored his third direct free-kick of the season in their 2-3 defeat to Schalke last Friday - more than any other Bundesliga player. Not since 2016/17 has a Bundesliga player scored more direct free-kicks in a single season (Markus Suttner of Ingolstadt).

Battle for Europe

The two sides go into the game with two points separating eight-placed Mainz and ninth-placed Frankfurt. A win would be really important for either side if they are to keep their ambitions of finishing the season in a European qualifying spot.
